even if I'm Figs, and full of violence?

is it crashes like just get high again, or the makes your nose bleed, maybe have a stroke kind?

  2. BIG WINNERS - your BEST AT 2023 awards

    The polls:

    Blaster

    Brute

    Controller

    Corruptor

    Defender

    Dominator

    Mastermind

    Scrapper

    Sentinel

    Stalker

    Tanker

    HEAT - Kheldians

    VEAT - Arachnos

    Welcome everyone!  It's me, Figs.

    spacer.png

You may know me from my costume designs, my amazing secret base, or as the hero/villain who carried your team, or solved your balance theorycrafting arguments in one post!

As the days get colder, and scarfs are worn, it's time to warm our hands by the fire and consider the greatest of AT in 2023.

Everyone has their thing, but you spoke in the above polls, and here we'll briefly review the winners.  Check out the polls themselves for more discussion, or to add your thoughts and opinions.

Do you super disagree? surprised? confused at what people chose?  make it known!

Blaster - damage, dots and damage. no fluff, no nonsense, inferno, blaze and bonfires reign.

    • best primary:  FIRE
    • best secondary: FIRE
    • best epic power pool: FLAME

Brute - we see rage scaling dots in savage, super strength raw smash in primary, and a similar thought in secondary with bio and rad.  rad has seen a bump recently, where its pbaoe abilities and high procc'ability therein supplement a well rounded set.

bio brings stance-like flexibility which extends across several abilities of the set, from defensive shell-like, to offensive buff which supplements a brute's fury / (rage) well.

    • best primary: TIE for SAVAGE and SUPER STRENGTH
    • best secondary: TIE for BIO and RADIATION
    • best epic power pool: SOUL

Controller - illusion, it's PA, its fear pet that cant be hurt... it's spectral wounds decent damage, and it's blind as a hold with built-in sleep aoe around it... even the 32 pet that copies itself.  illu wins out controller primary - where the set outshines the dominator more recent twin sibling addition.  Darkness Affinity is a set unique to controllers, and brings so much -tohit, def and res, healing, aoe rez+autohit stun, and another pet.  it is hardly a surprise that an illu/dark controller is considered one of the 'few' among this AT that isn't thought 'a burden in harder CoH content'.

    • best primary: ILLUSION
    • best secondary: DARK AFFINITY
    • best epic power pool: PSIONIC

Corruptor - fire. fire with scourge. it's an execute for corruptors, and the dots work with it.  paired with our winning secondary cold dom, we have a corruptor who's like frostfire, and whom brings damage and strong debuff, and rains of dots a plenty.

    • best primary: FIRE
    • best secondary: COLD DOMINATION
    • best epic power pool: DARK

Defender - tied for cold dom (one of our strongest debuff sets), and time manipulation (like kin, but arguably less hassle and with some unique stuff), defender was less split in secondary - where ice blast just beat out sonic, a traditional pick. maybe for thematics, maybe for ice's holds and st damage potential, maybe for the rains.

    • best primary: TIE for COLD DOMINATION and TIME MANIPULATION
    • best secondary: ICE
    • best epic power pool: TIE for PSI and SOUL

Dominator - plant, probably the one most of us that rolled new in CoV did first time through.  seeds at mag 6 (with or without contagious confusion) remains quick cast, low cooldown, and decent spread.  creepers is extremely unique, and apart from the spirit tree, the set is extremely strong, or equals other picks.  psionic won out secondary, with a good vatiety of powers, decent aoe, and a damage type that supplements lethal/toxic well.

    • best primary: PLANT
    • best secondary: PSI
    • best epic power pool: PSI

Mastermind - pet keepers everywhere agree, in 2023, the buffed necromancy set, with its minion summoning on your blasts, and soul extraction literal doubling of pet numbers (and them all being buffable / healable) has pushed this set to the top.  The skeleton knights hit hard, the lich is useful, and the zombies can run at 60mph speed boosted.  perfect for your post-apocalypse.

Time wins out secondary, ahead of dark - a decent heal that needs no target and puts a hot, an aura, buffs to your recharge (for more soul extractions) and to that of your team... and defense, makes for a strong combination.

    • best primary: NECROMANCY
    • best secondary: TIME
    • best epic power pool: TIE for HEAT and MACE

Scrapper - battle axe. oh yes.  they changed it, you see. cones aren't cones, they're little spheres on BA.  the difference, practically, can be felt from your first trip to the sewers where 'oh, wow' is the reaction you'll have... and this continues through the set.  you get a sucks-them-in-mini-teleport-aoe, strong hits on single target, with the kind of base damage scrappers like to crit with.

Bio was the big winner for secondary, not even close.  its offensive supplement, mixture of healing res and def, and overall utility as a high skill ceiling set leave no surprise for scrappy heroes.

    • best primary: BATTLE AXE
    • best secondary: BIO ARMOR
    • best epic power pool: SOUL

Sentinel - electric won out on sentinel, which surprised me a bit, but it makes sense.  the hold power thats terrible on blaster (tesla cage), is amazingly good on sentinel, there's quick aoe, and enough end drain to make you feel somewhat sappy.  Bio armor wins comfortably for armor set.  I don't know from play, but am told its extremely good on sentinel, and is extremely good period.

    • best primary: ELECTRIC
    • best secondary: BIO ARMOR
    • best epic power pool: PSI

Stalker - sneaky stalkers pick energy, which has ludicrously good single target damages.  pairing in choice with energy aura, which of the ATs who get EA, is said to be 'best on stalker'.  this combo won't be end starved, will resist being end drawn a bit, and should have increased recharge and other nice things.

    • best primary: ENERGY
    • best secondary: ENERGY
    • best epic power pool: SOUL

Tanker - tankers rejoice!  it's been a good year. with bonus range on aoe and cones, high target caps... there's chatter you'll hear about using a tank as a farmer, if they only had fury.  brutes felt left out a bit, and even took to complain about their ATO qualities by comparison to tanker - which is in a good spot.  Radiation armor wins this year, though there was much variance in chosen votes.  super strength wins out for the melee set choice, despite NOT benefiting from range improvements other sets enjoy.

    • best primary: RADIATION
    • best secondary: SUPER STRENGTH
    • best epic power pool: ENERGY

KHELDIANS - you either love them or you think they're cheating, or you think theyre underpowered.  you either are amazed by the PB light show, or think it hurts your eyes.  most of you don't like knockback on some of the things, but others want the whole package.  we're tied here, and the voting was special by category.

    • best kheldian: TIE for tri-form peacebringer, and human only warshade (two very different playstyles)

ARACHNOS EMPLOYEES - fortunata won hands down.  the spider soldier doesn't add up anymore, particularly with mm buffs to half of their sets, though the grenades remain decent.  widow is alright, but stalker is better.  fortunata, however, gets a mix of what feels like strong blaster-leaning-dominator damage in psi skills, a stealth, link minds, extremely strong (and stackable) leadership buffs, many cones (with toxic dmg if not psi).  fortunata remains good.

    • best arachnos employee: fortunata

Thank you all for voting in the polls, and for commenting too!

who knows what'll be next! (wind control????????!!!?!?!?!!!)  I know there's a place that looks like blighttown coming.

its a little squishy at times but overall fun as heck

and positional, which is fun, and you gift a lot of mitigation... just wish you could color shield powers tho.

  4. if ice patch had a shatter the player could trigger, that consumes the patch, for conal or sphere aoe, everyone would be happy!

    the cc goes away,

it becomes a trap of sorts,

    it does the damages,

and hell make it debuff you if you pop the shatter.

    big success,

    no collusion,

    total exhonoration,

    perfect phone call, right?

  5. while youre back and forth throwing hard nuts at each other's throats, i would like to point out that no one has sent me any influence for my shadow auras at @finnthehuman

if ice patch dropped from using frozen aura... sure...  whats going in the hole from ice patch?

people tend to pitch a powercreep kanipshun.

but im all about that forward progress, and momentum!

I'm not against there being some secondary effect, like shattering the ice patch, but I would only want it to occur when I specifically want it to - I wouldn't want it to become a targetable pseudo-pet like oil slick arrow, where someone else could "activate" it and undo the soft control I was going for.  Perhaps casting ice patch replaces the power icon with a "shatter" power, which does as you described, so only the caster can opt to do so...

thats how it works in dragons dogma... well sort of.

you hold down the cast, which is a pbaoe, then when you do another ability it snaps off in cone to finish.

what you suggest about turning it into a little patch-shatter-to-press would work nicely, i think anyways.

  7. 'tis great suggestion!!

i made a /rad in a stalker, where it was surprisingly effective.  there the aoes make the ato proc for build up go off constantly and consistently!

brute would be similar, but with a building swirl of fury helped along by things like ludicrous target caps on the nuke pretending to be an ally heal.

  8. ive never done super strength. ever. i hear its fun!

any good secondaries go with, aside from bio?

was thinking maybe firey, but i dont wanna do burn.

    something punchy... ice?

How is the new kid on the block - Illusion Control - working out for Dominators?  Is PermaDom less impressive?

so the pa dont taunt. them doing that meant you use them like a temporary tank and solid opener, as controller illu can.

glimmer of flashy beams, or whatever its called is good.

doms lose spectral wounds, and have a attack'ey secondary, so that makes sense.  the replacement of spectral wall is crappy.

as a dom, Id not recommend illu. youre control light, the fear pet is a pet, so doesnt apply domination mag.

so you lose out imo vs controller, similar mag, a better PA, and a 2ndary up to and including as powerful as dark affinity.

    obv theres a different focus.

if you want damage that still benefits from domination, and gets an echo pet which copues your uses of cc (albeit without dom mag boost, as pet)... check symphony / fire, psi, or the like.

  10. someone once did an analysis of mob dmg resistances, among the most uncommonly resisted:

    0/ toxic (often entirely unresisted)

1/ cold (very uncommonly resisted, aside from obv like ice elemental demon things, and probably signature npcs)

2/ negative (ghosts, nictus, undeadish things resist)

    3/ fire (surprisingly uncommonly resisted)

4/ energy (less commonly resisted than smash / lethal)

    commonly resisted:

    most - lethal

    a bit less - smashing

something like stalker... you can really notice that 'whatever this is really cuts hard' on sets like ice.

fire is fire, its always fire.

likewise, forum regulars are often astounded by my knowledge, contributions, theory crafting, and balance / powercreep expertise!

my costumes are the stuff of legend, and are regularly downloaded and copied at costume contests.

  12. super strength doing well on the brute tier list also, and has me wondering in the set.

it doesnt get range benefits from tanker at, and its the inly one like that.

i imagine with rage its quite the monster on the brute at.

same deal for tanks, i guess, and hardier?

If KM siphoned speed as well as damage it would help I think

the tsoo version'ish, well what they do on some of them, siphons a lot. same with those ninjas in the summer block buster arena.

yes, would be nice if built into some, but i think they actually siphon speed (as a power).
