This sounds awesome actually!

The current per-user storage limit is something we want to re-evaluate in the future after we've moved things like forum attachments out of the current server and onto one of our storage servers. This functionality is available in the forum software, we just haven't gotten around to implementing it yet.

Conflicting Password Requirements
Cipher replied to Syovere's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
The 'good password' tooltip comes from the base password control in the forum software and is meant to be a guideline for the user to create strong passwords. The actual limit created by the game client is a max of 15 characters though. -
Hello everyone, and Happy Homecoming Anniversary! Today marks two years since Homecoming started and it still amazes me how active and supportive the community is after all this time. We cannot thank you all enough for your continued support, we just hope that you’re enjoying the game and the updates that we put out. Now, as usual, a quick reminder that there are more ways to support Homecoming than just through donations. For a general overview of the different ways you can help Homecoming, check out this thread. We’re always in need of more people to help test upcoming updates on our public beta server; the bug reports and feedback that we receive from testers helps us immensely. For more information on how to get started on the beta server, check out our Read This to Get Started thread and the rest of the Beta Forums. Additionally, if you have Discord Nitro then please consider using a Nitro server boost on our public Discord server. Maintaining over 30 Nitro boosts gives all of our members new and enhanced features on the server including additional emojis, a higher upload limit, better voice chat quality, and our vanity URL. Click here to read more about Server Boosting. We’re currently at 37 boosts and will lose our Level 3 perks if we drop below 30 for more than a few days. We greatly appreciate everyone who has put their Nitro boosts towards our Discord server! April 2021 Breakdown Last month we accepted $6,065.63 in donations, $26.07 over our target for the month. As always, the remainder is put towards the next month’s expenses. Here is the breakdown of what March’s funds went towards: $4,645.44 for our hardware infrastructure from OVH + $3.00 for additional failover IP addresses $1,224.72 to pay the latest invoice from our primary legal counsel $121.57 for our Google G-Suite services $25.00 for our Air instance from Paperspace $10.00 for our Atlassian Jira (Cloud) service $9.73 for security / administration software $8.56 for the AWS EC2 instance serving our email May 2021 We have two 2-year domain renewals coming up in early May at a cost of $20.00 per domain. Otherwise, there are no additional charges for the month. The donation target for May 2021 is $4,832.20. Here is a breakdown of how the funds are allocated: $4,645.44 for our hardware infrastructure from OVH $121.57 for our Google G-Suite services $40.00 for domain renewals $25.00 for our Air instance from Paperspace $10.00 for our Atlassian Jira (Cloud) service $9.73 for security / administration software $8.56 for the AWS EC2 instance serving our email Our donation system will be open as of the time of this post with a donation target of $4,832.20 and will automatically close once that target is met. Patch Notes for Forum Changes?
Cipher replied to VileTerror's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
You have somehow switched off of the default theme we use. You can change your theme back using the Theme dropdown at the very bottom of the page. -
Have the Avatars changed in parameters? (Yes)
Cipher replied to Solarverse's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
We performed a major version upgrade of our forum software during the maintenance earlier today which included a redesign of the front-end user interface. Many visual and functional aspects of the forums have changed as a result. We could probably increase avatar dimensions slightly, though I probably wouldn't want to go too much larger as they can be quite distracting. Edit: I've increased the size from 75px to 90px for now. -
[Resolved] Sqaures in place of buttons?
Cipher replied to Icanav's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
These icons are a part of FontAwesome. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the browser that you are using so it will be difficult to extend support for it. If this is an issue that has been happening since before the most recent update, then your browser may not have support for unicode fonts enabled for some reason. As a place to start, however, I would recommend clearing your browser cache for the forums. A bit of research indicates that you can use Ctrl + Shift + Delete to access a menu which should allow you to clear your cache. Please let me know if this resolves the problem. -
Fixed. Thank you for the report!

Hello everyone! We will be closing Homecoming support for all non-urgent requests from December 22nd to December 29th as we want to ensure that our awesome team of volunteers can feel free to take a much needed break over the holidays and spend time with their family and loved ones. During this time, we urge players to seek help from the community or sources such as our official forums and Discord server for minor issues rather than submitting a support request via the website or the /petition command. For time sensitive requests, we still suggest submitting a support request with the word urgent in the title; we will be responding to these as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience and understanding and wish you all a happy and safe Holiday! Common problems and quick solutions: I cannot log into the game after creating an account Forum accounts and game accounts are separate. Please ensure that you have created a game account via the Account Center. If you have created a game account, then we recommend that you try changing your game account password to something else and trying again. If this does not resolve your issue then please submit a support request. A Task Force mission is stuck or looping This is a known issue which we are working on resolving. We recommend having everyone on the team log out at once (every player must be offline for a few seconds) then logging back in and trying the mission again. If this does not work, then you may need to fully disband and recreate the team, then restart the Task Force. A praetorian contact is missing or will not speak to me Praetoria features numerous branching storylines which can alter the state of other contacts and story lines. Sometimes, progressing in one storyline will make progressing in another storyline impossible. In these cases, you may need to abandon the orphaned missions and continue with any other storylines which are now available to you. A mission is stuck and will not complete Most of the time when we get these reports, there is an objective remaining on the mission map. If you are unable to find any enemies or glowies on the map after running around then you may try abandoning or automatically completing the mission via the assigning contact. Please note that you are limited to one automatic completion per day. You can also reset the mission by selecting a new one from your mission window and then restarting the original mission. An enemy is stuck in a wall or other piece of geometry Enemies that are stuck in geometry will often break free after a few moments. If the enemy remains stuck in the wall after a minute or two and cannot be damaged via AoE attacks then we recommend resetting the mission. I cannot log into the official Homecoming launcher We are currently working on addressing this problem. In the meantime, we recommend just ignoring the launcher’s login feature. I would like to have my Global handle changed Please submit a support request and we will address it after the Holiday. I purchased [BLANK] from the Auction House, but it never appeared in my inventory after claiming it. Check your recipes! Oftentimes what you may think was an enhancement purchase was really just a recipe. I transferred my Character and no longer have Long Range Teleport. This is a known issue, please submit a /petition and someone from our GM team will be in touch after the Holiday. Claimed Super Packs/Winter Packs but didn’t receive rewards. Due to the high volume of packs being purchased and claimed, this can sometimes happen. You may need to zone or log off for a few minutes to “resync” and obtain your items. You can find them in the “Character Items” tab of your email window. If they still do not appear, you may have to wait until the weekly Tuesday server refresh and check again. A player is harassing myself or other players You can use the /ignore command to block any player from being able to contact you. Please do this until a GM can investigate further. For non-urgent issues, please submit a support request and we will address it after the Holiday. If there is an emergent situation affecting players or spamming a global channel, please submit a support request with the word urgent in the title and/or contact @Cipher (Cipher#0002) or a Lead Game Master via Discord.

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a safe and happy holiday season so far. This will be our last donation window for this year and covers us through January 30th. We moved this donation window from December 26th to today as the 26th is Boxing Day and falls in the middle of the later December holidays. Other Ways to Help Homecoming Continuing the format from our last finances post, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that there are more ways to support Homecoming than just through donations. For a general overview of the different ways you can help Homecoming, check out this thread. Specifically, we are currently looking for a web designer to help out with a new website we’re working on. We’re specifically looking for someone with more experience on the design side of web design and development, but knowledge and experience with HTML5, CSS3, and Sass would definitely help. For more information, see this thread. Additionally, we’re always in need of more people to help test upcoming updates on our public beta server; the bug reports and feedback that we receive from testers helps us immensely. For more information on how to get started on the beta server, check out our Read This to Get Started thread and the rest of the Beta Forums. And finally, if you have Discord Nitro then please consider using a Nitro server boost on our public Discord server. Maintaining over 30 Nitro boosts gives all of our members new and enhanced features on the server including additional emojis, a higher upload limit, better voice chat quality, and our vanity URL. Click here to read more about Server Boosting. Now, onto the final financial breakdown for this year. December 2020 Breakdown Last month we accepted $4,700.91 in donations, $109.46 over our target for the month. We used the overrun from the December donation window to go ahead and pay most of the 6-month renewal on our UPS mailbox. The remainder of this cost will be included in the January 2021 donation window. Here is the breakdown of what December’s funds went towards: $4,645.44 to OVH for our hosting $142.00 for the 6-month renewal on our UPS mailbox $121.26 for our Google G-Suite Business account $25.00 for the Paperspace Air instance $9.73 for the security / administration software $8.00 for our AWS EC2 instance which is serving our mail through Amazon SES January 2021 The donation target for January 2021 is $4,848.68. Captcha to Access Forum?
Cipher replied to CrudeVileTerror's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
The browser challenges that have been happening over the last 8 hours are temporary and were enabled in part of a series of steps we took to mitigate several active attacks against our services, with the latest targeting the forums. We ask and thank you for your patience and understanding as we take these necessary steps to ensure that our services remain online and stable. Thanks -
Click here to go to the main thread Hello everyone! We’re currently working on a new website and are on the lookout for some help to make it as awesome as it can be! Specifically, we're looking to reduce our reliance on the forums for core services such as account creation and management. This new site will also have other features you may expect though, including a newsfeed, knowledge base, and access to support and links to our various platforms (the forums, Discord, etc.). Specifically, we're looking for volunteers that have experience writing modern HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to create responsive mobile-friendly websites to help design and build the front-end of the website. Other requirements and nice-to-haves can be found in the main thread over in the Developer's Corner forum. This thread may be used for discussion and questions about the role, but please post any applications over in the main thread. Thanks!

Rest in Peace GM Cyclone / Robotech_Master
Cipher replied to Jimmy's topic in Fallen but not Forgotten
Chris "Robotech Master" Meadows was a well-respected individual in so many communities, not the least of which was our own. Many players in our community knew of him as Robotech Master through his many top-notch guides and all of the help he has provided people here on the forums, on our Discord server, and back in live (if you didn't know, he was a very well-known player and guide author in live as well). To our team, he was also known as GM Cyclone and he was a valued member who will be greatly missed. Cyclone was always so proactive when it came to helping players, spending many nights roaming the city and finding ways to make the community a better place. He must have reset various broken events (especially Paladin!) hundreds of times. He cared so much about this community and really shined when he was brought onto the team; it's hard for me to imagine not having him around anymore. The world is truly a worse place without you, friend. May you rest in peace and forever be remembered through the great positive impact you had on this world, both real and virtual. I'll miss you.- 85 replies

Hey all, It’s been a while since we last did a deep dive into Homecoming’s finances, and with our operating costs settling into a fairly stable amount each month again, I thought it would be a good time to go over our monthly invoices to show exactly where the money for each service is going. Our latest invoices for each server are included at the bottom of each section. If you would like to see the invoices and skip the explanations, an album containing all of them is available here. OVH (Main Infrastructure) Total Monthly Cost: $4,645.44 Most of our hardware infrastructure is rented from OVH. As of the time of this post, we are currently renting the following on a monthly basis: 16 dedicated servers 4 SQL server licenses 7 failover IP address blocks Below is a detailed breakdown of the various servers, their purpose / role, and their cost. A full copy of our latest invoice from OVH with sensitive information redacted has been provided below as well. All of our servers are from OVH’s Advance Dedicated Server lineup. Please note that their Advanced server offerings are occasionally updated, and some of the specific configurations that we are currently using are no longer available. Every server we rent has a 1Gbps vRack upgrade at a cost of $23.00 per month, per server. This is an important upgrade that allows all of our servers to communicate over a VLAN with a full gigabit of bandwidth, which is necessary because of the amount of traffic that goes between our servers. Our hardware infrastructure might seem expensive compared to some other setups, but this is largely because we’re supporting many more concurrent users and mapservers (missions, AE maps, zones, etc.), and each of our services are built with redundancy and stability as a core factor. This means that we generally have warm spares for each core part of our infrastructure that we are ready to migrate to with very short notice in the event of an outage or other issue. See also: this amazing post by Telephone back in May. Map Hosts Total Monthly Cost: $2,484.93 Hosts (7): HC-MS-NA1, HC-MS-NA2, HC-MS-NA3, HC-MS-NA4, HC-MS-NA5, HC-MS-NA6, HC-MS-EU1 Our shared mapserver pool consists of 7 Advance-5 servers (6 servers in NA and one in EU). These host all the maps (every zone, mission, and AE map) running in the game. Each server costs $354.99 per month and has two Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs (24c/48t total @ 2.3GHz), and 96GB of memory. Database & Storage Servers Total Monthly Cost: $724.96 Hosts (4): HC-CentralDB0, HC-CentralDB1, HC-CentralDB2, HC-CentralDBEU We currently run 4 SQL Server 2017 database servers in a high-availability configuration (3 hot, 1 warm spare for redundancy). All of these servers run pretty high on their memory usage (typically at anywhere from 85-95% physical memory usage from the SQL servers). HC-CentralDB0 is an Advance-3 with a single Xeon D-2141I CPU, 64GB of memory, and 2 2TB SSDs at a cost of $213.99 per month. This server acts as a warm spare for each of the three other database servers in addition to providing read-only access to the data from each shard for various parts of our tooling and backend services. HC-CentralDB1 is an Advance-3 with a single Xeon D-2141I CPU and 64GB of memory at a cost of $160.99 per month. This server hosts the databases for the CoH global services (Auction House, Chat, Account, AE, etc.) in addition to the databases for Torchbearer and Indomitable. "What Would You Do?" Theoretical Bug Found
Cipher replied to FoulVileTerror's topic in General Discussion
Often times in CoH, and other games for that matter, bugs will present themselves in a way that seems fun or harmless ("hey look at this cool thing I figured out I can do; it doesn't seem to be affecting anything else!"). The reality to many of these bugs/reports is often a bit worse though, as many times what you're seeing is just the tip of a more deeply-rooted issue which could be affecting anything from performance and stability to a multitude of other systems. You would be surprised to see some of the things that we've found that seemed okay but were actually causing quite significant problems elsewhere. Informing us of the bug allows us the opportunity to investigate and hopefully fix the issue, ensuring that it's not going to become more of a problem down the road when other things are changed or implemented. If one result of the bug was something that the community has been wanting as a feature, then we should definitely look into making it so, just without being the result of an erroneous piece of code or data. That said, please do report any bugs that you find to us! It really does help us out tremendously in keeping the game stable. The Bug Hunter badge is even up for grabs (in some situations, depending on the bug) for players who help us identify these things! -

Hello everyone! It’s the last Saturday of the month, and that means it’s time to go over our finances for the past and upcoming month. If you haven’t already, check out the State of the Project post we made on August 12th for a peek at some updates we’ll be making in the near future. August 2020 Breakdown Last month we accepted $4,705.07 in donations, $202.20 over our target for the month. This overrun will be put towards the expenses for September. As mentioned last month, OVH has consolidated all of the new servers added in July into our invoice that charges on the first of each month. After a billing change to failover IPs, our monthly invoice was reduced by additional $45.00 per month, bringing our new total for OVH to $4,645.44 per month. We purchased some additional domains in August related to this news post which we will be putting into use in the near future. The total cost for the domains was $87.00, all of which was covered by overrun from the donation window. Overall, here is the breakdown of what August’s funds went towards: $4,645.44 to OVH for our hosting $121.02 for our Google G-Suite Business account $87.00 for domain purchases (NAME-CHEAP.com) $30.00 for our 1&1 IONOS domain & outbound email service $25.00 for the Paperspace Air instance $10.00 for our Atlassian Jira Cloud instance (10-user) $9.73 for the security / administration software September 2020 One of our domains is due for renewal early in September at a cost of $10.00. This will appear as an additional charge under 1&1 IONOS on our next invoice. As previously mentioned, our monthly invoice from OVH has been reduced by an additional $45.00 per month, bringing the new total down to $4,645.44. We do not have any other updates to our finances this month and we still have $163.83 in overrun from August which will be put towards reducing our donation target for September. The donation target for September 2020 is $4,687.36. Here is a breakdown of how the funds are allocated: $4,645.44 for our hardware infrastructure from OVH $121.02 for our Google G-Suite services $30.00 for outbound email and domain services from 1&1 IONOS We will be completing our migration from IONOS to AWS SES for outbound email this month. Once this migration is completed, this charge will be removed from our monthly expenses. $25.00 for our Air instance from Paperspace $10.00 for our domain renewal $10.00 for our Atlassian Jira (Cloud) service $9.73 for security / administration software The donation target has been met and donations are now closed. Make "My Clubs" a Section of the Forums Home Page.
Cipher replied to Bopper's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
You should now have a list of the clubs you are currently in along the right sidebar when viewing the forum index. Allowing users to re-order the forum categories themselves is not something that Invision supports and unfortunately adding our own support for this would require quite a bit of development time and testing.
