Most will say ss. I hate it so i'll say stone. Took a lot of mine from one of @Spaghetti Bettyolder builds:

I would say a set with some added survival like Crowd control/buffs.

 

Battle Axe, Ice melee, MA, Katana/BS, Staff, stone TW, WM, SS for example. Lots of choices there. Of those i would pick BA or Ice i think, but that is just my choice as all will work.

...I posted a /WP Brute somewhere?  Oh man, my attention span is smaller than I thought. I only have an StJ/WP Brute, and it's been due for a respec for awhile now.

 

Either way, pretty much any clicky set is gonna feel better paired WP due to how non-interactive it is. As @Gobbledegook said, my top 3 would be Axe, TW, or Stone, but I also wanna give an honorable mention to Claws.

 

While Claws isn't nearly as strong of a contender on Brutes as it is Scrappers, that doesn't mean it's strengths still don't exist. Lightning fast buzzsaw attacks, 2 great soft CC moves in Focus and Shockwave, and low endurance cost. And with WP you can just activate your toggles and swing all day.

Stone is good, good stuff, especially on a Broot.  But I've played a Stone/WP and I'm not sure it's the best combo for the two because /WP doesn't really shore up Stone/'s lack of AoE very well.

You're in luck. Not long ago a very dedicated player tested a bunch of melee sets and specifically used WP as the control for the testing. And even posted builds.

 

Click the link to this thread. In the top post click the link to download the Excel spreadsheet. From there, look at the top of the Brute chart and click the link for the Brute SS/WP build.

Yes and WP also falls pretty hard to -DEF and -Regen, but this thread is not about what mobs make WP look bad.

39.23% Energy Defense, 4.95% -ToHit if it's in melee range, 120 Endurance, 5.28 end/s (a Recovery pulse every 1.13s) on my Staff/Willpower... sappers aren't a real problem, they're free XP.  It's the Gunslingers you have to worry about.  Four firing Liquid Nitrogen Rounds will mez you, at which point you lose the benefits of Rise to the Challenge just long enough for the rest of the spawn to use your face as a toilet brush.
