You are going to solo every +4/8 Maria mission including the newer praetorian ones on your blaster without any team support? We are talking about builds and survivability, not battlefield awareness, that can't be slotted in mids.
-
So now all that's left to query is... Could you spare some Grey Poupon?
-
Same here, so what are we arguing about? lol
-
I know I am right, and it WILL mitigate the alpha if nothing else, what happens after that is up to the user and skill takes over. What would you rather have all the alphas hitting you, half or less, or close to none? To me close to none is invaluable and it's what mine plays like. To each their own.
-
You kinda still are missing the point because 45 will always be > 35 or none. Even if it gets your through 2 waves or 1 thats 1 more than you would have had before. So get both like im suggesting, its not like its hard to accomplish that. You arent getting through groups in Tin mage +4/8 with no defense and only capped res without team support. Sorry not buying that if thats what you are saying. +4/8 with no team support is what the metric for discussion has been so I apoligize if that isnt what you are talking about. It goes a long way in my experience to bolster your resistance mitigation. Any bit that misses you completely is less damage, debuffs, unresistable damage, toxic damage that could potentially hurt a bit.
-
Missing the point. Again all I'm saying is on Task forces like Tin Mage, and other heavy -def incarnate content +4/8 when I switched to 42% from 35% melee defense on ALL my Elec armor characters i went from having to watch my health bar to never worrying about it. My ONLY point is I'm sure I can survive longer than if I had 35% because I've seen me do it. Argue all you want to like the other guy that is missing my point too, the one with 35%, I know from actual in game experience that the extra defense helped my build tremendously against lots of super hard high level incarnate content. I'm not saying ddr isn't great. I'm not saying cascading defense failure doesn't exist. I'm not saying anyone is wrong for not wanting soft capped defense. 45%>35% observational experience. That's all I'm saying guys.
-
Still unless the debuff is auto hit, that soft cap defense is going to miss both defense debuffs and resistance debuffs indiscriminately gaining several magnitudes of more durability than not being at the soft cap. I play all those tough enemies you talked about and I noticed the difference immediately how much more durable I was after I went to 42 % which is as high as I could get it without too much sacrifices. Resistance debuffs are nasty as well and resistance does nothing to stop them eventually, but defense will. They will hardly ever hit you at that point. Thats game play experiences no numbers, actual in game observation against all damage types and debuggers. You name it ive done it.
-
I agree with every single bit of that. I build tanks and brutes to tank. If I can't cap most resistances and add a healthy 40+ defense on the brute I opt to build it as a tank instead and focus on more attacks and other powers and set bonuses. Survivability more so than damage is what I'm looking for at the end result. Basically if I can survive the fire +4/8 and sl +4/8 ae missions indefinitely - while also tanking the new maria Arc +4/8 solo, there's not much I can't do on a team for instance apex or tin mage tfs or even incarnate trials. If it's toxic or negative nrg based I lean a little on the team to help mitigate those particular types.
-
Yeah it doesnt matter what you are fighting, if you can get to 45 anyway you slice it its better than 35 and by a good margin. Thats all I'm saying, I have three /elec builds, they are awesome, they all have 42% at it is infinitely better than when I was at 35% before I pushed the envelope just a bit further for the added defense. I regularly play incarnate and I know what you are saying about debuff resistance, but you still dodge a lot on the alpha and even that is noticeably better than being at just 35%. Why not get it if it's out there and it don't sacrifice much? That's my point, and the only one im making. Yes with a SR build you should get ageless IMO, but on one like Elec that open salvo gets mitigated more than it would have than just 35% by then you are in control and your team should be well on the way to dispatching the crowd.
-
At 35% you are getting hit a lot more than I am at 42% because I just changed from a 35% build to the 42% there hasn't been much that touches me since then. So to say it isn't as important or valuable to have that is flat incorrect. I see what the difference is every time I play the 3 /Elec characters I have set up that way. And I didnt sacrifice much resistance or anything for that matter to get it either.
-
Well if you want real game experience, I can demonstrate to you in game how much more survivable soft cap vs 35% is. No nitpicking necessary, that gap seems like it's infinitely better because I rarely have to pop inspirations at all and I'm only at 42% not even at the soft cap.
-
Sure it does unless it's an autohit. Softcapped defense no matter how you slice it is infinitely more durable than one sitting on 35%. It's so noticeable I sacrifice damage capability on the brute to get as close to that soft cap as I can. It also allows you to choose something other than melee hybrid on tanks because it isn't as necessary. You have to have that on a brute in some situations.

This right here. This is where it's at.

There are yet still better inexpensive alternatives to unstoppable that does all the above without the crash.

Addressing the Tanker Brute Connundrum.
Infinitum replied to Profit's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
All of that is pretty darn accurate. Well except em not being a boss killer. Mine is very good at that, and it should be because thats the only reason I rolled it out-its tricky but doable, but also with the hope they may buff the set at some point. -
Risk vs reward is way off on unstoppable vs what you can do with set bonuses even with status protection. Most of the good resist sets come with that by default along with the defense/resist bonus and it layers for you accomplishing what you are looking for, vs a t9 insta death click when it drops. I had your stance on unstoppable at one point also until I gave it a shot without it and bolstered set bonuses and was pleasantly surprised.

I would do this just for thematic effect, 2 characters WarNG and N8Dogg Oh yeah. Let's do this. lol

Addressing the Tanker Brute Connundrum.
Infinitum replied to Profit's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah I'm not offended and I get it, I understand what they are asking for, but there is more useful data out there, and if this is about changing ATs which this thread is about that, pylon data tests are not relatable to actual gameplay. I say that because pylon data tests are one of the things that got EM nerfed. So I particularly hate them because that alone relegated EM to a boss/av killer and parlor trick one shot machine for minion and lieutenants. -

Pylon data is useless information because there isnt swarms of Rikti pylons attacking you everywhere. It was useless then and its useless now. It makes things that arent overpowered seem more overpowered than they are. For instance, my invul/ss tank has higher dps than my fire tank, but the fire tank clears mobs was way faster. My Em/elec brute takes out bosses way faster than anything else I have but its dreadfully slow at clearing mobs. Raw dps numbers as a whole are useless unless you have a real world scenario to compare them with. I realize what they were asking for, but there is a better way to get data thats more useful out there. Look at it this way, if you saw someone sending an sos with Morse code over a telegraph, wouldn't they appreciate someone introducing a smart phone to them so the emergency can get called in faster. Thats what I was attempting, not deflecting. -

Not deflecting, but in reality targets move, multiple targets move a lot until you put them down. I did the pylon tests back on live and they give you good numbers but don't really give you any real world performance data. Like how fast a given AT can clear a mob. On paper it should be cut and dry but in reality things may not always fall that way. Once you one shot a few minions or aoe most of the mob to death they don't attack back. Like it happens in game. We didn't have AE back when we first did pylon tests but we also used the battle maiden map. -

A better comparison with actual run of the mill gameplay would be to test in one of the S/L or fire AE farms. Pylons can give you accurate DPS readings but things in game are rarely that static. -
Sadly I quit shortly after the EM nerf, hindsight I wouldnt have because when I returned the game was sunsetted a month later, and had so many unfinished things I wanted to do on here. The EM nerf still sucks but there are ways to work around it, but the game was so grindy back then it was nearly impossible to test things out like you can now. I had all my eggs in one basket and they cut the handle off the basket. Things are very fun right now, there is even content that is challenging for fully IOd characters, and if you dont believe me go try to fight the jade spider.

Regarding all the above: they would all be neat, but honestly too much work to be so similar to ATs we already have. Also, how many topics requesting unwarranted buffs/nerfs for tanks, scrappers, brutes, and even sentinels would this create? because there are already at least three I can think of now regarding ATs we already have? Wouldn't be opposed to any of them though.

We added 1 member that saw this post, that's mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned because he is already a valued and active member of our Group. We are here for any others that would like to join our group, or try it out. Goal is to add enough people to have nightly multiple teams of any content, any AT, any type or powersets - we do not discriminate. We will be providing any assistance in leveling with the ultimate goal to run a weekly all SG incarnate Trial. So again, if you are having trouble finding teams, and feel left out, give us a shot. We won't let you down.
