  2. A fair assessment. The something you missed is people having other preferences for how they prefer their ears to spend their limited time per day. Music >> Silence >> Having strangers shit-talk through my speakers is my personal preference hierarchy here. Other games have arena-like game modes where almost no one is coordinating by voice chat. CoH does not. I will try to join a kickball without it some time, I suppose, to give a little credit to the PvP folks that are legit trying with their outreach efforts. Beyond that, meh.
  3. I would still encourage you to look at making up some of the difference with procs. DP has some of the best proc potential in the game thanks to swap ammo. You can turn the stun/hold into a proc bomb for an extra high damage S/T attack. It’s nice of AR to have a snipe but T7/8/9 all having 3-4 second animations and situational cone arcs/patches just kinda ruins everything after that.

  5. DB looks pretty meh to me. Between animation times and proc potential, though, I’m pretty sure pistols are miles ahead of AR, imo.
  6. Absolutely true we don’t have enough population to support a random queueing system. In the absence of that, it would just be nice to see more events that encourage casual play as opposed to the current meta of coordinate or don’t bother showing up. I did that a little on live/test for a few months many years ago but don’t have the time/energy/desire for that level of play/social engagement now. I joined the FFA on indom a week or two ago, for what it’s worth. Was fun even if I got most of my kills just figuring out which noobs to farm. TL;DR It just sucks that, unlike zone, Arena has been more or less abandoned by those wishing to use it in casual terms. I get that’s probably not going to change. Just wanted to offer an alternative perspective to complaints like “PvP builds are hard to make” or whatever.
  7. Right. BUT, this game is unique in that it has no viable options that cater to the casual/uncoordinated. I find this game way better than either, but at least in GW2 and ESO you could queue up for random teams where this was the norm. I think the Arena has some options like this but that they have basically never been used by anyone ever.
  8. I have 5 level 50 poisons and respectfully disagree 🙂 Not sure why NB would be slottable with hold. The low splash radius on poison is to balance the powers for having the best overall debuff power in the game. The PBAoE toggle is a self defense itself.
  9. Yeah I’d rather we not advertise a player-created problem as if it’s a game feature and risk making the problem even more impossible to change. I appreciate Mac saying he’d be open to non-voice chatters on his arena teams. Let’s not implicitly discourage that.
  10. Yeah, IMO the only support sets in need of buffs are Force Field, then Sonic Resonance, then perhaps Trick Arrow (and by then only slightly really). But that’s only support sets. Assault Rifle is probably the worst set in the game overall IMO.

  12. As more of an ex-pvp’er than an anti-pvp’er, I’ll throw out some of my own issues I don’t see come up much. Maybe this is already the case in some events but I wish kickballs would be done without discord in mind. I love the arena PvP in this game as far as the engine goes but absolutely hate that there isn’t really much in the way of casual options. Are target calling binds going to be less organized and effective? Sure, but I think that’s fine. I am a major music fan and find voice chat predominantly more of a major annoyance than anything right now. I also have issues with needing to be shoehorned into the only viable PvP community out there when I think said community includes some really cool people but also some unsavory characters. Other healthier games don’t have PvP engines half as good as this, but they do have outlets for casual, uncoordinated players.
  13. Small radius targeted AoE splash would be nice. Poison doesn’t need a self heal though.
  14. Guess it’d be fine if you increased the duration and recharge by the exact same proportions. A net buff though is a hard no from me. Also, giving something an endurance cost is a pretty weak concession in the days of Ageless Core. Maybe if it cost as much as Telekinesis that would be ok.
  15. Fair critique of the word epic, but yes it is absolutely by design. Another way to think about it is declining multipliers from left to right on your powers/enhancements menu.

  19. That’s consistent with the most basic design principles of the game. Primary > Secondary > Pools. So no, nothing to revisit in that regard.

  21. I have a new toon that is typically running around with 30-35% defense (I don’t care about the soft-cap meta) and has aid self + field medic with the former slotted 4 numinas, 2 interrupts. I comfortably use aid self in melee with enough reliability that I often use it solely for the endurance *boost*. If I was remotely worried about having to spam it, which I’m not, I’d just cut LoS for half a second. Yeah, seeing no issues here.
  22. I will submit that the playstyle referred to as “old school” was definitely more prevalent than it is now. I am not sure it was as dramatically different as some people are implying though. I think it was extremely common for people to level up 50 #1 the “natural” way and then to take every alt thereafter immediately to Peregrine Island for some portal mission sitting. The trek to PI at level 1 was a little more risky than the trek to Atlas AE, and I think there’s been a slight uptick post-AE in the percentage of players that choose this playstyle. But I don’t think we agree on how dramatic the change has been.
  23. Not giving my opinion on the OP, but 10k is like 1-2 endgame minion kills, for reference....
  24. Double the tohit debuff on flash arrow, give a powerful -Regen to poison gas arrow, and maybe give disruption arrow a second effect and I reckon it’ll be just fine. Clickiness is a bit of a problem but it’s not the only set with that issue and that’s not going away without trashing the whole set. So I’ll live with that issue. Doesn’t need a heal. EDIT: In case it’s not clear: my position is that the set needs a solid perma-capable -regen more than anything else.
  25. Powers are balanced by effect (in damage set cases, by melee vs ranged, aoe vs s/t vs cone, long vs short recharge), AT modifiers, and whether or not the power appears in primary/secondary/epic/pool. Tier historically has very little to do with it. And shockwave isn’t exactly at the back of the pack as far as struggling T9’s are concerned.
