  1. I swear, that story got me right here (points toward my heart) because I know how that feels. I have stories similar involving a few powers that were changed here and there, the EM Nerf being one of them. Once proud Heroes, no old has-beens because of the nerfs...doing nothing but collecting dust.
  2. ^^^ This. I'd be fine with just removing the damage debuff. I think it gimps the power to have two crashes. It should be an either/or IMO It currently has three crashes. Endurance drain, damage drain and defense reduction. Which is why my main tank skipped it completely. Sad huh? Yes, yes it is. :( I have it, but I have it on a WP. I wouldn't pick it up on anything but a WP or Elec. Elec has no defense, and does well with Endurance as long as you pick up Energize, so can't hurt that. WP has Regen, REALLY good Endurance Recovery and Resist to back up on, so can't hurt that much either. Everything else though? I wouldn't dare.
  3. I was speaking specifically on PMs on these boards.
  4. They’re never going to be equal, because Ice has Defense to Smash/Lethal, which is often paired with Fire damage, but not always. In fact, you probably have it backwards; Fire is likely more vulnerable to Cold than Ice is to Fire, because of that defense. Also, Cold usually comes with -Recharge, which messes up Fire with its reliance on its self-heal, while Fire Damage rarely comes with any other side effect. I honestly am not even ready to get involved with this discussion of Fire vs Ice yet...because neither one is even remotely close to being on par with WP, Elec, Shield or even Invuln for that matter. Until Ice and Fire gets the love they need to bring them on par with WP and the other top ranking sets, I'm cannot even be concerned with how they stack up against each other. Ice is good, do not get me wrong, but it pales in comparison to WP and the other sets. And personally, to me, Fire seems very gimp against anything other than the silly farms Fire Tanks like to do....which makes them useless in my eyes.
  5. I'm not very good at ghosting. I get this irresistible urge to respond! :D

  7. I didnt think it had anything going for it. Felt very childish to me.
  8. Ice has always been the weakest melee damage in game...unless of course it is being used by Outcast. Honestly, it needs a damage buff, however it will probably never see one since the set never has seen one other than the tier 9. If damage is what you are after, I wouldn't go with Ice if I were you.
  9. Why does SS have to be middle of the pack? This right here. Damn good question. Sounds to me we are scared of aggroing Elec players in to stomping on this thread...for fear of losing their number one spot...or whatever spot people feel is number one. :D At one time, SS used to be the number one power set. It was for years. Personally, I think the only fix it needs is to lose the -defense and endurance crash. the -99% damage is fine....and fair.
  10. Knowing what he is doing and why, hell...I would let him on a team with me in a heart beat....just to see him try and survive, lol. He would earn decent xp too. Sadly though, I level with TF's. I'm a TF Junkie, so chances are we won't be hanging out.
  11. People are going to hate you being on their team, lol. You will have a lot of explaining to do along the way, but I am interested to see how this goes, so good luck!
  12. I honestly don't know. I cannot say one way or the other because I know nothing about how these types of files work. However, if somebody knows how to do this type of thing, and knows how to add in the amplified sounds with the stacking sound effects, I would be more than happy to follow the directions in to regaining the original sound files. I would do it in a split second. I have actually asked this question once before, and everyone was saying in that thread that you could change sounds, but there was no way to achieve the effect that I am wanting back. So I accepted (since they seemed more knowledgeable than I) that and left it alone. However, I am secretly hoping somebody finds a way, or the Devs make these things and option for us as players. If there is a real way to achieve this, I'm all over it.
  13. Considering the closest thing you've had to a valid suggestion was for me to render all other sounds (including important audio cues I need to play somewhat well) inaudible so this ONE OUTLIER isn't ridiculously loud, I have to question your understanding of the word "reasonable" as well. Foot Stomp would sound great if it played at the same volume as the rest of the game. It. Does. NOT. Start by acknowledging that fact and we can have a reasonable discussion. My game sounds volume is at 15%; my computer master volume is at 30%, and my speakers are also turned way down. At those settings ANY other game on my computer would be unplayably quiet. Don't insult me by claiming I'm somehow playing this game at a loud volume. I have already stated that the sound is amplified and duplicated. This is intended, as the more enemies hit, the more amplified the sound. This is also what gives this power a great deal of appeal by a great deal of players. This is not in question. However, I do not feel the sound is too loud. Too me it is appropriate and fits the expected sound of somebody smashing their fist or foot to the earth with such force that it cracks the ground beneath and knocks down multiple enemies around me. Perhaps if I played the game at twice the volume, I would find it to be too loud, but then I would simply adjust my volume accordingly. Now, if I felt as you do, here is what I would honestly do to correct the issue. Keep in mind, I have never been a believer in changing things that other people love....even if what other people love frustrates me. And trust me, Ice Secondary for Blasters is something I hate, frustrates me and want changed. However, it would seem a lot of players like it as it stands, so instead of trying to change it to something else, I have proposed a buff for the set instead. So trust me when I say, I know what it is like to be in your position of not liking something that a lot of players love as is. I have been there right where you are, and I get it. Now, here is what I would do if I were in your shoes. Since clearly this change is not going to happen without getting a lot of flack from players, I would record the sound of Foot Stomp with maybe 3 NPC's instead of 20. I would then take that file and add it to the file of the game, replacing the existing one. After that, any time a player used Foot Stomp, that player would hear the sound he loves, and I would hear the sound that I love. Everybody is happy in this situation. It actually sucks for me still, because although you have a way to tone down the sound effect for you, I have no way of getting back the amplified and duplicated sounds that we have already lost in game. I'm still waiting for an option to get those back, and I would gladly do so even if it means I have to put in a bit of work on my end, so nobody else has to suffer the sounds if they do not wish to do so. I would also make the sound bite available for other players who want what I want and post them on these forums. The point is, you have a way to change them, I have no way to revert them if they get changed.
  14. Did I not say, TWICE, that the volume for EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE GAME was at a comfortable level? Oh right, I did. I suggest you get yourself some fucking reading comprehension before you make another inane reply like that. Oh wow, you dropped the F bomb on me. I play my game at a reasonable volume as well....and when foot stomp is used, it doesnt shake .y desk or hurt my ears. Maybe your "reasonable volume" isn't the same as mine. Also....don't cuss at me...so far you have called me a Troll, and dropped the F bomb at me. And still I am trying to hold a so.ewhat reasonable conversation with you. I don't take being called a troll lightly, and I take the F bomb even less lightly. Let's not do this...
  15. EggKookoo, you are my new bestest friend. This right here.
  16. If you are playing your game at such a volume that it blows out your ears, you have bigger issues than getting along with me. You have the mentallity that everyone else should give up what they love, because you cannot put your speakers at a reasonable volume, or be bothered to change the sound yourself...which you have the capability to do so. Hell, you can change it to kitty cats meow if you so desired. Instead, you want everyone else to be forced to listen to a different style based on your idea of what is acceptable. Yeah, that's fair, right? You: "I dont want to turn my volume down, I dont want to change the sound effects on my end, everyone else needs to also change their sound effect too!" Sounds like you believe somehow that you must get special treatment and everyone else must accept what you want changed. Unbelievable. You have the tools, you have a volume dial along with those tools. I suggest you use them.
  17. Here we go... So now I'm a Troll. Because I love the sound effects in game and how they were applied. I guess I was trolling as well when I preferred the original brilliant graphics of armors. Things in this game have been toned down to death. Those of us who loved it, no longer have it. Foot Stomp somehow survived the sound nerfs, and we are glad. I honestly don't even know how to respond to somebody calling me a troll, because I love a sound effect in game. It does not blow my eardrums out. I question how loud people are playing the game if they claim a sound effect that has been in game for this amount of years, is blowing out their ears....especially when each player has control of these sound effects. The eye candy was nerfed, much of the sound effects has been nerfed....and now we have people wanting even more nerfed. If the fact that sound effects are something that I find iconic in this game makes me a troll, then you and I are going to have some serious problems...and we most likely will not be getting along.
  18. There have been a lot of sound effects that were iconic to this game that have lost their flavor due to toning down sound effects and how they once stacked. Healing Aura, and the Thermal Heals to name a couple. They have truly lost their ear candy because of people's complaints. Now we have an option for you to make them whatever you like. So please, for the love of mankind, leave the last iconic sound we have in game that has not been nerfed alone? I dont speak for all, but not only do I love the power amplified and stacked sound effects of foot stomp, but I also would prefer they un-nerf the ones that once had this effect. Now that players can change this, I see no reason we shouldn't be able to get them back. These sounds are iconic, they set this game apart from others in the sound effects department. I would rather them stay that way.
  19. I very much remember the original full customization plan. I might still have an old magazine article I saved somewhere that talked about this. I remember a power called "stone hammer" being mentioned in the article. I can't say that I don't think that the AT system was probably better, though. CO's freeform has certainly created it's share of problems. As far as movement power suppression, there may be no direct evidence linking it to PvP but the timing is too coincidental for me not to think that it was a part, and probably no small part. Jousting in PvE was a thing from word go but little to nothing was done about it. Jousting starts happening in PvP and the "fix" suddenly shows up. Could be, but I recall another statement Jack Emmert made regarding the game and a mistake the he thought that he had made. That was something about the game being what the game is at launch and how much harder it was to sell people on things after the fact. But he was talking about crafting if memory serves. That there were people that wanted crafting but since there had been no crafting at launch that many of those players had moved on and it was harder to bring them back than it would have been to keep them if they had had crafting to begin with. There may have been some mention of PvP, but it's been too long for me to be sure. The thing that mainly sticks out in my mind regarding PvP, is the occasional player coming to the forums requesting it, and then watching the thread burn as players mentioned the Devs said this game will never be a PvP game. Players were pretty harsh about it, which is why it stands out so much in my mind. I mean, they were very unforgiving in their responses to the players who were asking for PvP. Like you, I am also going off of some very old memory. I want to say I know exactly how it happened and be firm with it, because my memory does tell me how it played out, however, it is such old memory now, I can't say it with a straight face and swear by it. I do seem to recall the direct link to the Dev post about PvP that players would copy and paste in to their comments made toward players asking for PvP...but again, this is old memory.
  20. I think it best if we just both place each other on ignore. [This was a good idea several posts ago -- GM_Fiddleback]
  21. This was my first server. I played Obsidian on Justice. Most people called me Obby. I moved to Protector after my first year on Justice due to all my friends leaving the game. Felt it would be easier to just start new on a new server, so I did. I know chances are, I will not find my old friends here, but here's to wishful thinking.
  22. I was DEBTINATOR on Protector. Until server transfers, then I moved to Freedom.
  23. @Wraiven on Live, obviously @Solarverse now. ;)
  24. That's Jack fully two years before the game released. PvP was at the very least on the whiteboard of things to do way back then. Even if he had said that there wouldn't be PvP around launch, he would have been eating those words in about two weeks, when they announced City of Villains at E3. The ToHit Debuff had always been there in Fly, as far as I recall, but was added to Super Speed and Super Jump with the release of Issue 4, with Arena PvP, mind you, then switched to suppression a week later. I'm not kidding, it was that fast. I'm sure there was a PvE use of jousting, but I would say that the timing puts the onus of the change mostly on PvP balance. I can't be for sure on this part, but Arena was scrapped at the same time that having full power customization was scrapped. For example, fire sword circle, with blaster powers, combined with controller powers. If you watch some of those videos, they even used those powers together. Originally City of Heroes was supposed to let you combine any powers you wanted. That obviously was changed at some point, as was the idea to bring PvP in to the game. I am fairly certain that the Devs decided against PvP and stated it would not be a part of the game after it went live. I would have to do some digging to find it, if the post even still exists at all. I was not a Beta player, but was there from the moment that it went live, and I remember nothing of the sort. Yes, they changed their minds about power selection, implementing ATs and power sets, but that was a year later, and with no mention of PvP, either confirming or denying any plans for it. Again, they would have been really shortsighted to say something like that anywhere near launch, when they were giving a demonstration of PvP at E3, about two weeks later. It was after the game went live and an occasional player would come to the forums and ask about PvP. If memory serves me correctly (and this is old memory, very old memory) a Dev came in to one of those threads and said this was not a PvP game and PvP was not going to happen. After that particular thread came out and the Dev post on that thread, any time a player came to the boards and asked about PvP, the players would chime in and tell the OP of that thread, that the Devs have already said it was not going to happen. Most often times the people who said this was not so nice about it, as they were sick of players asking about PvP and felt the question was a dead horse. Like I said, I'm sure if I tried really hard, I could find at least something that would collaborate this. However, you'll have to take it with a grain of salt, since I won't be doing all that today. :)
