Not everyone. That's why we get occasional threads nostalgiacising it.

Archetype that made the worst first impression on you?
Haijinx replied to DR_Mechano's topic in General Discussion
This is a good point. Though I think its not really End game as much as after a certain variable level. Varying based on opposition group, the amount of support available and at what level your team members start working on IO defenses. Generally by the mid 30s that point is reached for most teams I think. Lower for TFs since people tend to play those +0. -
Will mention that not all melee cones are created equal. Many barely count as AOEs. Sadly some of the narrow ones also have the worst DPA. Some are really awesome. Crowd Control. Shockwave.

Damage type does not appear to be a consideration in any damage balance schemes in COH Contrary to what people seem to intuitively feel or wish to be the case. The original formula was entirely recharge based. Your 8 second recharge MA smash attack does the same as a 8 second recharge Ice Melee cold attack. There were some adjustments based on animation times, but those came later. WM benefited here IIRC. Fire Melee gets extra damage instead of stuns and KDs, etc. But due to its DPAs its just not that great. Also, most damage sets are smashing or lethal. It seems weird when one is singled out for being such.

FM is what needs adjusted, its lagging considering even with only DOTs and no controls at all its not a top damage set.

MA has better AOE than many think if you use EC to set it up, due to the crit buff. Keep in mind DT animates very fast for a Pbaoe. Its not the ST king that people are tossing around though. Its behind several sets. Off the top of my head TW, WM, DB Its not even king on stalkers. My SJ stalker does more ST and more AOE than my MA stalker. Its the ST king at level 10 though since it has access to good attacks early. That said its in a good place, and ahead of quite a few sets.

Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)

This is how I see it. But if you state it, there tends to be a kneejerk reaction every time. If you were going to design a new game, there is no way you would balance it like this one. But this is the game we've got. There is no way they are going to nerf IOs and certain sets now. Nor should they really. But never been dumb enough to fuel the power inflation back when they did? Well it would have been nice. -

Well I mean I like beating up Manticore because he annoys me. But yeah. That seems pretty contrived. Maybe he WAS trying to clear the way to get with Swan after all. I mean, have you seen the way she dresses? -
I don't think I support MA being the Single Target damage king. That should probably be Fire Melee? MA seems like it might actually be ahead of FM. But right now its TW. I definitely don't see buffing MA to TW level as viable. Damage type is irrelevant. It isnt part of balancing any sets at this time, MA shouldn't get special treatment. Yesterday it was Ninja Blade that wanted special treatment for being Lethal dmg.

Maybe it could add stun% to help out people who wanted more control like VileTerror. Hit Focus Chi and stun gets +25% chance (pve) MA does have 3 stun attacks. Would do something, but would not really effect high end IO builds at all power-creep wise.

Oh wow I never knew all three of those were his characters. Damn. Yeah that's rough. -
Hmmm. I probably can't relate. As soon as IOs came out I have used them as liberally as possible within my budget. And thus survivability of a scrapper independent of primary "controls" beyond a little knockdown has never been much of a consideration. I personally always liked the CS change, since CAK looks goofy IMO.

DCUO was a nice, short, free single player game. I never found a team. Reached max level. And then uninstalled it since I was out of content. Not sure there's anything anyone could do to fix it or wreck it at this point. -
Why do you need guaranteed stun with today's IO reinforced survivability? Anything you could stun with it cant really hurt you.
-
Would be cool if you could pick Placate OR Dragons tail. Placate OR The Lotus Drops, etc But yeah I have a Vet 15 MA stalker. Great ST and exemps down awesome, but my SJ stalker is just plain better.
-
SR gets 95% DDR. It laughs at their puny debuffs.
-
Have to admit turning Eagles Claw into a Teleport would be cool as hell. Jump up ... Tp... attack .... then when you land hit Dragons Tail.
-
MA generally does better than BS in most comparisons. Pylon, Galaxy Brains testing efforts, DPA spreadsheets, etc. And its got a buff coming for CAK so it can slot a -resist proc. Eagles Claw provides an AOE boost if you hit it before DT by increasing crit chance. Better than it being a tiny cone. If I was going to tell you "play x instead" it wouldn't be BS, it would be WM. WM is just plain better than MA. I brought up BS because it needs fixed before MA does If we are going to fix old sets, that is.
-
I don't think there is that kind of animation support currently available. Eagle's Claw already got an animation shave. It used to have an extra flippie do at the end. Its pretty much on a par with other T9s of MAs vintage. As you mention the set has lots of st attacks without it. That's because Cobra Strike was turned into a really good damage attack. Just don't take EC if you think its too slow. I've never noticed an issue with DTs range. It seems to hit more than the 6 foot TAOE Spinning Strike in SJ at least. Changing recharge only helps at low levels, ironically an area where MA shines if you take crane kick and cobra strike both. I think Broad Sword's T1 and T2 are 4 and 8 secs? Lowering recharge would mean lowering damage which would be very unpopular, and hurt late game, since SK is important there. MA got several improvements over the years. Tbh the set that's been waiting the longest for some balancing is Broad Sword.

My first Character was a MA/SR. That character made it to level 4. My second character was an Energy/Energy blaster. I tried a lot of characters those first few days. I have a bad habit of starting over and over and over again when I start a new game.

I think the FTL in Alien is slow compared to Trek and Star Wars, but 30 years is not typical. Long enough people need cold sleep. Short enough people can travel and still have people back on Earth's lives not go by while they are gone.

Good points. Bad idea for a reactor years away from help. But yeah. People make bad design choices all the time. I can maybe even buy the nebraska thing then. Lets say its some multi-terrawatt direct Proton to Proton Fusion Reactor using Gravity Containment. Which is probably impossible outside of a star, but with artificial gravity possible changes. And you have water at some point in your cooling process. At that point if your cooling system fails, the hydrogen from the water itself would actually be potential fusion fuel. As it disassociates and ionizes from the heat ... it then feeds the reaction. So does the water in the air. It would be over quick though, since the run away reaction would destroy the gravity machine. ==== The upsides? You don't need to find any more exotic sources for hydrogen (deuterium or trtium) to fuel the reactor. You just can use any water at all. And you can sell the He3 byproduct to passing starships to use as fusion fuel in presumably saner fusion reactors.
-
I liked SG-Universe which I guess is an unpopular opinion in SG fandom.
-
Why did they remove arcs? This seems like a bad idea.
-
I don't know.. compared to the energy demands of something like terraforming using a giant fusion reactor to "bake" the atmosphere, worrying about cost savings vs. running electric heaters for a few hundred colonists seems a like a rounding error. Considering the safety risks. Plus the plumbing would be a nightmare. Even if they just used water, it would be under pressure like in a normal LWR cooling. But that would at least make the idea of bullet risks semi plausible. "Our reactor is old and stupid and we repuporsed the coolant for heating this hab. All the fail -safes have been bypassed and if there is a leak it will overheat and not shut down in time."
