  1. EggKookoo, you are my new bestest friend. This right here.
  2. If you are playing your game at such a volume that it blows out your ears, you have bigger issues than getting along with me. You have the mentallity that everyone else should give up what they love, because you cannot put your speakers at a reasonable volume, or be bothered to change the sound yourself...which you have the capability to do so. Hell, you can change it to kitty cats meow if you so desired. Instead, you want everyone else to be forced to listen to a different style based on your idea of what is acceptable. Yeah, that's fair, right? You: "I dont want to turn my volume down, I dont want to change the sound effects on my end, everyone else needs to also change their sound effect too!" Sounds like you believe somehow that you must get special treatment and everyone else must accept what you want changed. Unbelievable. You have the tools, you have a volume dial along with those tools. I suggest you use them.
  3. Here we go... So now I'm a Troll. Because I love the sound effects in game and how they were applied. I guess I was trolling as well when I preferred the original brilliant graphics of armors. Things in this game have been toned down to death. Those of us who loved it, no longer have it. Foot Stomp somehow survived the sound nerfs, and we are glad. I honestly don't even know how to respond to somebody calling me a troll, because I love a sound effect in game. It does not blow my eardrums out. I question how loud people are playing the game if they claim a sound effect that has been in game for this amount of years, is blowing out their ears....especially when each player has control of these sound effects. The eye candy was nerfed, much of the sound effects has been nerfed....and now we have people wanting even more nerfed. If the fact that sound effects are something that I find iconic in this game makes me a troll, then you and I are going to have some serious problems...and we most likely will not be getting along.
  4. There have been a lot of sound effects that were iconic to this game that have lost their flavor due to toning down sound effects and how they once stacked. Healing Aura, and the Thermal Heals to name a couple. They have truly lost their ear candy because of people's complaints. Now we have an option for you to make them whatever you like. So please, for the love of mankind, leave the last iconic sound we have in game that has not been nerfed alone? I dont speak for all, but not only do I love the power amplified and stacked sound effects of foot stomp, but I also would prefer they un-nerf the ones that once had this effect. Now that players can change this, I see no reason we shouldn't be able to get them back. These sounds are iconic, they set this game apart from others in the sound effects department. I would rather them stay that way.
  5. I very much remember the original full customization plan. I might still have an old magazine article I saved somewhere that talked about this. I remember a power called "stone hammer" being mentioned in the article. I can't say that I don't think that the AT system was probably better, though. CO's freeform has certainly created it's share of problems. As far as movement power suppression, there may be no direct evidence linking it to PvP but the timing is too coincidental for me not to think that it was a part, and probably no small part. Jousting in PvE was a thing from word go but little to nothing was done about it. Jousting starts happening in PvP and the "fix" suddenly shows up. Could be, but I recall another statement Jack Emmert made regarding the game and a mistake the he thought that he had made. That was something about the game being what the game is at launch and how much harder it was to sell people on things after the fact. But he was talking about crafting if memory serves. That there were people that wanted crafting but since there had been no crafting at launch that many of those players had moved on and it was harder to bring them back than it would have been to keep them if they had had crafting to begin with. There may have been some mention of PvP, but it's been too long for me to be sure. The thing that mainly sticks out in my mind regarding PvP, is the occasional player coming to the forums requesting it, and then watching the thread burn as players mentioned the Devs said this game will never be a PvP game. Players were pretty harsh about it, which is why it stands out so much in my mind. I mean, they were very unforgiving in their responses to the players who were asking for PvP. Like you, I am also going off of some very old memory. I want to say I know exactly how it happened and be firm with it, because my memory does tell me how it played out, however, it is such old memory now, I can't say it with a straight face and swear by it. I do seem to recall the direct link to the Dev post about PvP that players would copy and paste in to their comments made toward players asking for PvP...but again, this is old memory.
  6. I think it best if we just both place each other on ignore. [This was a good idea several posts ago -- GM_Fiddleback]
  7. This was my first server. I played Obsidian on Justice. Most people called me Obby. I moved to Protector after my first year on Justice due to all my friends leaving the game. Felt it would be easier to just start new on a new server, so I did. I know chances are, I will not find my old friends here, but here's to wishful thinking.
  8. I was DEBTINATOR on Protector. Until server transfers, then I moved to Freedom.
  9. @Wraiven on Live, obviously @Solarverse now. ;)
  10. That's Jack fully two years before the game released. PvP was at the very least on the whiteboard of things to do way back then. Even if he had said that there wouldn't be PvP around launch, he would have been eating those words in about two weeks, when they announced City of Villains at E3. The ToHit Debuff had always been there in Fly, as far as I recall, but was added to Super Speed and Super Jump with the release of Issue 4, with Arena PvP, mind you, then switched to suppression a week later. I'm not kidding, it was that fast. I'm sure there was a PvE use of jousting, but I would say that the timing puts the onus of the change mostly on PvP balance. I can't be for sure on this part, but Arena was scrapped at the same time that having full power customization was scrapped. For example, fire sword circle, with blaster powers, combined with controller powers. If you watch some of those videos, they even used those powers together. Originally City of Heroes was supposed to let you combine any powers you wanted. That obviously was changed at some point, as was the idea to bring PvP in to the game. I am fairly certain that the Devs decided against PvP and stated it would not be a part of the game after it went live. I would have to do some digging to find it, if the post even still exists at all. I was not a Beta player, but was there from the moment that it went live, and I remember nothing of the sort. Yes, they changed their minds about power selection, implementing ATs and power sets, but that was a year later, and with no mention of PvP, either confirming or denying any plans for it. Again, they would have been really shortsighted to say something like that anywhere near launch, when they were giving a demonstration of PvP at E3, about two weeks later. It was after the game went live and an occasional player would come to the forums and ask about PvP. If memory serves me correctly (and this is old memory, very old memory) a Dev came in to one of those threads and said this was not a PvP game and PvP was not going to happen. After that particular thread came out and the Dev post on that thread, any time a player came to the boards and asked about PvP, the players would chime in and tell the OP of that thread, that the Devs have already said it was not going to happen. Most often times the people who said this was not so nice about it, as they were sick of players asking about PvP and felt the question was a dead horse. Like I said, I'm sure if I tried really hard, I could find at least something that would collaborate this. However, you'll have to take it with a grain of salt, since I won't be doing all that today. :)

  12. No. Opening with sarcastic BS is not being rational. It's an immediate attempt to poison the well. The opposite of rational discussion. You basically called me a liar in your first sentence. I never called you a liar. I disagreed with you. Huge difference. Also, the closest thing to snark I gave you was asking you if you believed everything a Dev says. Even that was not considered snark by me...I consider that a direct question which I was hoping to get a direct answer. Disagreeing is not calling somebody a liar, it is disagreeing.
  13. Yes, I'm totally gonna find an archive site to filter through thousands of posts for someone who decided to play snarky BS rather than considering an obvious and reasonable answer... Burden of proof is on me and all, but you opened by demonstrating you weren't capable of rational discussion. My discussion was very rational. It was from my point of view, one which others seem to share. Honestly, nobody truly knows why the Devs did things that they did....it is ALL speculation, since we don't even know if the Devs were honest with us. They had every reason to lie about it, however, they may have very well been telling the truth. So the fact is, nobody truly knows. We only know what we saw, and what we experienced. It is up to the individual to decide whether or not they believe the Devs or not. I for one do not. I believe they lied to us. Honestly, if I were in their shoes at that time, I probably would have lied as well. I cannot say I am any better. Sometimes you justify the means. Also, I am the OP of this thread...and this thread has been derailed by you guys so much, that I left this thread a long time ago, only to recently rejoin. This thread has been derailed and has nothing to do with the original topic of the thread. Instead of trying to find an answer to the original topic, it turned in to a silly debate on what the original Devs did and what their motives were. The fact is, it doesn't even matter. It is pointless. Travel Power Suppression no longer exists to the degree it once did. So the argument as to when and why doesn't even matter. Just two people trying to sound important. Who cares? What does that have to do with now and the stance these Devs have with PvP and the balance of the game? I'm willing to drop it with a friendly agreement. Neither one of us truly knows why Travel Power Suppression was created. It is purely speculation and depends on if you believe the official reasons given by the original Devs, or if you feel the reasons given were questionable do to the suspicious timing and the events that were taking place, during the time that it was implemented. The truth is most likely somewhere in between. If we can agree on this, I'm willing to shake on it. :)
  14. I will say this, it is possible and even likely the Devs tossed around the idea before PvP, due to a select few people who jousted mobs. However, it is clear they felt it was not a big enough issue to implement travel power suppression until AFTER PvP hit the game. So I will at least give you that much. But to say it was placed in game because of PvE, is simply not true.
  15. I mean, never mind that it was being planned well before PvP was ever implemented. Gotta go with your gut and ignore the actual evidence! And how do you know this? ....because I was playing the game back then and followed the dev posts on the forums. Kinda makes the rest of your reply look pretty stupid when the answer was so obvious, doesn't it? That's funny, because I played the same game you did, during the same time you did...and I recall differently than you. Kinda makes your post seem like it requires evidence to back up your claims a bit. As of right now, I have sen zero to prove your point. The evidence falls on the side of the pople who believe those changes to be made due to PvP.
  16. I mean, never mind that it was being planned well before PvP was ever implemented. Gotta go with your gut and ignore the actual evidence! And how do you know this? Why, because the Devs of the original told you this? And you believed it? The evidence shows otherwise. If this was the case, they would have put it on the known issues list BEFORE PvP. It was in response to the horde of players with pitch forks who came and demanded nerfs on these boards. I was here, I seen it. The Devs, only AFTER the hordes came demanding nerfs, suddenly changed travel power suppression. You seriously believe everything a Dev tells you? The Devs didn't want to get rage from the PvE players over a change that was made for PvP. This was their motive for blatantly lying to us. And if you don't think Devs can lie to cover their butts, I direct you to Jack Emmert and the things he said about STO before STO was released...and then look at the craptastic game he created. I also direct you to the Devs when they said PvP would never exist in City of Heroes...and then suddenly, despite the majority of players not wanting PvP, they implemented it anyway. I can go on for days, literally days, in all the ways Developers of games have lied over the course of the past 20 years. You are going off of what the Devs told you, this is your evidence that you bring to the table. Others are going off the evidence that is presented, despite what the Devs told you...and the timing involved.
  17. I'm not going to say I am wrong, but I will say that pretty much everything you wrote can be added to what I already said...and between the both of our interpretations of what caused this, we have summed it up nicely. :)
  18. In the case of Bloody Bay, no. He was not. In the case of Warburg, yes. Both Heroes. However, in Warburg, it's a free for all, everyone vs everyone. So alliance should not matter.
  19. I don't think that's entirely fair. Even before DFB it was far faster/smoother to do the initial City Hall contact (or street sweep) then head to Kings Row and start doing radio missions at level 5 or 6. I love the Hollows - it's one of my favourite zones and you can be sure I ran my first new hero there as soon as I could - but even I wouldn't run it on every character. Oh but it is fair. The evidence rules strongly in favor of blaming DFB. What stopped players from going to the Hollows so much initially was the Hollows Revamp. Before the Revamp, teams were flourishing in the Hollows. It got considerably worse after DFB. Nobody wants to put the blame on anything that the majority of the players love doing, but the proof is there, all you had to do is watch it happen and unfold. Hollows has become a dead zone due to DFB. It was drying up after the revamp, even though people on the boards say they like Hollows better after the revamp, but the evidence of what people on these boards say, do not add up to what is being seen in game. I have come to understand that people on the boards want to appear important, so they will say things that doesn't add up in game. This has become obvious. And yes, DFB is a great deal to blame here because that is what the evidence shows us. Before the Revamp, Hollows was not packed like it once was, but you always seen players running around in Hollows, willing to team for the several different things there is to do in there, especially missions leading up to Frostfire. I never had any issues forming groups to run Hollows...until the Revamp. After teh Revamp, despite what players on the forums say, the zone died. You might see one, maybe two players in the Hollows doing things. It was pathetic. The revamp did nothing to change Hollows and the traffic Hollows got. It made it worse. However, I could still find people through the search function to put together teams with relative ease for missions in the Hollows. Now we enter DFB...and now we have posts such as this one spawning from the direct interference with DFB. How do I know all of this? Because I am an Altaholic, and the Hollows is part of my regular routine of leveling up. I have actually seen these things unfold. The evidence proves otherwise. It is very much the fault of DFB and AE. People will always take the path of least resistance. This is why DFB and AE is so popular. However, all they have accomplished is creating dead zones and lazy play. I warned the original Devs this would happen as a direct consequence of allowing AE missions to grant xp. I was ignored. Now we have exactly what I had warned against. DFB should have only been given a lock out timer. Since it was not given a lock-out timer, we now have dead lowbie zones.
  20. This was not a thing when I last played. However, players, even in Warburg, are unattackable. What is going on? Do they have an option to not be attacked in PvP now?
  21. I see myself plenty in combat...and when I am not in combat, just hanging out, I turn hide off. Since you can already turn off hide, I honestly can't see the Devs incorporating any time and money in to this. Seems to be a waste for them to implement something you already have complete control of.
  22. It's a shame ots not as straightforward as other effects, but that's the nature of the game :/ As for encouraging knockback, the intent behind the change is to make it more forgiving or actually *encouraged* where a powerful blast could just delete enemies more effectively rather than slow the team down, or better keep enemies prone for longer for safety. Either way, the issue is in one part that it's hard to master and in another part that the negatives do not outweigh the benefits when compared to other (soft) control effects I can Amen to that. :)
  23. I'm afraid this will only further encourage bad players who use knock back against the grain of the team. I can see them now, coming out of the wood work with abilities full of knock back, and scattering mobs all over the place. This might sound like a good idea here on the forums, but in game, it will only serve to irritate other players. Too bad Knock Back does not come with a tutorial on how to play with a team and not against one.
  24. Sounds like you play alright then. My mian is an Energy Blaster...and I got insanely good at controlling my knock back and using it to my team's advantage. You don't sound like one of those guys who just send mobs flying without a care in the world, lol. You sound like a safe bet to have on a team.
