Is fire farming still a viable way to power level new toons?  I’m reading guides that mention this method, but also see notes about it being nerfed so not sure what’s accurate.

It is still viable.  The "nerf" you're likely talking about was requiring AE enemies have more attacks in order to grant full XP, as well as enemies beyond the aggro cap still attacking the character, only from range instead of closing to melee...

I don't think AE still grants full XP. I went from hitting Level 21 in a single run through and then hitting Level 17 post XP change. YMMV for how you want to power level these days. Farming might still be one of if not the most effective ways for power leveling, It's just not what I do as I care about fun.

From my understanding, the AE used to erroneously apply an extra +X1 XP, (so if you had the 2X XP on you, you'd actually get 3X XP).

Fixed a bug with Experience Boosters granting too much experience in non-Dev Choice AE missions. 1.5XP was giving double XP and 2XP was giving triple XP. These have been corrected to the intended 1.5x and 2x, respectively

Yes.

There are better options for more experience but the concentration of targets in AE can be tough to beat.

  • A character that has accrued Patrol Experience will receive a 50% boost in XP until the Patrol XP runs out.
  • The START vendors in Atlas Park, Mercy Island, and Nova Praetoria offer various experience boosters as a gift from the game developers
  • Certain temporary powers

As others have said, it is, but maybe also consider joining an MSR when you can, as well. You still gets lots of XP, and you get to play the toon a bit, too, so you can try it out.

I don't have much to add, but I'll do some coloring (outside/inside) some of the lines shared above. Mileage may vary.

Re: Patrol XP I find this to be more valuable at higher levels than at low levels. There is a "cap" for how much Patrol XP a character can take advantage of at any one time. I don't think this matters very much for a dedicated power-leveler; the time it takes to accumulate Patrol XP could just be spent in the AE. Logging out in Day Job locations will also yield Patrol XP.

Collecting Patrol XP from exploration can also yield merits (for collecting all in a zone), although not all exploration badges (e.g. Pocket D, Ouroboros) count towards a merit reward. There is a minimum number of exploration badges required for the Long Range Teleporter accolade.

Re: Mothership Raids (instanced I supposed are best for low-levels) offer league XP, but IMO it is generally better for everyone involved if characters involved have (slotted) attack chains. Personally I find these to be best for accumulating Incarnate XP.

Certain other seasonal League events (Mapserver in April, Trick-or-Treat in October) are easy XP in which nobody really cares what level characters are once enough 50s are in the league.

If the focus is only leveling as fast as possible, I don't think anything will surpass AE Powerleveling. 1-50 in 3-4 hours if it's just the farmer and the lowbie on the map. It's been a while since I've done that but I think it was 16 or 17 runs of the tunnel farm.

Logging out anywhere yields Patrol XP, whether the Toons in a Day Job volume or not.

I think the XP is good if the AE farm is built with or after "page 5" changes. I can't what exactly that means but I believe it means the mobs have been adjusted to once again grant more XP via attacks and whatnot.

I do know the map I run is large and takes about an hour to solo and if I have one lowbie in there they'll be in the 20s before I'm done.

Edit:

Also I've leveled fairly quickly, and it was definitely more fun just by running TFs. Just have to have enough inf on you to keep up SOs upgrades until 27. But run DFB, then Posi 1 & 2, etc...

If you don't want to go through the lengthy process of levelling a fire farmer to 50, getting incarnates, and geting IOs, your second best option is to just run task forces starting with Positron and going all the way to Numina, then doing ITFs from 35 to 50. You're going to want to do all the TFs anyway to get the Task Force Commander accolade.

I've done it and I've gotten my blaster all the way to 40 in a single night. The caveat is you have to form the task forces yourself. Don't wait on others to do it.
