ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 Thoughts so far: Spoiler Ah, some colour and contrast. My old eyes thank you. DAYUM. Didn't waste any time with the reboot, did they? At least it was Foggy who got fridged, although Karen's been sent to Tahiti SF. Given her arc, that may not bode well for that character later. That Heat diner scene. They wanted it. They workshopped it. They trailed it. They nailed it. Do we believe Fisk is a Man of Honour in his own way? Nice casting to see Mike Gandolfini showing up in this. (I liked Many Saints). Get the feeling the Vanessa/Wilson relationship is going to be a major theme going forward and drive some of the action/reactions/rage outbursts. Bloody influencers. Get the feeling BB's going to annoy me. And, yes, only the finest violence. Looking ahead at the drop schedule: This show was originally planned as a full 18-ep series. But with D+ cutbacks... there's a need for new content drops in 2026. So the first 9 eps will be "Season 1" and a back eight as Season 2. Not sure what happened to the other one. There's also a mid-season double-drop. One of the fun things you can do with streaming - and I'm pleased that D+ see you can do - is if there's a story beat that runs too long for a single episode, you can break it into two halves and let people choose whether to watch one at a time or binge through. 1 WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. Look out for me being generally cool, stylish and funny (delete as applicable) on Excelsior.
Voltor Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Enjoying the series so far, it is a nice resumption of the story from the Netflix series. Now if we can get Season 3 for Cage..... 1 25 alts with all the badges!
Trike Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I thought the first two episodes were a solid continuation of the previous series. That shocking twist at the start of the series is either a terrible mistake or a definitive “throw down the gauntlet” moment. Time will tell. The way they handled White Tiger seems to imply he was previously introduced elsewhere, probably in the Echo series, which I haven’t seen. (Is this how normies feel when watching MCU stuff? 😆)
El D Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Not sure how many folks here are keeping up with Daredevil Born Again, but as of the latest episodes (5 & 6) it seems like a fantastic continuation of the Netflix series. Every article claiming Disney Marvel was going to water things down - level of violence, religious content, dialogue, fight choreography, even the presentation style - seems more and more unfounded. It's possible a lot of that is due to the revamping the show went through to get the main actors back on board and happy with the direction of their roles and the series, but I'll happily accept 'it's good due to course correction' over 'they were stubborn and it tanked.' Slight spoilers - Spoiler IMO they'd deserve kudos for running with the Punisher fanboy corrupt cops storyline alone. That is not something I ever expected from them but I'm so glad we're getting it done right, where Frank absolutely hates these guys. Global is @El D, Everlasting Player, Recovering Altaholic.
Ghost Posted April 17 Posted April 17 (edited) Finished watching the entire series over the past couple of days. There were things I liked - the action sequences. The fact it didn’t seem too long, unlike the original Netflix series. I always thought each of those seasons could have been split in half. Also liked the overall story. What I didn’t like The Muse storyline seemingly being a side quest. It seemed like they were building it up to be much more important than it actually ended up being. After the hints, foreshadowing and slow build, I certainly didn’t expect him to be dispatched in like 2 episodes Anyways, I definitely can’t wait for the next season. Edited April 17 by Ghost
Hedgefund Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Spoiler As someone that basically stopped reading comics full stop about, oh let's say 10 years ago (may be a little more, may be a little less) I didn't know Muse at all and I was really looking forward to getting to know a character I knew nothing about whatsoever, which has been very rare (Echo is another one). So I too was disappointed with how he ended up. His origin was ridiculous - he took some lessons in jiu jitsu (whatever it was) and with that he can go toe-to-toe with Daredevil? I might find the back issues with him, the summaries I've read make him sound interesting and an actual threat to DD. But I'm not here to crap on the series, quite the opposite, I really liked it. Apparently the new creative team did E1, E8-E9 and the old team did the ones in between, with some reshoots from the new squad interspersed. There was a clear delineation between the different teams, the replacements, from the old Netflix series, made much better episodes. Props to Feige for stepping in here and making a change. Last episode was a banger and I'm really looking forward to S2. 1
Octogoat Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Y'all are making me want to see this but I've got too many streaming services ATM and not about to give up my britbox.
Excraft Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I've been pleasantly surprised at how good this was. I'm looking forward to more. Definitely worth watching.
InvaderStych Posted Saturday at 10:19 PM Posted Saturday at 10:19 PM (edited) Finally had a moment to catch up and finish this one. Solid, even if the "dark" scenes were still, with some exceptions, lit too high-key for my taste. Every conversation between Frank and Matt is pure gold. Especially their first encounter in this series. Easily the best dialog scene in the entire run. Ep 8. I did not see that coming. Even Red isn't sure why he took that bullet for Fisk. Yes, Poindexter's line about how a "good man defends their enemies" (paraphrase) foreshadows it, but still, it was a surprise. A very good one. Gandolfini Jr. living up to his name in the later episodes was a treat. Great arc for this character. I could probably go on with comments, but suffice to say I'm looking forward to more of this one. And if rumors are true about a Punisher One-Off, I'm 100% in on that. Bernthal has always been pitch perfect in that role, and still is. Edited Saturday at 10:21 PM by InvaderStych Spelling fix, even it is still probably wrong. :D You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.
