  1. I will be playing WoW Classic because my son wants me to play with him. I figure if I can put up with CoH being gone for almost 7 years, I can put up with a month or so of WoW Classic until his nostalgia goggles wear off.
  2. I play an Energy/WP Sentinel, and I had to play a Fire/Regen Sentinel in order to learn what to do with it. The thing that made it click for me was to lean into +regen. Fully-kitted, my En/WP Sent has +717% regen. Yes, you read that right: seven-hundred-and-seventeen percent. My Fire/Regen Sentinel has only +666% regen (throws up devil horns). This means that my WP does regen better than my Regen. My mind boggles at the thought, even now. Add in the layered defenses and resistances, and my En/WP Sentinel is nigh unkillable, once the alpha's out of the way. YMMV.
  3. As a recovering Blaster, it was really hard to break the Acrobatics habit. Sure, I stumbled a couple of times with the Aegis and Impervious Skin globals (sexy little temptresses they are), but I got right back on the wagon. Once I did, I never looked back. I don't need those crutches any more. While the Sentinel base protection is less than that of Scrappers/Brutes, it's enough. And because so many IO sets include either status protection or resistance, that more than makes up for any delta.
  4. I choose SR over Nin simply because I prefer to "set-it-and-forget-it", instead of having more buttons to click. Nin is definitely strong, but more trouble than it's worth, to me. YMMV.
  5. One of the most common misconceptions I encounter is this age old argument about "DPS" (damage per second). There is no denying that Blasters and Corruptors (and even some Defenders) have better DPS than Sentinels -- in most cases, the math is indisputable. But my experience playing both Blasters and Sentinels all the way up to the end game is that DPS isn't the whole story. When I talk about Sentinels, I try to shift the conversation to "DPE": damage per encounter (where "encounter" means a group of mobs). When I play Sentinels, I'm fighting/blasting almost non-stop, the whole time, until all of the mobs are down. When I play Blasters/Corruptors, my combat is rarely "non-stop". My attack chains are usually interrupted by something: the need for me move to shake aggro/mitigate damage/select targets, or the need to buff, de-buff, heal, or control a target. Sure, my individual attacks have a higher DPS, but my DPS is zero (0.0/sec) when I'm kiting, dodging, moving, healing, (de-)buffing, or controlling. Additionally, I seem to need to break for endurance recovery more often with my Blasters/Corruptors than with my Sentinels, because almost all of the Sentinel secondaries include +recovery powers, while fewer of the Blaster/Corruptor secondaries do. So over the course of a protracted fight with an entire encounter, I feel like Sentinels do more sustained damage as whole, rather than the bursts of damage offered by Blasters/Corruptors. In fact, over this past weekend, my friends and I were discussing this on Discord, and one of my friends (who's an excellent team leader) said (in so many words), "I prefer having Sentinels over Blasters on my teams because they just keep going, don't go down, and don't need as much babysitting." I'm sure that this significantly varies from player to player and build to to build. Admittedly, it's hard to tell that for sure without a robust combat logging and analysis tool (similar to Recount or Skada from the WoW universe). Perhaps someone can do some experiments with the revived HeroStats to come up with some solid numbers. But until we have those, I can only report my anecdotal experience.

  10. On My Fire/Regen Sentinel (50+1 atm), I decided that since I couldn't cap either defense or resistance, I'd just lean into more recharge, recovery, and regen. I figure I'd just do my best to heal my way through the damage, rather than avoid/absorb it. I did take Hover, Leadership, and Fighting to get as much def/res as possible, but even then it's not much of those. I 4-slotted Kick and Tough for the defense bonuses in Kinetic Combat and Unbreakable Guard, respectively.   18. Defense determines IF you get hit in the first place. You don't take any damage from attacks that never hit you. Resistance determines HOW HARD you get hit when it happens. For example: with +45% defense, and even-con mob has about a 50/50 chance of hitting you at all, in most cases. With +75% resistance, when an attack that would have done -100 HP damage hits you, you take only -25 HP damage, instead.
  19. +1. I can't quite see the point in caring about this too much, because once I hit 22 and start slotting IOs, regular enhancements become vendor trash.
  20. I liked the seamless zones of WoW, having come from Asheron's Call, which was also seamless. Running from one end of the world to the other was kinda neat sometimes. I also liked the Dungeon and Raid Finder features of WoW. You don't have to spam/monitor an LFG channel: you just put yourself in a queue and are instantly teleported to the team. I have to admit that I liked solo questing of WoW better than CoH. In CoH, I always feel like I'm "alone" when I'm solo, rather than just "solo", which is a different feeling. That's not to say that I necessarily liked the quests/lore of WoW any better than CoH. Killing X of Y or collecting X of Y is just as tedious in WoW as it is in CoH. I liked playing with my family and friends, who would not give up on WoW no matter how much I asked, invited, cajoled, bribed, etc. This is still a problem, but I've just decided that they need to ask/invite/cajole/bribe me away from CoH, now that it's back. Yes, I probably will go play WoW Classic for at least a month, just to humor them. But ultimately, CoH is home.
  21. You want to keep XP on so you gain Veteran Levels. You will earn multiple Empyrean Merits for every 3 veteran levels, up until Vet level 100. You want/need Empyrean Merits for crafting the Rare/Very Rare components needed for T3/T4 Incarnates. The amount of merits earned per milestone eventually declines as you advance, with the largest numbers rewarded at the lower vet levels, descending to fewer merits at the higher vet levels. There's a document/link around here somewhere that provides the exact details.
  22. Thank you! I discovered that "/target_custom_next notmypet <target name>" works, too. I was replacing "notmypet" with <target name>, instead of appending <target name> after "notmypet".
  23. I tried that, and it didn't work. It reported that there was no object with the name of the pet I specified. Or are you saying I should've used the actual string "notmypet"?
  24. Anyone know of a way to /target a team mate's pets, other than with the mouse pointer? I routinely team with a mastermind who asks me to heal his pets, and it's difficult to do so in the heat of battle, because there's so much going on and they're constantly moving. I'd like to create a /bind or /macro to /target his pets by their names. I looked at the guide on Paragon Wiki, and the most recent Google document, but I couldn't find anything specific to targeting a team member's pets.
