  1. I think the fact they have starships implies they wouldn't actually need people to babysit their reactors. But I guess if it happened at the maintenance portion it makes some sense. Burnside rule and all. It seemed like there were already empty nicer planets later in the series. Not sure why you would want tons of little terraforming projects light years apart, instead of 1 really big one. But that's kind the point of Alien- stark isolation.
  2. Isaac Arthur makes a great point in his colonization series. Why live on world you are terraforming? The processes involved would be extremely inhospitable, and its probably not pleasant there to start with. Build a space habitat and control everything using robots from orbit.
  3. IDK. The radiation from living too close to a DD Fusion reactor would be a lot deadlier than the Xenomorph. The amount shielding needed would presumably easily stop bullets. Unless its some magic radiation deflector shield or something. But it wouldn't fit in this setting. That was something I liked about Alien its a much harder sci fi setting than something like Star Wars.
  4. Interesting. Thank You. A couple of comments, not disagreements ... ===== Mass always matters even in microgravity. The Tyranny of the Rocket Equation takes no prisoners. But in Alien verse they have solved this problem since they move gigantic starships around. ===== I remembered it as a Nuclear reactor which I presumed fission. Thanks. Though the basic idea that you don't pipe your cooling apparatus for your reactor around the habitat applies. Fusion would likely suggest even more physical seperation if they were using DD or DT due to all the neutron radiation. Unlikely they would go anueutronic like DHe3 due to the fact they are on a planet. Maybe even just HH see below. Build the powerplant kilometers away from the settlement. Pile lots and lots of dirt around it for shielding. Run power wires back. Make sure the settlement is in the shadow of the shielding. Fission reactors don't blow up in the thermonuclear sense. But as you said, the active cooling can fail and the reactor melts down. When they fail there can be hydrogen explosions caused by the heat disassociating hydrogen from oxygen in what used to be water / steam. The explosions can send fissile materials everywhere. Fusion reactors probably wouldn't blow up like an h-bomb because its too hard to make the reaction happen. But your cooling system could fail and it could blow up also. But in the Alien World they have artificial gravity. So they could use gravity confinement like a star. Maybe with gravity confinement the pressure would be high enough for a run away fusion if too much fuel got into the reactor. Gravity confinement might let them use normal Hydrogen to Hydrogen fusion instead of using Deuterium. That might make the idea of an actual fusion explosion more possible. Maybe? If so you'd put it even farther away.
  5. I know the basics of several. Including some proposed 4th gen Nuclear concepts As well as space based concepts. Pebble bed reactors might be a favorite. Hydrogen is pumped through a critical mass of moderately enriched uranium pebbles. This heats the hydrogen which turns a turbine. This mechanical motion creates electricty by moving a magnet surrounded by wires. The whole reactor is rotated to keep the pebbles cooling even. But I'm in a Tech Field and its of interest to me. I like to read the Atomics Rockets website in my spare time. So I guess I pre googled years ago. So I'm probably not a good example. I doubt that most marines know as much as I do about power plants. Though some know a lot since they were stationed on Nuclear Carriers. If you are going to send Combat troops interstellar distance in a Space Travel is hard setting, you should be sending the best and brightest. Since you could only send a tiny fraction of your force. Sci Fi writers no sense of scale. Most educated people know the very basics of how a coal plant works. In a space based society, most should know how Nuclear reactors work.
  6. Contrary to some weird sort of theories thrown around - I don't think there is any balance based on damage type at all. SS doesn't get rage because its smashing damage, it just gets rage. Attack damage is basically scaled based on Recharge, with tweaks over the years to try and smooth out the animation times hits. Some sets get bonus damage for combos, set ability and stuff like that. But really if we wanted to fix NB for doing lethal damage, there's a lot where that came from. I think Capt PH was suggesting instead they might normalize the DR of baddies some.
  7. Switch to Spanish mode.
  8. I don't think you are going to get the kind of synergy you see in Street Justice. That's unfortunate. Helps to remember NB dates back before all Stalker buffs.
  9. Its tricky. Lets say they added a Legendary Set on par with Purple Sets but in Defense sets Then someone who has 6 purple sets in their attack powers for example could have another purple set.
  10. Alternative to the extension might be to open the arc up a little bit. It would be nice if they added a bit of AOE to the older sets, since the newer sets still have theirs.
  11. Power Creep
  12. This is a kernal of wisdom here.
  13. IOs to increase power even more? No IOs to allow you to customize your character more? Sure. Example? Maybe you never want a slow AS. There is a proc that kills slow snipes .. so.. Maybe you want to not be transparent when in stealth? Maybe you want wings to only appear when you fly.. That kind of stuff.
  14. I agree with this. The AV is one of the rare times a Tankers extra survivability may matter - so they already have a role there. And bruising Bosses and Lts is a waste of time.
  15. Nerf Energy Melee first. Bone Smasher and Energy Punch should have 3 second animations.
  16. Its still easily the closest. Both in your testing and recent pylon stuff.
  17. Its power intensive, but not slot intensive.
  18. The cartoons are ok. I hate Anakin so that kind of tarnished Clone Wars for me. The Clones themselves though are very well done I thought. Rebels seemed ok, but seemed aimed at a younger target audience with two young teens on their crew and so on. Both live in the flanderized Star Wars though. The Mandalorion managed to avoid some/much of the Flanderization which made me like it a lot more.
  19. The ones with the good version of Energy Melee
  20. You'd need damage in Stun then. Make it like Cobra Strike
  21. I'm the victim for reading this thread. /jranger
  22. People already ask Eng blasters if they have the procs slotted. So thinking there won't be drama around a toggle is naive. The solution to a teammate with too much knockback is to charge in front of them so you get your AOEs off first. Leeroy!
  23. Wait ..didn't you post that last time?
  24. Sure it does. You don't remember making this exact same post the last 1345663424 times in this infinite time loop?
