Friendly Fire - Power option

Recommended Posts

similar to wild kingdom:

  • it could be a simple as tranquilizer dart that causes "tiny birds to encircle around the 'leaders' head."
  • each teammate gets one shot available to them to "add another tiny bird"
  • so up to 7 tiny birds flying around leaders head.
  • would be good fun.

So what do these "friendly fire" powers actually do?  Do they just make "tiny birds" appear around the target's head?  What would be the point?  If you wanted to force some kind of emote on someone else, and since it's being done voluntarily, just have the target enact the emote when so ordered...

Here's the problem with this idea. I've been in some pretty toxic gaming groups where people liked to make life as annoying as possible for various people. In one such group, their focus was on the team leader because he was trying to actually get us through the adventure the GM had us playing through. At least there we had a GM that could tell them to knock it off. The OP would enable such behavior in this game. Using a tranquilizer dart on your team or league leaders, stunning them for the sake of imposing a cartoonish tiny bird circling their head, can be used by players to stun their team or league leader even in combat. (Unless it was a resistible effect and they have a high enough mez resistance, but then players trying to use it will complain that it doesn't do anything.)

(Edit: For clarification, they stopped when the GM told them he was going to kick them out of the gaming group if they persisted. So no, the GM didn't just let them keep doing so.)

Frisbee and Snowball exist already. (As do the arrows of romance/jealousy, which at least give a friendly target a buff.)

Frisbee and Snowball at least don't have tranquilizer dart effects.

Never said they did. But if someone wants to throw something at a teammate, these exist already without being (too) troll-y/disruptive.

friendly fire power for use on team leaders and league leaders.

for use "only when they need it."

Hey @Snarkylooks like some competition for a god-awful PuG teaming story.  So do tell Shortguy what inspired this post?

Sorry about the vivid similarities to a particular experience which this idea has brought up.  Not my intention whatsoever.

Yes exactly, everyone in game already 'has/or can get' access to them.

But it does not mean you are required to use them, right?

So, can only reply to the 2nd part of the question:

  • inspiration:  just to have fun
  • additional inspiration:
    • leaders do not always do the correct thing,
    • blunders are ok (we all make mistakes).
    • the friendly fire power is envisioned for the variety of these particular types:  arrogant/egotistical/narcissistic  those who fail to realize that the game is supposed to be fun and enjoyable

Attempt at part #1:

  • For me:
    •  some of the most awful PuG teams which I have led or been a part of became some of my fondest (and most fun) memories of the game.
    • when i'm on a "good" team, i consider it as such: are typing jokes/razzing each-other/ and lol'ing.
