Talk me into rolling an Ice Tank

Playing an ice tanker is a blast and I love the fact it holds agro so well and as stated one problem is it holds agro so well.  I paired it with RAD and with three auras running at once is awesome but good lord all the toggles when you add in fighting pool and such.  Compared to the others sets (granted it is still not fully tricked out) it does faceplant more then the other sets I have played.  It needs some work.  Hibernation is a nice idea but seriously as a tanker who should be always present, its is the ultimate "Please don't hurt me" power.  Unless its paired with some sort of crowd mitigation such as ice or stone, it really suffers from all the attention focused on it IMO.  I have decided to try out Ice on a scrapper.  The T9 power seems much much better.

IMHO, you waited too late. Ice armor tankers own the christmas event, which is now past. Next year..be ready.

Ha!  Yes your are correct!  So there kind of like Frosty, only seen once a year.

When I rolled my Ice/Axe tank on Live it was before the IO (and long before the Incarnate system), and he was frustrating as hell, being used to maining a Stone tank.  With no DDR, even low level CoT were a problem.  I made it to 50 (because I'm a stubborn fool who tries to never give up), but then shelved him and never played him, again.

 

I'm intrigued with ice melee, however, and may just roll a WP/Ice or Inv/Ice, instead.

My first tank/main was Ice/Axe, too. It was fun but also frustrating at times. Again it was pre IO's but now some of those holes can be plugged. Oh and I also picked super speed when we couldn't buy jetpacks. Made things very hard on myself lol.

You've got it backwards. A Fire Armor/Ice Melee Tank has those, but Ice Armor doesn't have Ice Patch, and Fire Melee doesn't have Burn.

Someone challenged me a year or so ago to make a great Ice tanker - at first I didn't think i could - until i started comparing it to energy aura and it was similar enough to where i could pull this off.  Its all about utilizing energy absorption to boost defense and balance the def holes with resistances.

 

Yeah Ice/Ice pairs really well together - I am sure some of the responses to Ice Armor in here are warranted, buy my experiences with my Ice/Ice are top notch and i don't play the squishy game.  In fact my Ice build is one of the most durable builds I have - It has great defenses balanced by resistances that fill the holes in the defense.

 

It also has slows, controls, damage debuffs and excellent aggro control.

And my experience with Ice Armor on Live was...let's just say "less than enjoyable".  After reading more about Ice and cobbling together lots of variations and combinations, I came up with AVALNCH.  Ice/Stone.  He's a hoot and nearly unkillable...  No EA, no ATO, no procs, no incarnates:

Ice tank with Ageless Radial is super fun. I’m currently considering making a second one because tank addiction. May not be an offensive powerhouse to the degree of OP meta favorites Bio/Fire/Rad/Shield, but looks super cool and absolutely no shortage of mitigation.
