This would also be incredibly cool. I know there are (or used to be) underwater areas in the game (I think in Cim, maybe?), but I haven't seen them. I did run into a neat underwater area running the Midnighter's arc. In the mission where you rescue that aggro-crazy Lady Jane there is a bridge over some water, and if you jump in, you're underwater and can swim under the bridge. It's pretty amazing fun! I'd love to have something swimmy to "arrest" under there. Heh.

I'm so excited to hear how this goes! It sounds like you are having fun, and that's the main thing!. I'm pretty sure no one suggested ice/nature because of its inherent weaknesses (it wouldn't be my choice), but I am eager to hear about your future endeavors. Happily, your fire/elec brute can solo most content, including TFs, so I expect your duo to have wonderful success!

Give Null the Gull option for minimal FX for Ice Shields
Tahliah replied to Solarverse's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think this is the issue. Many players don't realize they can choose min fx for their shields. Fwiw, I always go min fx on shields so other players' costumes aren't obscured, but having a Null option makes sense since so many people simply don't know they can fix this issue themselves. -
Aw, throw caution to the winds (as it were), @Allotrion! No one on a plant troll (and dom) team is going to care about KB; unleash your full fury! :D

Our seventh plant troll/dom team night was another raging success and seriously super good fun. We started out with about five or six planters, but the number quickly ballooned (yay!), and we split up again into the higher level toons with @krj12on Neverglade, lvl 50, heading that up. The 30s and 40s took off for some ITF fun and wreckage, picking up some fillers for their team. The rest of us stayed in Striga and finished up there. We quickly filled to eight and even had someone waiting (since one team was full and the other in an ITF). Luckily, the person waiting was happy to hang and get in when we had an opening. In the meantime, we all had fun chatting together in the sg and Parks and Wreck chat. We had a couple of amazing new planters join us, including @Allotrionon Celestial Seed. In all, we had 13 planters and one very special guest of one of our crew join us for last night's plant adventures. We finished up Striga and have Hess unlocked, though we didn't pause to do his TF. Instead, we headed over to Croatoa and got a good start on Gordon Bowers' arc. We had an amazing fun time melting through those missions and enjoying the planty goodness. Here we all are making short work of some apparitions and witches who thought we had met our match in them. They were so wrong. And were quickly dispatched. As you can see, the vines and creepers and auras and de/buffs were flying! While we didn't pose for an "official" team photo last night, our amazing sg leader Irresponsible Creeper took some action shots, including the one above. Here's another of the wreckage as we move through: It's difficult to explain the awesome power and absolute joy and fun in an all-plant troll/dom team. It's unlike any team I've ever experienced because the fundamentals are thrown out the window. Who needs a tank/brute when you have a couple of amazing doms in Spring Fury and Haze? Who needs a healer when you have Termite and his magical /nature abilities and Celestial Seed's stormy goodness? Who needs a defender when you have Creeper's and Raisin's and Cyber's and Greenhous' and Similac's awesomeness? With a few snaps of SB and ID from Power Plant., the team was powered up and ready to wreck anything that got in its way. Every single player contributes (including those I may not have mentioned here), and it's pure awesomeness. If you would like to join our all plant troll (and dom) team, don't be shy! We welcome new members with open stems and you will soon feel quite at home with our amazing crew. We run on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Excelsior, and the easiest way to join us is to join our Parks and Wreck chat channel and let anyone who is there know you want to join the Parks and Wreck sg. That's all there is to it! You can /chanjoin or do it by clicking on the chat tab to search for a channel to join. We have a fully functional base, so you can train, buy/sell enhancements/recipes/salvage, store your stuff, share with and get salvage/enh from your sgmates, use the merit vendor, pick up some useful buffs, and quickly travel to any zone with a base porter. You can also send a tell to anyone you see named here and happen to see in the game. Or you can send a tell to me @Tahliahat anytime; I'll get back to you when I log in if I'm not in-game at the time. Also, as a reminder, the sg is not limited to Troll Tuesdays, we also do other stuff with our crew from @StridingWind's farm for anyone interested in PLing to just running story mishes or filling out TFs or simply chatting while you solo. Irresponsible Creeper runs a non-troll/dom plant-themed group on the third Thursday of each month (trolls and doms are also welcome for that), and that's also amazing fun. @StridingWindis starting up level 50 all blaster/sent team, again Parks and Wreck themed; I'm not sure of the days/times for that yet, but we'll have it up in the MOTD once it's set. In short, there's something for everyone with a parksy wrecky side! Next week we will continue in Croatoa and finish up there so we can unlock Katie Hannon. Yes, while we are having a blast as we level our planters, we also want to ensure that our sg has every tf unlocked and available for future weekly strikes or just for the fun of a TF when we feel it. Besides, Croatoa is an amazing zone with great arcs and lots of fun (and badges and kill unlocks for accolades) to be had! What's not to love?

I think this is where I am coming from, too. I'm not really a superhero fan, per se. Don't get me wrong, I know some of the lore, have watched some of the movies, and played the other superhero games after CoX shutdown. I'm just not "into" supes or comics all that much, so what I love about CoH is not so much the hero concept as it is the hero heart of it--the game itself and the community. Even our villain players have hero hearts from what I can see; oh, they gripe about us do-gooders, but they are eager to help their fellow redside players (and even us bluesiders) and will do so at the drop of a tell. I also love the UI and the gameplay. Simple things like not having to click on "loot" bags or worry about how it all shares out over a team and even being able to simply run in a straight line or just stand still if I want. I'm not the most coordinated person on the planet, so those games where i have to learn to strafe and leap and roll around just aren't for me. Not only is moving my toon one of the absolutely least interesting things in the game to me (except flying, I love flying), but having my entire experience based on my ability to do so in just the right way is a deal breaker for me (and one reason I stopped playing some games like Secret World; I'd get hung up on some of the "jump up this complex series of boxes and around forcefields/trip wires/etc. in just this exact way within this time frame" quests and get frustrated enough to have my sgmate log into my toon and do it for me). This isn't to say I haven't figured out how to kite my own toons in COH for max survival, but that feels organic and natural to the toon's (and my own) progress in the game, not a requirement for enjoyment and progression. I also like that we have so many options for our UI compared to other games. I like having ALL my powers visible on the screen if that's what I want, and I like that I don't have to "swap" them out or figure out which power is available for which enemies (except at incarnates, which again feels organic and natural in CoH). I like targeting and combat in CoH much more than in any other game I've played (and I tried--and quit--MANY after shutdown), and I like that we have so many options for controls and keystrokes and the UI. It's not designed to force players into a box, and those who want that box can easily replicate it via options if they wish. I like that we have door/instanced missions, and I didn't really appreciate how much until I played other games after shutdown and found open world "quests" horribly tedious and annoying. Likewise, costume creation is huge. Sure, I'm not a big super hero fan, but playing something like Marvel, where everyone is one of six (or whatever, who cares?) set characters of someone else's creation . . . yawn. I can get invested in Ice Ice Baby and Power Plant. and Trapper Jayne and an escaped wolf-human hybrid who rescued research animals who became her pack (my beast MM), but I am not and can never get invested in controlling the eleventy-hundreth Black Widow or Hulk I see running around in a game. So yeah, I guess all things being equal, I could play CoH if it were fantasy or sci-fi or whatever. But there are so many of those games already, so why go there? Our City is, for so many of us, our home, and while it could still retain that if it suddenly had fantasy zones/storylines, it would be an odd mix and feel kind of forced and unnatural. (But then I still feel kind of that way about the Wards, so what do I know? Heh.)

Oh! I'm so glad you found one! I'll log on and change it so the whole thing is Winter Horde; maybe you'll get a few more from it then. 😄 [Edit to add: I went to update it with Winter Horde and saw that you actually meant a different arc, which I should have realized since you didn't mention me, @Display Name. I really need some coffee. Heh. Anyway, I went ahead and changed the enemies to Winter Horde since I was there anyway, so if you want variety in your AE candy cane quest, it's there.]

Mine does, it's called Little Demon Lost, but I have no idea what the number is (it's under my global @Tahliah). A couple of caveats, it's not a farm, but it's not really a very good story, either. I threw it together to get the AE badges, mostly, so it may not feel "finished," either, since I think I originally planned to add a couple more missions. I think it only has one or two now. All that said, it has Winter Horde, so crank up the team size and enjoy! 🙂 [Edit to add: you know, now that I am thinking about it--a thing I clearly haven't done in months, heh--it may have Winter Horde only at the end, with the EB. The rest might be Red Caps. I intended to have Winter Horde as the main baddies in the next missions, but . . . I haven't created those yet.]

Heh. You have the same "problem" all of us have! I keep rolling plant toons and can't seem to stop myself. Your quad of Orchid sisters are more than welcome, happy to have you with us! 😁 (and thanks, now I want to roll a plant/fire. Hehe.) [update: Yep. I did it. I rolled a plant/fire dom because the combo sounded so fun and I've never played that combo before! We really need to get together and run some of the lowbie toons / new rolls who are starting to populate the Parks and Wreck sg as a group. Fun!]

I clicked over because the idea sounded neat. But now I'm just confused. There's a long list of ready-made characters, complete apparently with names, ATs, powersets, backstory, and costumes (?), which is a turn off for obvious reasons, but then it's okay to create our own fairy tale inspired toons with our own names, backstories, and costumes? And if you're not around for weeks at a time, how does that work? Do you have a deputy who is online and can run things in your extended absence/s? I do love the idea, though, and as long as no one dips into the Disney well, think it should be fine in terms of CoC. As others have mentioned, the fairy tales themselves are in the public domain, so are fair game (just as figures from Greek, Roman, Celtic, etc. mythology are).

Cool info, Mister Mass, thanks! I don't recall the Halloween event being an entire month long on live, but it may have been. There's so much I've forgotten or mis-remembered after all this time. Yeah, holiday schedules at the end of the year do dip into available game time, so I hope they do run it for a full month, even if it starts Dec. 7ish and runs to through the first week of January. The longer, the better! It's not like we have to do the event if we want to do other stuff, but it gives people time to enjoy it all on various toons if they're busy with family and other that time of year stuff.

I've practiced a little, but I am notoriously horrible at it. I think I barely managed to get the bronze on live, and from my practice runs so far, that will be quite the achievement this time around. Sigh. I just can't seem to coordinate very well and end up slipping up and over the side . . . every single time. Oh well, I can live without those badges until they are the very last ones I need (if that day ever comes, heh). But, hey, I have the Trucker badge, too! And I am so excited for the missions in the ski slope area and the fun of seeing people hanging around the chalet. And trading in my candy canes for goodies. And Baby New Year, I've missed that ugly little guy every single Christmas since shutdown and can't wait to save him again.

Hey @Shadowfane! I've seen you in the chat channel and just wanted to make sure you were added to the sg; if not, next time you see me on, let me know, and I'll get you squared away. :) Welcome!
-
I'm also interested. I would think that it will begin on Dec. 1st since the Halloween event started on October 1st, but that's just a guess. Using that same thought process, I suspect that the winter event will have all the glorious wonders it's always had . . . plus some happy surprises for all of us. I. Cannot. Wait. So excited for this!!

Hi @Kawika79! Excelsior is chock full of amazing people who would love to team with you! The best thing to do is to post a message to the LFG (looking for group) channel stating your level and what you are looking for (missions, AE, DFB, tfs, etc.) or to send a tell to someone who is forming a team that you want to get in on. As you play with different people, you'll find that you "click" with some of them and can start building your friends' list from there. Before long, you'll have a long list of friends you can ask and who will ask you to team. I hope this helps! Oh, and I should add: You don't say what your toon is, but if it happens to be a plant troll or dom, we have a plant troll/dom crew that runs on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. (EST), and you are very welcome to join us! You can send a tell to me ingame @Tahliah or join our chat channel: Parks and Wreck to get added.

I, too, find myself using aim (and even buildup) much less when on most teams and leagues for the reasons you state. By the time I've hit them both, the mobs are either dead or down to a handful I can one-shot more quickly without them. That said, my ice/ice/ice is my badger and my main, so I do a lot of soloing on her and also duo a lot with my sgmate. So I frequently (always?) use both aim and buildup in those scenarios. Also, some teams, particularly for the weeklies, tend to spread out on larger kill-all maps, so if I take off on my own or with another teammate, I do use both aim and buildup to ensure max causalities. If I only did high level content on large/ish teams, I'd drop it, but if you exemp, solo, duo, etc., I wouldn't.

Mythical creatures MM? OMG, I want. A dragon would be awesome, so would a unicorn, though not as impressive as a fire-breathing dragon, it could do mind or sonic and be beautiful. And minotaurs and griffins and gorgons and a phoenix and Cerberus or two. Sigh! What a wonderful idea.

Hi, I'm your new official PvP community rep. Ask me anything.
Tahliah replied to CR Banana Man's topic in The Arena (PvP)
D'oh! Of course, PvP recipes. It didn't even occur to me, to be honest, since I just buy the PvP recipes I need for my PvE build (usually with merits). But that makes perfect sense! Heck, I'd do it, too, if I were a PvPer, then. I'm not sure about the "free kill," but that seems important, maybe there is some kind of reward for "x" number of kills in PvP beyond the seemingly easy number needed for the badge (even we PvEers can get that easily enough). As to using wakies, I was using restorations, so rez'd at 75% health, a pretty good chunk that I was happy to contribute to my damage badge. Sounds like it was a win-win, then. That makes me feel better. If I got decent drops (let alone a chance of a purple recipe) by killing greys in hunts, I'd do it, too! Maybe I'll grab some immortals and help out you guys while you help me out, too. :P -
Hi, I'm your new official PvP community rep. Ask me anything.
Tahliah replied to CR Banana Man's topic in The Arena (PvP)
I know exactly nothing about PvP, but I have a question for PvPers out there: is it fun for you to kill players who aren't actually PvPing? I think I know the answer, but it kind of baffles me (as to what is fun about that). Maybe that's why I don't PvP though? I just don't get it. What prompted my question is something that happened the other night. Some guy said he needed help in RV and people, including myself, went to help. Obviously this meant that every PvPer who saw the call rushed to RV (which I do get) and started picking off the people who were trying to take out LR. I get that, too, if you're dumb enough to go there, you're going to get ganked. Makes sense. The part that didn't make sense to me was that it just went on and on. I got killed at least six times. The first time I thought it was just an NPC since there were tons around, so I fought back. When I was killed, I thought it was by a toxic. Anyway, after that, I died again, and this time I saw that it was a PvPer and I realized that was probably what happened the first time. I didn't mind that time, either, to be clear. I was in their world and fair game. So after that, I grabbed a few restorations and headed back out. I figured that if nothing else, I could rez and get killed again since I've got a long way to go for my damage taken badges (I was on my badger). So I did that until I ran out of insp. But as I was hitting the rez candy, I thought to myself, okay, I know what I'm getting out of this, but what on earth is the fun in killing a toon that is just standing there without any defenses (having just rez'd, no armor, no shield, no nothing). I made no effort to fight back or to get away, so it just seemed . . . weird to me. When I ran out of wakies, I headed out, and I did make good progress on my damage badge, so yay! I was just curious about the fun in that for PvPers. It seemed as lame as hunting greys for kill badges (a thing I avoid by using ouro to get to appropriate lvl to head to zones and kill things that aren't effectively just standing there, not fighting back and without any defense at all). -
That would be great, @Shadowfane Of course you are more than welcome, and actually, @biostemis interested in joining us, as well, but works until well after we are finished for the night. I'm not sure of your schedules, but how great would it be to get a plant troll/dom team going on Tuesdays at a later/earlier time than 9 p.m. EST to accommodate work schedules and UK/European time zones?! If that doesn't sound good, though, you are definitely welcome to join our quickly growing Parks and Wreck crew. The easiest way is probably to join the Parks and Wreck chat channel and just let whomever is there know you want an sg invite. If you don't want to do that, you can send a tell to me @Tahliah and I will get you into the sg. Once there, you can /altinvite more toons if you wish.
-
That sounds awesome @Dark Current! We should have got screenshots last week for sure. A four-planter ITF definitely warrants a bit of screenshot celebration. Next time.
-
Thanks, @Allotrion! Mission accomplished then as we were hoping that reading about our plant troll adventures would spark that altitis fire in other plant troll/dom fans. 🙂 We'll keep an eye out for you and be thrilled to have you join us!
-
Wow, that sounds completely awful. If there's time (and it sounds like there may not have been), I'd probably have dropped ouro and got out of there and then come back in away from the ambush fully loaded with insp, maybe even pick up some buffs at the sg base just to be double sure I got my revenge. Heh Another thought, though, email yourself some insp, so you can easily access them in any situation. I keep a few (restorations, purples, yellows, and emerges) there just in case and am happy they are there when I really need them.
-
Hmm, that's weird, then. Some people don't bother calling in the last mission once they get that Ouro Flashback complete box and just quit the task force instead. If you didn't hit "quit task force" instead of calling it in to the contact, it should have awarded. If you just quit at that point, it will not award. I'm almost done with mine but just to check ran a quick flashback and got both Demarcated and Temerarious [after getting the flashback complete box inside the mission, then exiting, and calling the contact to close out the flashback.]. Is it possible you already have those badges? I know it's unlikely, but I can't think why they would award to some players and not to others/you.
