  1. You already can't name a character exactly like the trademark character. The game won't let you make "Batman" or "Superman". So I assume it's any variation on that name...."xXBatManXx" would qualify. What about Bat Mon, the jamaican caped crusader that dresses all in black but with dreadlocks? Is that "variant" enough? It would be nice if they could be more specific but I think anything that could be "construed" as a comic book character that is copywritten or TMd would qualify. I'd rather not take the chance. I think I've got 4 homage characters that can be randomed. I'll change the global name when I get home as well. I also have an "imp" character that I tried to make look like the "demon" prestige pet. I'll randomize him as well in case he's too much like some IP character that some company owns. I just don't want to lose the XP/INF/IOs I've invested in already.
  2. Is this immediate? When I get home tonight will my toons be gone? Oh well...good night rocketeur....It was nice knowing you....Hello xxXXX$moldydood69XXXxx. Welcome to paragon!
  3. Possibly. I just assumed it was a kid that didn't know any better then to whine and when that didn't work become threatening as they could comprehend of doing. The fact that I was in front of the AE computer screen for that long, I figured would have given a veteran user a clue to what I was doing. 10 year olds can log in just as much as a 70 year old. But it was a lot of time spent dedicated to a troll and I never did respond to them.
  4. I had someone threaten to report me because I WOULDN'T Farm for them. <shrug> I was in AE at a terminal working on my own story mish and they kept going "hey. C'mon let me join you". I was on my fire/fire tank but wasn't actually doing a mish. Just working in AE crafting enemies and objectives. I didn't respond (mostly because I can't see the chat when I'm in AE creator). But when I got out I could see the repetitive pleas (I was in there for about an hour) and all I could think was That person probably could have gained a level or two if they had just solo'd through some story arcs in zones at their current level at that time. Instead you've been sitting in AE for an hour asking someone who is effectively AFK to do it for you. I didn't say it, but felt sad for the player at that level of...yes. I will say it..... Laziness. But then to see that they were going to REPORT me for being rude and not responding to them or allowing them to door sit was just mind blowing to me. I shouldn't be surprised. It sort of reminds me of family I have on welfare. Some of whom haven't worked in 15 years, not because they CAN'T work, but because they don't see why they SHOULD work when there are government programs that pay for everything that they want/need. One of whom openly lamented that he didn't find out about welfare and how much you can get until later in life. And he would have hopped on the dole in his 20's if he'd known the system existed back then. And after years of this it has warped their sense of reality to my perspective. They have become "entitled". If they ask you to do something (i realize I'm a relative but the attitude is there no matter who you are), and you refuse you are a horrible person. It doesn't matter if you had other plans or they could just as easily do it themselves, or it would put you in a bad position, but they went out of their way to "ask you nicely". Therefore by the laws of social graces you MUST do for them. And when you talk to them all they do is complain and tell you annecdotes about all the people who have "Wronged" them because they refused their request for favors/money/tasks when they "asked nicely". I have since learned that "asking nicely" is a form of payment to them. "I wasn't rude or tell you that you HAD to do it, therefore you OWE ME!" <-is the attitude that they have. Personally, I usually just ignore door sitter requests. If I'm farming, I'm farming to get XPs and drops to garner more INF for my other toons, or buy IOs/salvage for the base.) Tag-alongs detract from your INSP drops (making fire farming more aggressive keyboard work) AND fewer drops for yourself to cash in. If I do let people tag along it's usually people from my SG, and only 1 at a time. Otherwise It's not a very efficient use of my time or theirs. I never knew about farming in Live. But had fellow SG members back then ask me to join AE mishes to help me level. I didn't really know what was going on. Just that theywould say "If you die, you can just hang back. You don't have to keep rezing". But I was one loan terrible toon tagging along with 7 CoH Gods (in my eyes) that were literally obliterating wave after wave of lev 50+ enemies that blotted out the horizon. And I would keep rezing and dying repetitively because I thought was supposed to be also trying to kill the mobs. Since then, I learned what farming and door sitting are. And I HAVE let people farm for me (people offered and I took them up on it <-shout out to Firemaster and Thudster), but I could now tell that they are going out of their way as a solo person farming for multiple door sitters. And I can see by my XP rate and drops I get that it's got to be detracting from their gain. I've also offered to let SG members door sit and told them "You can go watch TV or do something else. Just come back every 10 minutes to see if you need to exit and switch rooms." one such individual was like "no. I feel bad leaving you, so I'm going to chat with you while you work." And even though that was nice of them to try to be considerate, I can't shoot fireballs, heal and gobble Inspires AND chat very effectively. Soo...Nice of you, but once again...not efficient. I also found out with my glass canon, If you have a level 50, you can go to Dark Astoria and get some pretty good XP/INF/Drops just street sweeping solo. I prefer to be on teams and do door mishes to soloing though. Yet if I'm level 50, I wouldn't ask to door sit. That doesn't seem like a productive use of your time. And if you're asking to door sit a low level toon to get INF to buy stuff for your 50, you REALLY aren't using your time effectively. What INF is a level 5 or 10 toon making door sitting in an hour? It can't be what a 50 does street sweeping can it? So, though I think the chat was a bit heated, I don't really see it as being particularly abusive.
  5. Not a joke. I had a person join my SG and they expressed how much they loved the base and after brief tour left them to do their thing. I went out and was crafting, but came back to the base about 40 minutes later he was standing there at the front desk having a one sided conversation with the receptionist NPC in local. It was something like "So, do what do you do when you're not at work? Do you have any pets?" And I was like..."Uh.....okay....this is awkward." I still haven't broken the news to him that she's engaged.
  6. Thanks Trauma! And thank you for the coalition help as well. That is very much appreciated. It was good but quick. It's been years since I took on the Seed, and I remember face planting doing it (we may have been a team of 4 doing it back then though). I don't think anyone dirt napped it this time. Post if you plan to do any other pre-planned raids or TFs and I'll modify my schedule to join. I announced to the Vanquishers (about 25 players) about the hamidon seed event and everyone I spoke to had prior engagements on Saturday but a few were dispirited that they had missed it when I spoke to them on Sunday. I only posted the announcement a few days in advance though, and some players don't get on but once every few weeks. I think things that garner merits or necessary for an accolade would get more motivated people. But in general the population on the Indom server seemed low this weekend. I was surprised at the quantity that showed-up TBH. Personally, I'm less motivated by the slog task forces that take hours to complete.
  7. You can hide them by: a) Mounting them to the back side of some wall light fixtures. b) if the floor is raised, you can put the beacons on the wall but below the raised level of the floor. <-this won't work if you have lowest floor level selected. c) Hide them behind/inside columns, barrels, merit machines, vending machines, cabinets, etc.
  8. I think they mean the Wentworths accessible from within base. And it's been explained in the past that it breaks things when you try to load wentworths inside of "instanced" maps. When you're out in "the zones" of paragon, everyone is accessing the singular Database of Auction House, or the one that was loaded for that zone. BUT if you're in an instanced map, it will try to load all 14 billion bid/for sale items into that instance. Now multiply that by everyone that also logs into their SG base and wants to do the same thing across the entire city. SERVER Go BOOM. Another place and time, someone said "then just change the code". Sure. Let me just rewrite the entire game from the base-up because that's basically what you'll be doing. And when they responded with "nah ah. I"m a developer and I could do it over the weekend". When they were called out on it "Then do it and submit it to the team." They got all defensive?!? FOR FREEE?!?! My time is valuable! it's not my job to show losers how to do something simple like that! They should just figure it out! I was going to rebuild a 1980 ford pinto this weekend to turn it into a 2015 Porsche 911. because that is also possible to do in a weekend!" <-yeah that guy is living the high life in his mom's basement. All of his delusions must make for great company. <Rant off> Not saying it's a bad suggestion from a player perspective (not sure how many times it has even been listed just in this thread alone). But once you understand what it entails, it's a bit easier to let that go.
  9. Some people have more dollars than sense (cents?).
  10. If you've got space, post a time and I'll join in too! And could possibly convince a couple of fellow SG members too. One of is really into the Praetorian content (though he gets on infrequently, I can shoot him an email).
  11. IMO the servers shutting down is IMMINENT! I strongly recommend liquidation. Sell all of your IOs and turn it into Influence. I will be happy to convert that Influence into more valuable prayers for you and yours. 100mil INF = 3.14 prayers. Email your influence to me for safe keeping until you can find a more stable place to park your Heroes. Delete all of your toons! Give your INF to ME! But seriously....in the words of one very plagiaristic animated old turtle: "You are too concerned with what was and what will be. There is a saying: Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift. That's why we call it the present".
  12. Announcing a super group named the Next Men?! Um, John Byrne would like to have a talk with you. (FYI Next Men #21 was the first in-color appearance of Mike Mignola's Hellboy) You should probably post in the specific server forum. Some of us probably aren't on your server.
  13. Snarky answer: It's the new AI setting. AE has seen how you play and it is putting you at the highest level that it thinks you're capable of handling. 🙂 KerPlow! Zing! Fwip! You've just been rocketeured! <-I'm trying to get that to be a thing.
  14. I haven't done the Hami on Indom since the cap was reinstated, but mostly because I've had other toon and SG distractions. I may join one this weekend (I'm not volunteering to organize, mind you). But I could be convinced to lead one of the assault teams.
  15. Even though the GMs have already weighed in on this, I get the sentiment that people still expressing their feels for the "wrongness" of seeing Clones/homages in COH and the repercussions that it may bring. But as an alternate perspective, when I see someone "copy-catting" a well known literary or cartoon figure in cosplay (even if I think in my brain that is riske', poorly executed, needlessly gory or a bit tasteless) I am reminded of the words of Oscar Wilde: "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness." Comparatively it's an interesting hypocrisy that fellow cosplayers don't seem to have a problem with someone who is portraying DC's robin as a female with her ass-cheeks hanging out and boobs popping out of a kid's sized t-shirt with an "R" drawn on with a sharpie. Nor do they comment on a little child dressed-up like a Disney princess. (these are just as arguable theft of intellectual property). But they DO seem to decry outrage or cry foul or yes verbalize "Trademark infringement!!!" when it's a cookie cutter version that looks like it just stepped out of the video game or an Iron man body armor that you would swear was made by Marvel studios or opposite end of the scale: someone who spray paints some cardboard boxes and slips their arms in to make themselves into Optimus prime. I also find it ironic when someone complains of "theft" of property but does so while displaying the image of a comic book character that they don't have rights to or the photo of a celebrity that I'm pretty sure they don't have written permissions to use as their avatar. And I tend to just dismiss that type of obvious hypocrisy without mention (but I mention it now). We all have our hypocrisies I suppose. But just like the self appointed Cosplay Police (as i like to call them), it takes me back to my school boy days where the kid across the street wanted the kids in the neighborhood to play kickball but only if he got to be the kicker and we all stood at the bases he assigned us. And if we didn't listen he would take the ball home. After about 30 minutes of being bossed around, we all just left and found some other game to play. "May you and your ball have a great time together". I really hope that kid eventually found someone to play with without bossing them around. Or maybe he's just grown up and posting on forums now about how other people's characters aren't unique enough for him.
  16. I've said it before and I'll say it again: CoX is a game of rock/paper/scissors/grenade/spear/toaster/stufffed-animal/rocket-launcher/jar of pickles/sharknado....ad infinitum.
  17. To be on the safe side, they should alter the game so that costumes and names are ONLY randomized. As someone else stated before, everything is derivative of something else. What you term "inspiration" to another person is "copying IP" even if it is just a derivation of the name they use. Now, hear me out. No more chosen costume pieces means that there is no longer a of even unintentionally falling into the rabbit hole of "that + that = Spider-dude -> Lawsuit". We are COMPLETELY covered if we can randomize the process. And prove that the game randomly grabs names from a dictionary list of available words and also randomly generates the costume pieces. The second part of this is already done by CoH! We just got to shut-off the function to change individual pieces. The name part we just need to import already existing word generator software and have it pick for us.....I don't know let's say 3 words at random for a name. We can even have it do 2 Adjectives and 1 noun. You'll be able to hit the RANDOMIZE button infinitely but the odds of coming up with a unique trademarked name will be impossible! Perfect solution! Everyone is happy! There is a party in the streets and people kissing! Old ladies stop trying to wrestle purses out of the hands of innocent Hellions! How many people are with me on this? Up vote my idea! And google "random word generator" to retroactively rename your toons!!! Sincerely, Racial New Caption (The hero formally known as Rocketeur) ***EDIT*** Now we just need o deal with the problem of people complaining: "Now that there's 1,000 character slots, people are hoarding all of the good randomized names! It took nearly 16 trillion attempts to get the name "NAME IS TAKEN" just to find out that the name is already taken!!! And that wasn't even the hard part: The hard part was spending 2 years learning perl to create the subroutine to make the randomize occur sequentially and cross-reference a name list of my choosing from SQL. And then the 11 months it took for that name to appear! Good grief, Charlie Brown!"
  18. I did say "In my opinion" in the original post. My points were: 1) Hide you get at level 1. Superior you get at level 8 and only available to 1 power set. 2) Hide w/stalker's strike can IMMEDIATELY re-hide you. 3) Hide makes you "stealthy" to just as many factions as superior invisibility does. In fact Superior Invisibility doesn't add any additional factions with it's stated extra 50 feet. 4) Neither of them allows you to avert aggroing nearby enemies if you click on a glowie. So they act the same for engagement. I didn't mention PVP, because I don't PVP (most don't) and I don't have an objective opinion on it. but Superior does give invis to 1000 ft. to other players compared to 500 for Hide. So, if you are into gacking other players before they see you...Yes. I can see for 1 purpose Superior is truly superior. I apologize for having posting an opinion and for not knowing what I'm talking about.
  19. I've seen people post on Indom. "I"m somewhere in Atlas Park. First person to find me gets 10mil influence." <- in the LFG channel. It's more "hide and go seek", but you could "imagine" it being a bounty hunt. After all, you would get a bounty if you're the first, but.....You'd also be competing with everyone else on the server that wants to find said individual. I suppose they could make it more thematic the way the word it. Just spit balling but; "Hey everyone! Word has it through underground channels that Scirocco has put a price on the head of <ME> for Xm INF. I'm in hiding for now, but you can win the bounty on my head if you just find me. If no one finds me by 0:00 GMT, Magikal will have finished her incantation to get me past the war walls. Too bad Scirocco!" You could make it a bigger build-up than that, I'm sure.
  20. Yes, but what creature in game has more than 150 feet of perception? Hide hits -150 feet at level 18. GMs and Turrets have perception to 100. Snipers are 149 feet. So....what additional things are you invisible to with the extra 50 feet that Superior Invis. gives? And maybe I wasn't "playing" Superior invisibility right as I abandoned the character when it hit the teens. But with Superior Invisibility on, if I interacted with a glowie, all minions around me attacked like I had unleashed an AOE. So, are you saying that was a bug? That you don't become visible when you click on a glowie with Sup Invis? because I apologize if I'm wrong. I think the only other things I was using were "Sprint" and I don't think that aggros. Should I have reported that to the GMs? If you're telling me that Superior Invis does let you click on glowies unfettered, AND it keeps you invisible to all around you except the mob you are attacking even if you're within perception range, I'll roll that character again in a heart beat. because that's awesome! That wasn't my experience though. So, I will admit I probably don't know what I'm talking about. I haven't played either of those ATs extensively, but I have been playing a Stalker for a few weeks and it's a pretty AWESOME power to get at level 1 (even though it's not fully powered until the late teens).
  21. It depends all on your interpretation of a "succubus". In the classic/mythological sense, it was a night terror experience where they had to touch you (melee) to drain your life essence. Thematically Dark melee: (brute/tanker/scrapper/stalker) Soul Drain, Siphon Life, Touch of Fear all seem congruent. In modern interpretations, they are red-skinned, bat-winged, thigh-high wearing dominatrices with aptitude for fire. I think it all matters on your interpretation. City of Heroes has their own "lore" so-to-speak on Succubus in the Hellion's "Girlfriend from Hell" that you can spot often in Perez Park. Where they seem to correspond to MM's. Powers: Corruption, Crack Whip, Lash, Summon Demonlings, Resistance (Fire), Fly. And the lore pet Succubus which has a fireball and fear power.
  22. Rocketeur is a unique property. The fact he gets called out for being a rocketeer "rip-off" is ludicrous. THAT character had jodhpurs. There is not even a jodhpurs option in COH. HE also didn't have Lore Pets, or a 5th column assault rifle, possessed any incarnate powers or his own hidden SG base, and I know this because I own about 150 Dave Stevens comic books and read them almost religiously. The fact that I have a full (comic version) cosplay outfit, home-made rocket pack and several custom made helms based on some movie version are purely coincidental. And neither the Rocketeer or myself (in costume) were ever punched through a time-tunnel into Paragon City. So as you can see, your arguments are completely unfounded and without any merit. And if any DEVs are reading this, I've been meaning to ask you...Can we get a Jodhpurs option in the costume designer? Thank you!
  23. You only need about 60 supers to run the zerg/hamikaze. 1 full league still might even be able to do it if it's full of DPS machines.
  24. I have to admit I've been profiting offf of the Hamidon raids on Indom recentlly. But it's become madness. With well over 100 supes the past couple of nights, the hami dies in about 30 seconds. And there's been growing ire for people that just "join the league" and then just sit on the rock and don't participate in hunting GMs or looking for/killing buds: which has now become the lengthiest part of the raid since only about 1/3rd of the people are doing that job. Some people have even voiced verbally in bcast "I don't feel like killing GMs. I'll still take the merits though. Thank you." And when you threaten to bounce them if they don't help you get the inevitable "Oh you're going to ban me from the zone?! I don' think so chief! I get the merits whether I'm in your league or not." It's time to get people off of the free merit train. The RWZ raid will also be more challenging again. Killing the Hami in a massive onslaught was cool endeavor, but I applaud the fix!
