Elec/Shield and Aid Self

Do you find investing 3 powers into getting a self heal is worth it for this build? I've tried it out through mid-lvls (~35) and it is ok, but I wonder if long-term it is necessary. At 50, I could take the Leadership Powers in addition to the fighting powers, which seems like a better fit, no? And just keep a ton of Greens on hand for when I need to heal.

Thoughts on this from your Elec/SD experience?

Thanks!

My current experience with this set is on a fire/rad dominator... the idea being aid other for imp pets and aid self for dominator.

I'm really considering dumping it because aside from the powers' lackluster / situational uses, I'm feeling I could get just about as much if not more utility from other powers that would keep me safer. Especially with the IO sets you can afford pretty easily. For instance, putting the +Absorb proc in Health... wouldn't that be as useful as Aid Self? Or throwing some +Heal procs in blasts?

The interruptible nature of Aid Self makes it not useful in a lot of fights. And if you're using it after the fight, why not just Rest? Or pop a green inspiration?

The other defensive pool powers have broader / constant use that would probably make it so using Aid Self wouldn't even be needed. Like what about taking Maneuvers? A little more defense and you're not getting hit as much, so you're taking damage that needs to be healed. And you don't even need to think about having to click the power or getting to a spot where it's not interrupted by something like Nullifier grenade aura.

Maneuvers, tough, and weave will be much more helpful once you hit 50. At the softcap keeping a couple greens on hand will be more than enough the vast majority of the time.

It’s been years but back on Live I had Aid Self on my Elec/Shield Scrapper.  I was softcapped to S/L and Melee and AOE if I recall, but still found myself needing a heal during pylons, GM’s and AV’s when soloing them.  High DEF makes doing an Aid Self fairly useful as you can heal

up without fear of interrupt assuming you aren’t taking DOT damage.

Preventative Med proc was in there also but it’s nature didn’t lend as much support as Aid Self.

When teaming though.....never used it.

I tried it on an Elec/Shield stalker. Softcapped defenses. Aid Self was not enough to keep me alive not to mention being an endurance hog *and* the interrupted heals. It works just fine either *after* defeating a pack, or against a single tough enemy where we can use the gaps in the attacks to heal up.

Basically something like this will serve you FAR better than jacking your build around for INTERRUPTIBLE Aid Self.

Imo, three power picks + X amount of slots is a lot to sacrifice to add a layer of mitigation. I recommend dropping the Medicine Pool at 50+, and taking Destiny, T4 Rebirth Radial power when you're doing incarnate content. Massive heal, 2 min uptime, regen with diminishing return over time. If you have a spare slot, add the Preventive Medicine +absorb IO into Health.

Back in the day on my fire/sd I had aid self but I was do soloing AV challenge. That means soloing the AV's  with no temp powers, no inspirations, no alpha etc Just IO's and your powers and I had aidself and it worked great for that purpose. It kind of depends on why you are taking aidself
