Help me please!!

Bros Ex Machina

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I need your help because I want to play a Tank to do contents and I want to have Shield Defense as primary power pool, but I can't decide the Secondary. If I wanna use a weapon I think I'll go with War Mace, but if I don't want to choose a weapon power pool, which secondary would you suggest me and why?

Thanks in advance to everybody who will help me

I'd suggest /Dark or /Rad because both have a self-heal that fills in the gap that Shield lacks.  /Dark is a 100% chance to heal on hit, while /Rad relies on the "Contaminated" effect to heal, but you get that pretty reliably.  /Rad *probably* has better AoE than /Dark, but I haven't played too much with the new "Touch of Fear" so I don't know.

If you go weapon, /Mace is a good choice, but so is /Broadsword.  /BS has Parry, which is nice because it increases your melee defense, making it easier to hit the cap.

/Martial Arts is another good choice because Storm Kick gives +def to everything, meaning its even easier to hit the def cap.  The only downside with MA is that it only has 1 AoE attack.

What this team needs is more Defenders

Mace is a solid choice for pairing with Shield, I personally would go with Fiery Melee, but I'm known to be bias towards it (see signature). Dark Melee is also very good with Shield and provides a single target heal power.

Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee.

Here's another vote for War Mace!  Best taunt in the game, bar none (whacking the shield with the mace, while watching your opponents cower in fear).

Should you go that route, here's my build for "Mace to the Face".  Near indestructible, with great AOE, cone and ST damage:

Irradiated Ground can be used as a proc AoE aura too. It's a very nice.

Yeah, Martial Arts was my choice for the +10% defense to more easily hit the incarnate soft cap. And the AoE isn't that bad with near perma-Hasten, Shield Charge, and an incarnate AoE. Not top tier by any means, but fast enough to not be painful, at least to me.

What about incarnates? This will be my first Tank so I'm really not used to them.

With Martial Arts, I went Cardiac Core for the Alpha because Storm Kick was taking care of my defense, and I needed more resistance and endurance. For Judgment, whatever you enjoy. I think Mighty Radial is fun because it's kinda like a supercharged Shield Charge without the teleport. For Interface, Reactive Radial gave me the highest DPS in testing on my specific build. For Hybrid, I feel like Shield is tough enough, so I went Assault Core for more damage. For Lore, whatever seems fun, I don't use it much. For Destiny, Rebirth Radial is an obvious choice, since what Shield is missing is a heal. But I found that when the enemy was dangerous enough that I had to hit Rebirth, it was usually because I was so badly debuffed that even Rebirth had a tough time keeping me standing, and that Ageless Radial actually did a better job keeping me alive due to the debuff resistance. Though in practice, most of the time I'm running around on Ageless Core because my survivability is already stupid good (outside of psionics), and I don't like having to be careful with my endurance when I'm spamming AoEs.

And what you guys think of /SS? You got any viable build?

I have an IO'd ss/sd and it's alright, the issue is rage crash will probably drop you out of softcapped defense as it unfairly hurts defense based toons more then resistance based toons.

That said I also have an SD/SM (shield/stone melee) and it's amazing. You can proc out fault to boost your recharge, you get shield charge back faster and can spam Tremor every 5 or so seconds when IO'd depending on your global recharge. Also strong single target and the animations feel impactful.

Yes! Shield/SS is a classic, a great paring. And, the really cool thing is you have all these slots, and all these servers to try a new Tank out on... And.. Tanker Tuesday to join to try out your new combos (yes, I know shameless plug... but hey, it's my job).

Thanks again for all the replies guys, you're helping me do much in the decision! Now, has anybody a good SD/SS build to suggest me?

I think I'll go /SS cause I'm a big fan of Captain America (watching now all the Marvel's film in the right chronological order ;)) and wanna create a toon like him and SS seems the most similar powerpool to me!
