Force Fields! Because!

So, say you decided to make a FF Corruptor. 

Never mind that people say FF's are useless later on.  Say you wanted to build it anyway Just ta show 'em!   And it sank into the swamp. 

So you built another one.  That sank into the swamp, too. 

 

no wait, wrong skit. 

 

Real question:  If you were full-bore decided to make a FF Corruptor and the AT and secondary were locked in, what would you go with for a primary blasting tree, and why?

Probably will be a Technology origined character, so I have no thematic objections to a weapon-based blast set. 

 

I'm planning to steer clear of Water Blast however. It's a GOOD set, don't get me wrong, but I already have a Water/Sonic Resonance Corruptor, so Water/FF would a bit toooo close in style for my taste.

Honestly, the answer depends on if you plan to mostly solo, mostly team, or mix it up.

 

Solo - Dark Blast for the heal and safety

 

Team - Fire Blast.  Damage is king.

 

Mix - Dual Pistols for the versatility.  Incendiary rounds for damage, Chemical rounds for debuffing.

I'd actually 2nd DP regardless of your teaming preferences.  Incendiary works great for solo and for teams that don't need the extra damage, Chemical's -damage stacks nicely with FF's Defense for an extra layer of mitigation.

Mine is Energy/FF... because energy can be made purple to look like magic.

With water being taken out of the running, I'd go DP. You can proc out the attacks and take advantage of FF's defenses.

My main back on Live was a FF/Rad Offender and I re-rolled her here as Rad/FF.  PFF, Defelction/Insulation, Dispersion, and Bomb from */FF leaves a LOT of spots open for blasts and aux powers (Aid Self, looking at you!).

 

I also feel that Rad Blast is one of those sets that works very well for Scourge (and for slotting the ATO with the +Chance for Heal in Irradiate). Neutrino Bolt is a machinegun of a power, very low damage, but fast firing.  Proton Volley will always be one of my favorite snipes because of the PewPewPew.

 

FF with the +Def and Rad Blast with the -Def (lots of room for Achilles) and everything just works.

Yeah, Force Field is great for Rikti mothership raids, as are Sonic Resonance and Electrical Affinity.

From what I understand, defenders can easily soft cap Def. Is it possible for corruptors to do the same without it being a major pain?

You can always get a corruptor to the melee and ranged defense softcap, while also having two resist toggles (tough+epic), but often it cannot be done without it being a pain. 

 

FF and time can do it pretty easily without it being a pain however.

This was mine but FF/Sonic as a Defender. Effective, especially for teams. A bit slow for solo. And you have to like cones. I enjoy mine for MSRs
