Dug thru the archives and found the build Plainguy used back in the day. He seems to have been one of the guru's on MM so to speak and I was wondering if this was still a viable build, thank you.

I didn't even open the build since what I've got to say applies pretty much across all ATs. 

 

Legacy "viable" builds will still be viable.  Old builds don't become less effective than they were.  They're as effective as they were. 

 

On the other hand, the new stuff, particularly the new MM ATO, would make a modified legacy build more effective than it was.  I'm sure there are some updated bots/traps builds here.

the only real change from the builds pre shut down and now is the i24 ppm changes. so when you see a crapton of damage procs in something like caltrops - that doesn't work like it used to and is a waste of slots now.

What would you I do with caltrops now then? Drop it, or should I use a different set in it?

I am kind of new to this so I took his build as kind of a challenge to do something better. I noticed he was way over caps on the positional defenses the protector bots providing 7.5% defense to the MM when enhanced for it.

 

This caps all your positional defenses caps your SL resistance and gives you better resistance across the board, boosts your accuracy and should nearly cap the bots defenses and give them 20% more resistance.

 

I came up with this and I am planning on using it for My Bots traps

Thank you for taking the time to do this, I really appreciate it. I will compare it and see where I can adapt. I started bidding and buying IO from his build but am only about 1/2 way so should not be an issue.

 

Now do you have anything for either thugs/cold, or mercs/ trick arrow? lol, im a MM dabbler, lol

My build basically works as such. Trip mine, Provoke and just continue to drop trip mines at your feet.

Bots stay behind you.

 

@ TheAdjustor - I'm sorry but no clue what your saying.

Your build is short in positional defense cap. The number is 45%.  Pine is showing 41 melee, 40 range, 43 AoE.

Further you should check your config settings as they are wrong and misleading you in some of your numbers EG resistance values. You are not maxed resistance. You are set for PVP as well.

You also killed the recharge rate by 10 seconds.

 

 

I am currently at 30 and picked up provoke. 38 defense cap with generic IOs no sets. Provoke is working extremely well. I think I am running 4/0 atm.

Will up the team size first and see where I tank then up the mob levels

Holy crap your back! Welcome back dude! Yeah I am slowly building towards your build. Some of the IO take some time to get but i'm getting there. I was wondering if you have any other builds you can share? I have a thugs/ cold, merc/TA also. For some reason finding a good Thugs/ cold big has been difficult.

So I am still debating on provoke tbh since I have ran an old MM without it perfectly fine though it does help draw a bit more. For mine, I built it fairly close to Plainguy's but also took some points from others that I had built and came up with this. Not much of a difference at all but I like to be a bit more hands-on with builds. I wish I could fit in Aid Other.

I will tell you why provoke.

 

Because your pets don't have those types of defenses and resilience.

 

I was just testing it out with Just IOs last night at 30 so no sets at all. Defense is 38 across the board on positional. No issues. until I got greedy and jumped to 1/6 and I got killed. I was bit tired as well.

 

I will try again tonight and again go 0/6 and see how it rolls.

 

But back to provoke.

It really just gets all the aggro on you.

 

I use Sandolphan numkey pad and added the decimal key as all pets stay to prevent them from running and pulling other groups at me. But I can tell you I was fight 2 sets of groups with just having the pets attack and I provoke.

 

They were all around me but with caltrops down they just keep running around. Its almost like the military broken arrow concept. I just picked at target and kept attacking as I dropped caltrops and used the wand and staff along with provoke.

 

If they ran off I would pick another target because I knew they were coming back.

Again no trip mines yet, so the pets are doing all the attacks.

ATM Triage Beacon is just about equal with the recharge so when it expires I can drop another one down.  I noticed I really don't need the triage beacon unless it is a broken arrow type situation and they are swarming me. They were even aggro'ing on the Acid Mortar.

 

Trust me you don't need aid other because triage beacon does it all and again you can two up for 30 seconds.. Two acid mortars up as well. Caltrops you will have out 3 due to the duration time.

 

Again the whole point is to just get all the attention and use your pets like a giant dot along with trip mines.

 

I will play with the build some more to see if I can squeak out a bit more recharge on it.

I will look at cold and see.

 

But some sets just DO NOT afford the ability to tankermind or defense cap.

 

EG I have a Corruptor DP Kin.. I use Hail of bullets to defense cap Melee defense because hail of bullets give positional defense bonus. But I could not get the recharge down enough where HOB is ready. I have it down to 30 second recharge.  But prior to activating HOB I am at 33 Melee defense, so I get slammed sometimes. Thus I try to make Luck inspiration because I get end and heal from powers.

I also had oppressive gloom and it was a really bad idea. I would die instantly from the aggro it produced.

 

So I use a lucky insp and jump in and spam all the AOE attacks. I haven't tried any farming with him and I am sure I can't do 4/8. But I am sure I could do at least 0/8 with him.

 

Traps for ANY archtype that can have it is your quickest, easiest and cheapest way to defense cap.

 

But again let me look at some builds and set bonuses and see where we go.

I really love bots/traps. It's always been my favorite. I was looking at Plainguy's example from the first post, but I was curious how someone would modify it for a heroside build.

 

Also, Plainguy, I saw you are using just IOs now from your last post. Did you change your power choice or slotting before 50 or did you just go with the build as is and take the powers at the level listed? Just curious how you handled early game play.

 

Have you considered what you plan to do for incarnates, ATOs, or other newer stuff?

Here is a variation on the "Live" Bots/Traps build discussed in this thread (Crafted in updated Pine's). Power selection and order all the same. It adds KB protection, additional recovery, and additional haste (near-permanent hasten) at the expense of some HP and Regen. The lost Regen can be made up with more up-time on double-stacked Triage. Other than two slots, it avoids boosted enhancements (one recharge in hasten and one LotG Def in Force Field Generator). Somewhat more expensive with an additional purple set and more MM ATOs. It retains defense softcap without relying on Protector bubbles.

I don't see a trap build doing +4/8 incarnate missions. The AE damage is so absurd that it takes a strong party heal to get past the initual AE damage.

 

No I don't think anyone can do 4/8 incarnate. Not because of the mobs but the end bosses.

 

But I have done Pylons with with my last pet with demon pain.  YES it took me a bit. Ate inspirations. But was able to do it with just last pet and whip attacks.

You need to remember when you have like 10 level 50s all defense capped you get bored. You start to look for something to do.

I had a Thugs dark ONLY for the guns before DP came out.

 

But I have done AE missions with my trap toons. The biggest issues as I mentioned everything gets aggro. This includes force field generator. Which is pumping out a major part of your defenses. So you need to eat some purple luck inspirations until you get that rhythm going.

 

Yea you get some bad starts  and some cascade failure at times. But I assure you it all can be done. 

Give me time let me get him up to 50 and slotted out and we can do some testing and screen shots.

Incarnate helps out TONS for any toon.

I really love bots/traps. It's always been my favorite. I was looking at Plainguy's example from the first post, but I was curious how someone would modify it for a heroside build.

 

Also, Plainguy, I saw you are using just IOs now from your last post. Did you change your power choice or slotting before 50 or did you just go with the build as is and take the powers at the level listed? Just curious how you handled early game play.

 

Have you considered what you plan to do for incarnates, ATOs, or other newer stuff?

Currently lvl 30..

 

Just level 25 and 30s IOs, no sets. But I do have the following

kismet 3% defense

stealth IO in super speed

regenerative tissue regeneration IO in health.

performance shifter +end in stamina

 

I tested it all out yesterday.

Here is the simple results.

0/8 is the idea setting at 37.5 defense.

 

I did do 1/8 but the red con mobs just took too long to take down.

It was just dragging along too much.

 

Here is my simple statement

I am doing 0/8 at level 30 with no set bonuses. Do you think I we won't be able to do 4/8 at level 50 with set bonuses ? I mean WE because its not like I am doing anything special.

Dechs Kaison is the guy who thought up tankermind and posted some amazing things with his build at the time.

All I did was expand on that. He liked his build even if it wasn't defense capped.

As you can see his site is still linked in my signature. He taught me a lot about defense cap.

Here is a variation on the "Live" Bots/Traps build discussed in this thread (Crafted in updated Pine's). Power selection and order all the same. It adds KB protection, additional recovery, and additional haste (near-permanent hasten) at the expense of some HP and Regen. The lost Regen can be made up with more up-time on double-stacked Triage. Other than two slots, it avoids boosted enhancements (one recharge in hasten and one LotG Def in Force Field Generator). Somewhat more expensive with an additional purple set and more MM ATOs. It retains defense softcap without relying on Protector bubbles.

So you know it doesn't rely on the bots for defense cap. The bots are extra.  Just reverse the IOs to blank set and click everything off and you will see defenses are zero.

I recreated the build from what was listed.

 

I swear this isn't a epeen competition but I do look and compare.

Your short some numbers in defense cap. 44 for melee and 47 for AOE.. Can be fixed.

You are also taking a hit not only in regen and recovery but also accuracy and damage bonus, by a lot.

 

And the recharge rate is only fractions of a second faster just look at triage beacon on both builds and compare. 

You do have some higher resistance numbers.

 

I can't see the cost for for these IOs if your not really getting anything greater out of it.

My build is about 100 million. Your triage beacon is 120 million.

 

Both builds are created in Pines.

 

Again I am not trying to fire a shot across your bow here.

I am just looking at mids and making sure the settings are correct, which they are and reporting what mids says.

Here is a variation on the "Live" Bots/Traps build discussed in this thread (Crafted in updated Pine's). Power selection and order all the same. It adds KB protection, additional recovery, and additional haste (near-permanent hasten) at the expense of some HP and Regen. The lost Regen can be made up with more up-time on double-stacked Triage. Other than two slots, it avoids boosted enhancements (one recharge in hasten and one LotG Def in Force Field Generator). Somewhat more expensive with an additional purple set and more MM ATOs. It retains defense softcap without relying on Protector bubbles.

So you know it doesn't rely on the bots for defense cap. The bots are extra.  Just reverse the IOs to blank set and click everything off and you will see defenses are zero.

 

But I am getting an error on the import both ways and would like to see the build.

 

Absolutely about self soft-capping. I recall that the Live build achieved that way back when. More of a comment that the revision was keeping that original design attribute.

I recreated the build from what was listed.

 

I swear this isn't a epeen competition but I do look and compare.

Your short some numbers in defense cap. 44 for melee and 47 for AOE.. Can be fixed.

You are also taking a hit not only in regen and recovery but also accuracy and damage bonus, by a lot.

 

And the recharge rate is only fractions of a second faster just look at triage beacon on both builds and compare. 

You do have some higher resistance numbers.

 

I can't see the cost for for these IOs if your not really getting anything greater out of it.

My build is about 100 million. Your triage beacon is 120 million.

 

Both builds are created in Pines.

 

Again I am not trying to fire a shot across your bow here.

I am just looking at mids and making sure the settings are correct, which they are and reporting what mids says.

It's funny because this was almost my exact build but for Demons/Traps that I remember basing on both you and Dech's builds back on live and was able to solo pretty much every GM except the FF one. Im building my Bots/Traps now because I never fully took it to its prime. I am just trying to squeeze in the photon grenade for stuns and want to go with another patron set like Mu.. I feel like I can still get it to that level without sacrificing anything if I just tweak it a little.
