Snarky Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 if vidiot maps were part of CoH, (maybe optioned at Gull or P2W?) then all us non tech people would not be screwed by 5+ years of alternate versions of how crap was loaded into our systems by third party "suggestions" as it is my Atlas map now has no markers, one of my PvP maps is sideways, and Cim is just F-ing off. 2
Greycat Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I mean, that'd depend on the person who makes it wanting to do it for starters... But Michyo's City Mod Installer 😄 takes care of that "which version?" pretty well. (If anything, I'd say *that* should be part of, or at least somehow linked to, the launcher.) Super Atom Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 If your goose is cooked, try a fresh install and just re-adding latest versions.

Jacke Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Considering the effort that @Cobalt Arachne did putting in the Exploration Badge Tips, I'd say that VidiotMaps won't ever be a default part of the Game. However, the modding environment could be added in as default, beyond just the data/ directory tree, but making assets/mods/ default for loading .pigg mods. That would make things a bit easier. Snarky Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 Well i suggested it. That is what this forum is for. I will not keep posting not stop in here (probably…). Not my style. My style is more “not my problem until it inconveniences me, rant and scream, wander off…”

There are easily downloadable map overlays with seasonal stuff like Halloween GM locations, Xmas presents etc that can be added or removed at the click of a button. And while i have you captive, may I recommend double loud glowie!! It's awesome 1
Riverdusk Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Alternate suggestion, randomly move all the exploration badges around every few days. Just kidding, don't hurt me. 2

Today i did a lot of badging on my new toon. All blue zones except Hive. All Praetoria. Some Red. Gonna try to knock out a few more. Relying on tips how long do you think that would have taken me? Sure. Less than years. But longer than a couple hours? Yeah. O yeah.

I average 5-6 minutes per zone doing it by setting the map to maximum zoom and manually dragging it around to find a badge, then right-click on it to set a waypoint. I'm willing to bet that the time it takes to open the Contacts list, click a badge tip and accept the mission (which automatically sets a waypoint at the badge location) is within 1 or 2 seconds of the time it takes me to do it my way (and i'm even leaning toward it being faster, since exploration tips are always placed at the top of the list, and the dialogue window can be dismissed while traveling). I'm also willing to bet that the reason you've convinced yourself that tips are slower is because you're a stubborn, crotchety old fart... just like me. And that's fine. But this is one of those things that you should at least test before pouring a cement slab over the conclusion. Try it before you deny it. 1 Get busy living... or get busy dying. I sort of have the elevations on shadow shard memorized. someone told me the "optimal badge path map" is better for that because clickable objective? or diff color elevation markers? forget which. But trying to do Nova with 8 loc badges, 5 wall plaques, 6 monuments, and 8 river markers based on "tips" would have me vampire biting my cape in frustration... 1

To be fair it would me too. and the plaques and river markers don't have tips 1
tidge Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 IMO: The Exploration Badge tips are fine, and a cute addition to the game, but only for the zones which have them, and when I don't allow them to clutter up my tip window. There are some other subtleties with the tips that don't "solve" all my personal issues (e.g. the mechanism is slightly buggy) but my issues with the exploration tips are not greater than whatever issues I have with the vidiot overlays. Personally, I'd prefer something like the vidiot overlays showing markers as a default. It's not because I don't value the new tips, it is because I use those markers even after any given character has gotten the badge/clicked the plaque.

You'll still have 3 Exploration Tips once you're done on Zones you've explored. You may want to clear those Tips. 1 Remember! Let's be careful out there!
