  1. Probably has. Remember folks, @Snarky's not Holy, he's not Roman and he's not an Emperor! To address the wider concerns expressed by the community in this thread, I can see both sides. Some want to display their "origin date" proudly while others wish it to be concealed. Both choices are equally valid. Is there not a case for making that a toggle in options, to please all sides with minimal fuss?
  2. Michael Caine, Diana Rigg and Keanu Reeves
  3. I'm never in favour of a lone wolf in general play. There are very few times it's acceptable - such as hunting for a lost stray or treasure, or occasionally holding up an ambush. But if a player has such good capabilities to defeat mobs on their own, it seems more efficient to help the team defeat the mobs more swiftly - thus everyone benefits. Lone Wolves can often get too far ahead and then those weaker/less efficient players run the risk of being overwhelmed. But there's also the issue for those with lower capabilities being left out so ruining their sense of game play and leaving them feeling "why bother?" - which ultimately harms the game and player base. TL/DR: If you're good enough to solo, solo. If you want to team, team.
  4. /me looks at title /me looks at calendar Only on days with a Y in them.
  5. That's actually a very interesting question. I guess it's equally mirrored in the RIP accosting innocent bystanders for no obvious reasons. At least the obvious purse snatcher is obvious but the cop can always claim "Police Business, step back!" and do what he wilt (which in the real world has had dreadful consequences. I cite Wayne Couzens for the most grotesque example - an evil evil despicable scumbag hiding behind his badge to do terrible things is something that was all fear and in that case came to pass.) RIP is always more deadly. Most Purse Snatchers are impoverished which is why they do what they do. It's not a justification it just is what it is.
  6. Bloody hell! They work liverly
  7. I'm painfully aware of the emotions this might arouse in some of our community. I'm also aware that we can deal with being a bit tongue in cheek and we are stronger with what unites us than divides us. I don't want this thread to get political but I saw this in the Guardian (Sunday 6th Oct) and I gawped. Whilst I have never knowingly eaten tofu, and I'm unclear of what constitutes the "wokerati" I do read the Grauniad for my regular daily news and I saw this and thought of... well, actually us. It's not about partisanship other than about which side of the login screen for me. But to see City of villains (they should have given it a capital V) in a major news publication was... a bit surprising. And pleasing. We know City of Villains is the underdog. But it struck me that maybe one thing politics forgot is its people, and I hope sincerely that you all keep reading this - because there is a message here. City of Heroes/Villains still exists because of love. Love of our game our community and some of our original developers. Some people showed so much love that our game escaped into the wild and we now have a beautiful thing because some rules were broken and people power held sway over corporate interests. Communities will come together and find a way, given the opportunity and time. It won't always be a lovely garden filled with roses and kittens and there are bumps along the way. But the message is clear - we're ultimately all on the same time and we need to think more about one another than we currently do. Yeah sorry I guess I couldn't help but pontificate but I did want to share our home up in lights so please be kind to one another even when you disagree and take care of them as well as you and #ibtl
  8. Wow, @Snarky that's great. Have you had a facelift or did a wizard cast a spell to make you look 40 times more attractive than you used to be?
  9. Welcome! I just love that somebody recently discovers a two decades old "obsolete" game and appreciates it for what it brings to the genre What really amazes me is that more MMOs didn't look at CoH and say "we need to be more like this" But I guess that's their loss. I wish for the OP many countless pleasureable hours of playing one of the best PC games in human history.
  10. How can you speed run Day Jobs? 🤣 Que?
  11. I think I got 4 day job badges; Vault, MA, PVP, Base... what's the one I'm missing? I wasn't thinking of seasonal badges but I'm thinking there's a few with t he Halloween events and Valentine events and Xmas?
  12. Pocket D? I know there's a few, with the Vault, Base Entrance, PVP arena, and MA zone... plus 2 discovery badges (I think) There's also the whole Ski chalet zone. What else is there?
  13. Yes and yes! Also, what is an ostume? something an 'orse might wear?
  14. I think we first have to define what "suck" actually means in this context. Not being very good is less important than knowing your role and being able to cooperate in tricky situations and knowing your role - I'm thinking of MO runs etc here.
  15. I do now, but I didn't. That said I still don't get the rest of your response. Happy days!
  16. I'm not sure what you're smoking/drinking/snorting or otherwise ingesting but it seems to be quite fun. Got any to share?
  17. I am sad to think you felt it necessary to "lay a trap" to make a point in a different thread. your question in this one is a valid question and the previous pages show there's some interesting thoughts - all valid - regarding it. But as others have pointed out, PVP is an active choice. When you enter a PVP zone, you are given multiple warnings that you're in such a zone, other players may attack you and you proceed at your own risk. IF Group Fly came with such a warning your trap may have some merit. But GF doesn't so your argument compares apples to oranges. Let's take the following example: A novice enters the game and does not read extensively about the various power sets or zones and doesn't engage on the forums. Shocking, I know but hypothetically possible. If that novice player enters a PVP zone they get the warning as above and has the option to continue or withdraw. Even once in the zone they might find another player attacks them and can politely ask "hey please don't attack me I'm just exploring the zone and trying to discover more about the game." The opposing player may or may not oblige. If that same player forms a team and then finds one player is using GF and it's ruining their play style - they have no knowledge of Null, remember - and says "Hey do you mind?" and their request is ignored... Both your premises require informed consent. Null is merely a safeguard to protect against people who insist on using a power that others think negatively affects them.
  18. a lot depends on the scenario. If it's a single team I'm very aware, making sure I'm trying to be in the right place and getting my attacks off at the best time to add value to the overall effort. If I'm on something like an MSR, that's more of a buttonmash Leagues I'll probably pay attention to the league leader rather than my team.
  19. Tab lock is a blunt instrument. It will often target the nearest not the one you actually want to attack (the AV, for example) Just because you think something would be great doesn't mean it gives real benefit to game play and in this instance I argue it would seriously detract from it. If you add bells and whistles to a game it has to give tangible benefits otherwise it's simple bloat
  20. the problem with adding auras to weapons is that there are too many bloody auras and FX in the game already. When you have a large league in close proximity it's very hard to discern what's going on even with gfx turned down low. Adding additional auras exacerbates that and frankly adds little value to the game experience overall. Might look great when you're solo but not in large groups. I'm all in favour of more power sets. One I would dearly love to see implemented is a Rifle/Sword or Pistol/Sword combo (both would be amazing) a blunt & blade set would be very similar to dual blades in terms of animations but would probably deal smashing and lethal damage respectively. Visually I get the appeal but I don't see it adding much to the game. Pikes are largely defensive weapons and need many to work effectively as I've said before. Perhaps... if one of the powers was something like a Shiltrom or a Wall of Pikes pointing in a single direction that added a Mag 5 slow I could live with it but then you'd need something to stab your ensnared opponent with. It would take a lot of work to be viable - do the devs have the resource to put into something so niche?
  21. Avoid both and six slot Brawl instead
  22. I actually like the PVP in this game, and I've often gone into PVP zones to do some of the missions there, because they offer significant benefits in the PVE game. It can be annoying if you get ganked there but there's a simple work around: Leave and come back when the zone is empty, which is most days with a Y in them. But, if you walk into the zone, then you know what could happen. It's on you if what could happen does happen. But remember ultimately it's just a game. Nobody really dies, and the only think you will actually lose in doing it is time.
