Is it possible to create a macro that triggers a power like lightning rod at the place my cursor is or on a target I'm tabbed on?

Aka any way to have the click of the power and click on the area where it will be directed all in one macro?

One option would be a keybind with a chord key and a click, such as:

/bind lshift+lbutton powexec_name Lightning Rod

then hold down left shift and click where you want to zap

wouldn't that make you have to leftshit+click to bring up the target reticule then click again to actually use it? Which is effectively the same as execution from tray

I know I have my targeted AoE abilities able to single click on my targets location on my controller. I'm not sure you can single click on cursor location though

TheWino is correct, you can definitely do this. My bind for Ice Slick is:

CTRL+LBUTTON "powexec_name Ice Slick"

I hold control and wherever I click my left mouse button (with the power's range, of course), it puts down an ice slick. I have used a macro like this for location AoE powers for many months and never had issues. Targeted and point blank AoE's should be able to be activated the same way, although with targeted AoEs you may need to mind where you click so you don't unintentionally click off the target mob.

Edit: See Vulpoid's post immediately below, I was not aware that powexec_location was a thing and that command should take care of targeted and point blank AoEs nicely (see p62 of the consolidated i25 patch notes for more info).

Will hit a specific target you have selected

this is how my powers are macro'd. Couldn't remember the actual coding of it.

you can also do location me to place the power at your feet without a mouse click.
