The build is not cheap. But it is worth it.  Insanely tough. Lot of damage. I threw all

y toys on it and that was the start if the build.  Took a few weeks grinding task forces and incarnate trials to scrape together enough to finish it.  I see no point in the future where i will shatter it for parts. The thing is near perfect

Thanks to this thread I have started a SS/Invul brute and up to 43 now. I am going to use Hyperstrike's build once I hit 50. My only concern is there a way to fit Handclap into the build? I have been using it during leveling and I like the second option (along with Footstomp) of having another crowd control option. I also dropped 2.5 mil for a knockback to knockdown and loving it.

You wont need or want handclap. You have enough recharge that Footstomp Hurl KO blow and Hatmaker are prettt much your attack chain. Once incarnated Judgement is there also

Really no one chose taunt to be tank or off tank in anything? Just wondering. i know the taunt aura is a strong one  but its not strong enough to pull mobs off teammates without taunt enhancements slotted. and even then still not reliable.

Taunt was dropped and/or never picked up by Brutes going back to their beginning. The reason was quite simple. No room on the F-ing Build.  Remember this was orig CoV. They were THE melee redside toon. No other options. Also a travel power required TWO power choices and there was NO inherent fitness.  So people did not take taunt

Lo and behold Redside teams figured out you didnt need it. Sure its a great resource. A very powerful power. Just not necessary, and since no one but Stone Brutes took it then it was practically unavailable

soooo Brutes learned to race ahead of teams like dogs in a hunt.   The goal was to jump into a fresh mob and have everyone attack you before any other team member got there. Like cannonball into a pool. What?  NO not to take agro for the team. Screw them. You needed your Fury bar fully charged baby.

like it or not Redside teams started building and using the unchangeable Brute tactic developing strategies for using their powers to make the most of an endless line of “ Leeroy Johnson!!!s”

and so was born the ROFLSTOMP redside PUG teams.

so it is not surprising that Taunt is not used in the Build because Brute players think of it as about as necessary as the fifth wheel bolted to the back of a jeep. Sure it looks cool but when the F will i use it?

and since i started as a Redside SS/Invul player i never think of it as missing. I want it on my Tanks. But i hardly even try to do Damage as a Tank. I run Tanks as melee ‘trollers with only one mez power. The best in the game. Mind control better than any mez primary. Attack me. Hard coded into the game

but Bruting?  Brute smash. Screw taunting anything. Just hit stuff. Then hit more stuff

Not especially but yes, there are things that can be done.
Just realize that you're compromising the build in other areas.

Here's a build that brings up Psi Defense a little, and brings up Psi Resist significantly.
It still manages Soft-Cap-Plus for S/L Defense and "normal game" Defenses that are respectable.
It's just not going to be the generally ultra-durable monster at high difficulty settings that other builds can achieve.

Resistance? Aegis unique, Impervium Armor not-unique

Just a matter of what you're willing to trade to get it.

Thanks, its just something I noticed as its extremely resistant to everything else but I was playing on a map with Arachnos (yes i know NW/Fortuna are a pain) and they seemed to melt me insanely fast.

I'll give your modifications a whiz and see if it improves, what is the purpose of picking Reactive Armor over Unbreakable Guard generally?

They're designed to melt you fast.
Usually, if you can survive the Alpha Strike, they're easier to deal with.
When in doubt, chuck an inspiration or two.

May I ask here my question I asked in a separate thread?

I was never great at builds. Just all the facts, figures and details get jumbled in my head. It has taken me years of gaming elsewhere to improve this much, and I am coming back to this game after a long absence. Really enjoying the input here so far by the way. Just not confident enough

I have two brutes currently low level one hero at lvl 2 and a level 6 villain. Both Street Justice/Invuln

I like the survivability angle for one and more damage dealing on the other, to differentiate. Also I have to bear in mind I am no where near 50, so must build as I level including travel powers. Any chance of a conversion of the SS to SJ and maybe compensate for levelling up?

Grab a copy of my Brute */Inv template.
All you then have to do is plug in your primary and Ancillary pools.

  • Thanks 1

Thanks yes, I am thinking just swap the Primary as is and that will settle. And just next power up at 8 I can take travel power and push the rest up for the purposes of levelling. You confirmed it here.

I would be interested in how you would increase damage output even if that sacrificed survivability. I would be inclined to look less at changing powers as the slots.

Out of interest, Sidiious how does this one do in terms of surviving and damage?

She's great. I've not died on her yet. She runs 4x8 constantly and I don't sweat a thing. I'm had her fighting GMs.... they loose.

She's one of my favorites.

I have a question for Snarky and anyone else that wants to chime in.

First I love this build, I just hit 42 on mine yesterday and I feel like I'm cheating.  It really can do just about anything.  Now on to my question:

I didn't pick up Hurl.  I never liked the power.  It takes too long and for theme reasons I opted out of it.  I picked up Cross Punch out of the Fighting pool instead, and I don't regret it yet.  It's nice to have another up close small AOE and it just looks cool.  So since I can't slot Winter's Bite IOs in it, what would you recommend to put in there instead?  Do I need Hurl to get the extra def/rest the bonuses give?

Posted

I will generally either take Hurl, or take a ranged power in my Epic pool.

You can use Universal Damage to replace some of the E/N/Ranged Defense.

With Cross-Punch, slot the three Acc\* pieces from Eradication, then Acc/Dam, Dam/End and Dam/Rech from Cleaving Blow.  Leaves you with 3.75% Ranged or 2.81 E/N.

It's all in the tradeoffs.

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

Don't bother with GA, its too pricey right now, and honestly, when it comes to dmg res, you'll be hard capped easily with UG and Tough. As far as defense goes, you can  try your best, but invul is all about res, so don't be surprised if you don't see a huge boost in your Deff all.

What do you think about this:

I slot Punch with Mako's Bite.

Cross Punch with Avalanche

And Foot Stomp Overwhelming Force +1 Brute's Fury

I like that I get a little Psi/Toxic and Ranged Def from Mako's and I get a 3% damage buff.

Thanks for the feedback, Hyperstrike.  I remember following your builds on the old forums, it's really great to see you here.

Buh...WHAT?!?!?!?

SS-Inv-Brute.jpg.140f69d7d2babf8cfd8fb8a0232796a2.jpg

Electric, Fire, Radiation.
THOSE are Resist-centric armors.

Super-Reflexes, Ice, Energy Aura
Those are Defense-Centric.

Dark, Shield, Invuln, Stone.

Those are actual hybrid sets.

Essentially Invuln, built well, is basically the next-best thing to a Stone Tanker in Granite.  Without Stone's downsides...

It's not MAXED.  That's just a fairly tough build.

THIS is as close as I've come to a "maxed" build.

Granted, THAT level of toughness is bursty.

Still, you come strolling out of a multi-megaton nuclear carpet bombing...
Danglies flapping in the breeze...
And go "I thought you said it'd be HARD!"

And everyone in the city craps enough bricks to build you a God's own ****house.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

I took Hurl because that was the way Hyperstrike built it.  Rarely used.  This is due to the amount of recharge in the build.  Not needed much.  I will say it is one of the more powerful ranged attacks available to a melee.  knock and -fly?  oh that works!  But the slow animation.  Yeah, its a niche power.

Taunt was dropped and/or never picked up by Brutes going back to their beginning.

Not true good sir.  Take taunt on all brutes going back to beta.  Lots of reasons.  In some rare purposed builds (pvp ss/elec) i took taunt and provoke.  Ranged attacks that build fury and force agro.  Agro builds fury so...

New mob, taunt, all agro on me and full fury.  Kill all.  Next mob.  Taunts not a waste its a fury builder.  Its a controll, with a proc its an aoe damage power (not much)  And its ranged.  Also good io bonuses small investment.

Taunt is a great power.  Glad you could squeeze it on.  It is one of the most effective mob control powers in the game.

Pre-inherent Fitness, back when you needed two powers to get a true travel power there were a lot of Brutes that struggled to squeeze taunt onto a build.

We (and I was in the majority) decided to instead not take taunt.  We developed a strategy of cannonballing into the new spawn and letting our taunt auras do the work while attacking.

Once you have gotten in the habit of building and playing this way it is natural to come to the realization that taunt, while powerful, is a luxury not a necessity.
