Jawbreaker Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 My Mind/Nature troller just unlocked Entangling aura and i'm wondering how I should slot it, is it worth slotting up or is it more of a mule power? Ask me about my City Of Heroes patch problem https://levelzeroems.com/search?q=City of Heroes
Uun Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 It's really good, but you have to get into melee, which may not suit Mind. It's autohit, so no acc required. I have mine frankenslotted with 2x end/hold, 1x end/hold/rech (because it has a long cooldown if it drops), and 1x dmg proc. Makes it easy to hold bosses - once they're in the aura, just hit them with Dominate. 1 Uuniverse
Corythia Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I slot it with 4 x end/hold from the 4 hold sets. You could also proc it if you have extra slots laying around. It's very powerful, letting you hold bosses on the first hold if you are close enough to have them in your aura, then you can stack the hold at your leisure. It seems more reliable than radiations' choking cloud. It's become one of my favourite powers in the game. 1
Doomguide2005 Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 (edited) No direct experience with it or Nature but on looks alone it have to be a really cruddy mule before I wouldn't take it. It looks by the numbers provided above by @5099y_74c05to be a Choking Cloud analog which if I'm remembering correctly pulses every 2 seconds refreshing the duration vs stacking the individual holds (i.e. the mag 1 and mag 2 stack, but the mag 1 merely refreshes if the mag 1 occurs again). Not enough knowledge about procs but I'd be looking 4 basilisk (recharge) plus a Lockdown proc or full set of Lockdown for range defense (depending on my overall end use) or something similar to what @Corythiasuggests above if my end usage was rough overall. Minimum I'd go (endred plus 2 end/hold IOs). Edited December 30, 2020 by Doomguide2005 Afterthoughts 1
Uun Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 It also meshes really well with Hybrid/Control Core 1 Uuniverse
Carnifax Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Id go for 4 Basilisks Gaze just for the 7.5% recharge. Frankenslotting with 4 Hold/End is a good alternative too though (or 4 Bas and an End IO). Wouldn't bother with procs personally as it's a toggle power so it should only check every 10 seconds. Toggles aren't great for procs overall. 1 My level 50 builds [Bullitt Time : DP/Kin Corruptor] [Carnifax : Ill/Dark Controller] [Kerriae : Plant/Storm Controller] [Echinoderm : Bio/Spines Tank] [Iron Brew : Mace/Rad Brute] [Snookered : Staff/NRG Brute] [iScream : Ice/Ice Scrapper] [Binman : Savage/Shield Stalker] [Modul-8 : Time/Sonic Defender] [Concussion Blast : Fire/NRG Domi] [Orblivion : Dark/Martial Domi] [Mombie : Necro/Nature MM] [Tempore : Water/Time Blaster] [Thermodynamic Flux : Ice/Fire Blaster] [Carni's Online CombatLog Parser Alpha]
oedipus_tex Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 This is a power I'd probably skip on Mind Control, although it does have its uses. Mainly, it's not bad if you need an extra source of Containment like Mind Control does. The main downside to this power is it turns off if you get mezzed. I've been petitioning the devs to make this power and a few others like it not behave this way. It's been this way since live though. On the plus side the power is cool looking and that may be enough. 2
Force Redux Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 I'd never skip this. Huge boost to control. Makes holding bosses and even EBs much easier, combined with the ST hold. Anything in melee gets locked down. I slot it 4 Basilisk for the recharge bonus and then a lockdown +2 mag. Even as a toggle I find it goes off often enough to be useful. @Force Redux on Everlasting ----- (read my guide) ----- Gather the Shadows: A Dark Miasma Primer for Masterminds
roleki Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Unfortunately, the Hold sets were designed by a janitor or something so if you want to address Endurance and Hold using sets, you have to go like 4-wide before giving either attribute a nudge worth noticing. I usually just slot Entangling Aura with a generic boosted Endurance IO and a Lockdown +2. The Lockdown doesn't trigger often since it's in a toggle, but when it hits, it hits darn near everyone in melee. Since you're of the Mind persuasion, you don't have a whole lot of reason to go into melee, but I think EA is still worth taking on that kind of character because it amplifies holds out of your primary and frankly, it looks cool. 1 CEOs come and go, and one just went/The ingredients you got bake the cake you get

Really? Shouldn't be doing it should it? Pretty wide area + fixed 10 second "recharge" should mean low individual % chance on everyone in close? Could it be making 2 rolls every 10 seconds, one for the mag 2 and one for the mag 1? It has the same listed stats (in game under power info) as choking cloud for hold chances, so it should hold the same unless something strange is going on. Entangling aura does have a faster listed activation time, so that might make it seem a bit easier to use. Only other difference I could see is choking cloud is listed as an AoE and Energy attack, whereas entangling aura is listed as only AoE so it doesn't seem to have a typed attack type, at least on the power info listing. However, since it doesn't use tohit rolls, I wouldn't think that'd matter.

Entangling Aura is autohit, Choking Cloud is not, although hold duration for Choking Cloud is longer (7.5 seconds vs. 4 seconds). 2 Uuniverse
