Fighting Adamastor on a dark brute.
I just got slapped off the platform, with the red words "Begone" flashing across my screen.

This made me laugh chuckle. While I detest getting knocked about, that was pretty funny. I wish I'd been able to screenshot that to share, but my fingers were too slow.

COXs version of WASTED

My Dear you deserve the services of a great wizard but youll have to settle for the aid of a second rate pick pocket

~Schmendrick

So you mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword; and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

The sad thing is, I have 14 pts of kb protection, but his "Begone" must be more than that...yeah, at least mag 20, if I interpret this convoluted formula properly.

City of Data would be so much more useful to me if variables were clearly defined.
The power doesn't seem to be an AoE, so not sure why the variable is worded that way, but sometimes, when you have to come up with unique variable names in a program, it can be a chore when there are probably a thousand or so other more appropriate names already used by other objects in the program. At least, that's my guess.

You work in 14 pts of KB protection and STILL get tossed.  Now that is embarrassing :classic_laugh:

I think I first noticed "begone" when I tried to solo him on my beam/traps Corr when the GM changes were only on test. I got a giggle out of it as well.

That "variable" is a modifier.   It allows power effects to scale differently depending on what AT is using them and at what level.  You are looking at the power with "None" selected for the "Show for AT" field.  Here's what it looks like when you select "Boss Monster".

This is likely some requirement of the game engine that everything has a magnitude and a modifier.  Which is probably why "melee_ones" exists as it's just a modifier whose value is always equal to "1".

In any case, don't feel bad.  Half the time even those with built-in knockback protection and resistance are going for a ride because of that child effect, which is tagged unresistible and is, lol, 9999 Repel.

I have never been KB by Ada.

Adamastor can BEGONE! Acid Mortars, which have a 100 point KB protection, IIRC.

I'm guessing that must be the 9999 Repel then because 100 points KB should have done it for the KB component.

at least he didn't slap you down with a "Jranger"

But on second thoughts there's a badge there somewhere

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

As the one who created BEGONE!...

I actually had no idea it can do that. That's hilarious. It stays.

BEGONE! is one of those effects where Adamastor has to hit when it uses the attack, so I can easily believe it would have been hard to notice this.

As an aside: there are some pretty weird game engine effects with knockback (and/or repel), so I don't recommend adding it willy-nilly without testing. Specifically, Mastermind Henchmen.

What I've observed with (Robotic) Henchmen is that certain Giant Monsters that do Knockback (and/or Repel?) can put the henchmen into a sort of "locked in place" position, usually in a ragdoll pose, where they won't move or respond to commands, and the also can't be summoned by Assemble the Team. (Usually a henchman acts this way when it is trying to resolve an animation or power).

The easiest way to replicated this is with a Halloween event (old school) Eochai, and have Group Fly toggled on. Group Fly doesn't need to be used, but I think it increases the possibility for "vectoring" resolution of knockback/repel paths; it is far less common if the henchmen are all on the ground. If Eochai gets off one of those KB attacks (I think it has an auto-hit power) some of the henchmen are likely to end up in this peculiar state. FWIW, nuEochai's Pumpkin Patch doesn't seem to do this.

Begone has made Adamastor fun again.  Too bad he's relegated to an Echo zone.

He does have all the new attacks when encountered in the Blue side missions.

He can appear in the Minds of Mayhem trial. If that uses the new versions of GM, the trial has become more...interesting.

This power is genuinely hilarious, and it's one of those mechanics that is super interesting when fighting Adamastor normally or playing on small teams.  It's also completely irrelevant to my GM Soloing Illu/Traps, because this power works the same way on PA as every other GM power: it does nothing LOL.

Treating everyone fairly is great; unfair discrimination is badwrong!

I do not believe the false notion that "your ignorance is just as good as my knowledge."

Muthafuck! I thought this only happened to my Dark/Super Tank.  Knock is a problem for me already and I only have Steadfast Protection slotted.  Adamastor had just done his hp drain and the next thing I know is SLAP!!  Everyone on the platform went Damn, by the time I got back the fight was over.
