Question about enhancement

I thought it was going to be the one where he's a super hero...

OP - You are asking a huge question (and a good one).  Look for threads about enhancement guides to start.  Here are a couple:

Enhancements, Inventions, and Consignments. Oh My! - Guides - Homecoming (homecomingservers.com)

New Players - Enhancements (DOs & SOs - use em) - General Discussion - Homecoming (homecomingservers.com)

Also, it might be helpful for us to know more details like your AT, build goals, playstyle, in game funds / resources available, etc.

Lastly, this game is pretty forgiving at the lower levels so you can almost get away with anything - I don't think there is any set way to do the enhancement thing levelling up.  There are many many options that work fine.  Often times I use SO's or DO's that drop just to fill some holes and get some stat boosts  - then at 50 I switch to a predetermined build.  Sometimes I play low levels without slotting anything at all just to see what I can do.

I guess I should ask, are you familiar at all with City of Heroes?  Have you played it or are you just starting out?

Recipies will drop as you play or you can buy them from the auction house.

Go to a university to use the workbenches to actually craft.  You will need the proper salvage so you will likely need to use the auction house again to purchase it.

You can also just purchase enhancements that were crafted by other players and skip making them yourself but you will probably be paying more to save yourself some time.

Supporting this, the game is forgiving enough at lower levels that until single origin enhancements (SOs) were made available at low levels most people recommended just selling everything that drops and waiting until level 22 to slot either level 25 common IO enhancements or whatever sets you had available because the don't expire, or at least get SOs at that point if you don't have any of those because the low-level bonuses are gone by then. At lower levels you outlevel the non-invention enhancements so quickly that it's not worth buying them unless you have a lot of inf handy, and training enhancements (TOs) and dual origin enhancements (DOs) have low values that aren't worth paying for. With single origins dropping at low levels, you can slot the drops and sell the rest.

As for sets.... that's a whole other can of worms and often the slotting for the "best performance build" seems counterintuitive - particularly in the case of using damage procs. For advice there, you would be better off describing how you play, what you want to do, and getting help in the AT-appropriate forum because while there is a general "this tends to work best" idea of how to build most characters, the sheer variety of options available makes it hard to quickly  summarize without an idea of what you're specifically looking for.

Based on the questions you're asking I assume you're new to the game, so my advice is to play the character with either common IO enhancements or single origin enhancements and figure out what your powers are capable of by themselves and what you want or need beyond that: the game made it a couple of years live without having inventions, and while highly recommended they still aren't essential to have a good time playing (in fact, often the complaints are that using optimized builds makes the game too easy). The threads linked a couple of posts up are a good place to start, though.

1. What do I do with enhancement from the beginning? Just buy from the store.

Generally, use ones that drop or ones that are cheap until about level 22. At 22, go to the University and work through the tutorial mission there, it teaches you the basics. Crafted standard invention origin enhancements at 22 will generally last you until level 50 because they scale nicely.

2. how do I make set enhancement? I don’t know how to make them.

You need a crafting table (the universities all have them, as well as a few other places) and a recipe. You can get recipe drops from playing, or you can buy them. You'll also need the ingredients, which also drop or can be bought from the auction house.

3. when do I start making set enhancement?

Generally, when you can afford them. Personally, I prefer to buy them off the auction house for two reasons: they come attuned, which means their levels scale automatically; and I am lazy.

There are some "special" enhancements that give you a flat effect, like the two that give you 3% defence, of the perfomance shifter one that gives you extra endurance - I'd prioritise those over getting set bonuses first because they give you a lot of bang for your buck.

While there, do the tutorial *at* The university to get an introduction to the enhancement system. (And a generic Accuracy IO at the end of it.)

You can use the command /ah to bring up the auction house.  If you prefer an in person visit then head to wentworths as a hero or to the black market if you are a villian.  If you are a praetorian,  all i can offer are my condolences.

To @seihyup kim: this, but with the addition of Wentworth's and the Black Market are marked on the in-game maps if you're going to head there in person instead of using /ah to access it.

The info on the auction house (minus the bit about the /ah command) is also included in the invention tutorial, which can be run in either Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable starting at level 10.

Prior to level 22 you can use what ever drops. At 22 you can start slotting lvl 25 basic IO’s. Level 25 basic IO’s are almost the same as level 50 SO’s, and unlike SO’s they work all the way to 50. Sure it may cost you a bit to get started, but in the long run you will save the extra influence that you would need to spend to keep upgrading the SO’s as you level.

You probably don’t need to worry about set IO’s till you hit 50. Many people respec at 50 and do the final builds with sets at that point.
