I dunno. The general audience knows who Superman is though. He's been around for almost 90 years. Every variation of his origin story and exploits have been told in every medium that can be consumed to every generation multiple times over.

They also who Batman is, along with his backstory - yet they still seem to find ways not to turn Batman movies into full blown ensembles.

Sorry, but this is a new version of Superman.  I want to learn about this version.  I want to see the world established.  I want Lois to be something more than someone who just shows up whenever it’s convenient.

I also want to learn about this Clark.

Instead, we will have to learn about the new heroes and villains.  Who they are and what their motivations are.

IMO it takes away who this version of Clark/Superman is.

Does this mean it will suck? Of course not.  It could be the greatest superhero movie ever made (although that’s not what the recent test screening is saying).  It just won’t be the greatest Superman movie ever made.

I dunno. If you're referring to the most recent Matt Reeves version - Batman, Alfred, Catwoman, the Riddler, the Penguin, Jim Gordon were all in the movie and were all played by major actors. How many does an ensemble make?

Alfred and Gordon belong in any Batman story.

I don’t have an issue with 3 villains in a movie.

What I have a problem with is 3 villains plus 5 heroes.  Especially when it’s the movie that is supposed to be establishing Superman’s world.

A comparison would be to have called the Justice League movie…..Batman

Personally, I am 100% over the “here’s this solo superhero, yes other superheroes exist but this movie won’t reference or involve them at all, except at the very end where someone makes a cameo to show you how this world is interconnected”. Just, no.

We have 0 idea how much screen time the non-Superman heroes are going to have. I know “wait and see” is anathema to a lot of people, but what if we tried it just one time.

In general, I agree.  The problem is that, (at least from my perspective), we really haven't gotten to a point where we've moved beyond the "Batman has Gotham, Superman has Metropolis, Flash has Central City, and each stays in their lane, until a truly world-ranging threat appears", phase of any DCEU;  They try to put the cart before the horse, and essentially sabotage themselves - Give each character enough, well, "character" to stand on their own, and only once each is well established, should you start doing crossovers.  instead, they want to rush toward that promise of a $1 billion blockbuster...

The problem here is that Gunn is working against not one, but two cinematic continuities, both with some horrendous stinkers clogging the pipes. DC movies have established that these characters exist in their own cities in the last 10 years, for better or worse. (Mostly worse.) He's not really buying himself anything by pretending that the world he's working in is NOT already populated the way first superhero movies tend to.

Despite all the turds DC flushed into theaters in the last few years, Gunn somehow made Polkadot Man vs. Starro work, and work *WELL* in the last Suicide Squad movie. He made Rocket Racoon work for not one, but THREE films. We *all* wept for Rocket in Guardians 3.

I'm willing to let him cook with whichever characters he thinks he needs to make a non-Snyder Superman movie work.

So if we're to believe the news out there, test screenings haven't been faring well for this.  I'll remain cautiously optimistic, but it certainly isn't sounding too good right now.  They still have time for changes though.

Oh, I'm fairly certain that this film is going to end up in the DEI dumpster fire, right alongside most recent movie releases.

Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.

Knowing Fillion's sense of humor, he probably was on board with the bowl cut from the start.  I'm puzzled by the color though.  Guy's supposed to be a deep auburn.  Perhaps it's just this clip but he looks more like a blonde, and if it is a strawberry-blond, they need to buy more strawberries.

New extended sneak peek. Krypto is so on point for how a dog would really act. Also, how considerate big blue is during the scene in the fortress. That's the Superman we need, the all around good guy with a heart of gold. Save the brooding for the bat.

They've got Krypto and they've got the fortress droids.  This is indeed looking so on-point.  With Guy Gardner present as well,  I wonder if they'll reveal the Eradicator in the fortress as well? (Guy and the Eradicator interacted in the "4 Supermen" storyline from the early 1990s.)

Sure is! Quite the hidden cast on this one, looks like we'll get to see Alcock's Supergirl and Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard? Nice!

Well it's definitely better than the brooding, sullen Superman in the Snyderverse.  I don't know if the pendulum has swung too far to the other extreme now though.  Wait and see I guess.

And I'm noticing three notable character actors in roles I would not have foreseen for them:

Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason (who of course is...IYKYK).  I thought Carrigan was a good fit for Victor Zsasz in Gotham.

Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent (loved him as the penny-carrying guy of Heroes: Reborn and the slave-driving miner of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5.

Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord.  I like Sean's work on Guardians of the Galaxy.  Lord is just not something I would have seen him in.  I am therefore curious.

My jury is still out regarding Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.  I like Hoult, it is just that I tend to see Luthor as a character with a level of gravitas, for lack of a better description, that I've not seen...yet...in Hoult.  I look forward to being surprised.

I just want Superman fighting an actually menacing and formidable Lex Luthor - not some goofy comedic version, (as much as I liked the Reeves Superman movies), and not the weird creepy manic version from BvS.  Bonus points if they can pull off Luthor's power armor, (again, without it looking too silly)...

It's animated, but I always thought the Clancy Brown-voiced Luthor of Superman: The Animated SeriesJustice League, and Justice League: Unlimited was pretty close to what Luthor should be like.
