There's a Hero tip mission where you break into an Arachnos base, rescue a Longbow agent and then have to lead her back to the exit while waves of Arachnos come after you. She's an indestructible escort with combat AI. What could go wrong?

I remember getting the 17 storey Arachnos map for this once, and she was spawned down the bottom by the glowing green pool. Trying to lead her up the ramps without her jumping off to try and target a flying drone or other enemy was an absolute nightmare. I think I'm still buzzing on the endorphin hit from finally getting her out of there. 😄

Oh... I always thought the "cake room" was the one with the open center with each level kind of shaped like a ring. Like a big hotel atrium.

It is. For the generic 'blue tunnels' map blocks, that room has several levels of rocky floors ringing the outer walls. For the Council/5th maps, that room has three floors of pool basins. With each one, the additional geometry makes the room feel different, even though the the shape of the outer walls of the room are the same for both.

Some of the matches between the Council/5th and blue tunnel map blocks are easy to see; others have enough visual clutter from the additions (whether Council structures or rock formations) to make them hard to match between the two sets.

Since we're sharing, I'm with Scarlet Shocker on this one. I appreciate Triumphant's honesty but chile, it's called "Homecoming" for a reason. Don't bulldoze my home, pretty please kthnxbye 🙂

When you are older you may experience the pain of returning to old places you lived and finding them converted to a Walmart parking lot. Or you may not. I know in what we laughingly call real life, change is inevitable and way must be made for the folks coming up, but in this digital space I don't see why there can't be one place I can return to and recognize it for as long as it's there and I am able.

Honestly though, I can still relate to and understand players having strong nostalgic ties to a beloved game and not wanting that experience to be damaged.  It's just odd (and, I guess, a little funny) to me that the numerous major changes the devs have made to the game (huge changes to costumes, a new archetype, many new power sets, lots and lots of alterations to legacy AT's and powersets, switching an entire neighborhood- galaxy city- for Atlas as the starting area, free base building with not pvp base assaults, easy (and early access to movement powers and telporting quickly via LRT, and so on), but this one thing- making some maps less annoying to traverse, is the thing that is the breaking point for you.

.....

Actually, speaking strictly for myself, I never said I  co-signed, approved of or liked any of the changes the Homecoming Devs have made... nor that changing the maps was a breaking point. It isn't particularly. I like some of the QoL changes like bases being detached from prestige and free to build since I mostly solo and I have SGs for my alts. I like getting travel powers earlier... but it's not a make or break by any means. New power sets? Some are nice. Some are eh (for me). And some of the changes the HC Devs have added are very jarring to me and I actually don't like them, but I'm still extremely grateful for their dedication to getting the game up, open to us the public and available to play for free (or a voluntary monthly contribution, which I try and make when I can catch it in time). There's still enough of the CoH I remember to make it a Homecoming. But when random discussions are had about this 'n that, I sometimes (actually only rarely) may express how I feel about specific things someone may have posted.

It doesn't mean anything dire. 🙂 I generally climb back under my rock (or plushy throw) afterwards and return to occasionally posting cat memes for the next while.

Any room or hall too confined or cluttered for me to use a 3/4 overhead camera angle from more than 1 foot away from a character is on my hate list. Because how dare I want to see what the heck is going on in a fight.

Also, the "sticky" wall torches in orangebagel can go right back to hell, after stepping on all the legos.

The earlier comment about the early map design feeling like old school FPS maps is spot on - the problem is no one but psychopaths play the game in first person for any significant period of time.

New maps that aren't warcrimes against the camera would be appreciated. Maybe with a mission generation option toggle so that the masochists that enjoy the old maps can still go there to ERP about how much they enjoy taking a Whirling Mace to the nards too.

The tight corridors make travel powers and movement, my favorite aspects of the game, feel anywhere from frustrating to useless.

That's the reason, early on, that I complained about auto powers that grant an always-on speed boost. There's one in Super Reflexes, and one in Electric Armor, off the top of my head. In many cave maps it would be beneficial to be able to slow down a bit, but you can't. Ninjitsu has one that's a toggle, so you can turn it off, but then you give up the other benefits of the power.

It's not a room, but my least favorite mission is the one where you get dropped into a giant industrial open-air complex, and have to find bombs and rescue civilians. And there are more nooks and crannies than an English muffin, and none of the glowies make any sound!

I think you're talking about the Waldorf Factory map? There's one on that map that I always autocomplete because it's a "defeat all" mission featuring Primal Earth clockwork. So you have rusty clockwork wandering around a structure of rusty metal, effectively camouflaging them and rendering them next to invisible. I would always end up defeating all the clockwork that were standing around in obvious places, and then flying around and around and around and around the central building, spamming my TAB key in hopes that it would light up that random clockwork that is stuck behind a bunch of pipes halfway up the building ...

Or are you talking about the map that is used in at least one redside mission, which has the distinguishing feature of a statue appearing in the distance that is not actually there in the non-instanced open world?

I know the pain.  And especially that of the obstacles that we always hang up on in the various hallways we traverse.  Or the big open maps where we've got to do an MMO "Where's Wally/Waldo" (a target keybind that can be editting to have the name of the silly target helps here).

A moment of thought also had me remember that the standard keybind for 'V' is "+ctm_invert":  Hold down 'V' and your Toon will move to that spot.  I very rarely use it.  But perhaps I should use it more.

Remember!  Let's be careful out there!   SAFETY NOTE:  If Leader not on Map holding the Mission  Door, First Toon through the Mission Door will set Notoriety.  Hold until Leader on the Map!

See if you can't tell by my avatar, it's against my religion to turn off super speed, so I just become very intimate with every wall and obstruction, its still faster.... probably....
