  1. Unfortunately, this is very common, and one of the reasons I quit doing TFs.
  2. That would make sense. Ross certainly wouldn't want his agent to be dependent on tech created by a foreign government. But yeah, the real-world reason is "MOAR TOYS!"
  3. My point is, you're going to have top players who want to run in this mode all the time for the extra rewards, and less capable players who won't want to because falling into that repeated die/debuff spiral is too frustrating. Any time you try to put together a team, somebody's gonna ask "Hey, are we running in Death Penalty mode?" and whether you answer "yes" or "no", you're going to have people drop out. Or worse, they'll drop out halfway through a Task Force after they've been debuffed a half-dozen times, which I believe you were complaining about in another thread...
  4. I guess as long as it's optional, I wouldn't object. But it sounds absolutely ghastly. "Let's see...I couldn't beat this guy at full strength, so now I have to try again with debuffs. Hmm, I wonder how this is going to turn out...?" My one concern is that there's already a bit of a divide between the "expert" players and the "casuals", and this seems like it would just make that gap bigger, and make it harder for people on either end to fill teams.
  5. If we're gonna start disciplining people every time a jab gets thrown, these forums are gonna get mighty empty, mighty quickly. Just sayin'... #FreeSnarky
  6. I haven't had much chance to fight the amped-up Warriors yet, but that sure doesn't sound good. I am all in favor of adding higher difficulty modes to the game as an option for those who want to play at that level. But I personally am here for the easy-going solo experience. If that becomes a non-viable playstyle, I'm outta here. Not that the volunteers running a not-for-profit server necessarily care. But I encourage them to be as inclusive as possible, if only because it costs them nothing to do so.
  7. I'd just add a line to my bio: "[Character Name] is a dirty copycat, please ridicule them whenever you see them." 😂
  8. Well, that's the thing. We can argue all day about whether the fundamentals of the game should change, and how. But there are practical limits to what a part-time, all-volunteer team can accomplish. And there might be contractual limits as well -- even if the Homecoming team did have the capability to substantially rewrite the game code, I suspect that the NCSoft deal limits what they're allowed to do. The fact that the game exists in playable form at all is a minor miracle; expecting it to compete with modern, professionally-run, for-pay MMOs is ridiculous.
  9. No, but as I said, the spotlighting of Krypto leads me to believe that the movie will include more lighthearted and heartwarming moments.
  10. Not a lot of variation here, except that anime-inspired lady on the end, who I thought should be extra petite:
  11. (Accidental double-posting)
  12. Oh, please. There is a huge difference between whimsical and farcical. The Donner films had a lot of humor in them, as did the George Reeves tv show, The Animated Series, and more recently, "Superman and Lois". Doesn't mean you can't also have serious and even tragic moments. A Superman who's allergic to smiling isn't Superman.
  13. Aw, that's my favorite part! Everything else about the trailer is very by-the-numbers, But putting Krypto front-and-center seems like a sign that this movie might actually have some charm and whimsy to it. Can we finally be getting a Superman movie that's actually (God forbid!) fun?
  14. I picked Torchbearer pretty much at random when I signed up for HC. Haven't had any reason to change.
  15. Honestly, I think the novelty has just worn off. Marvel built their brand on a particular style, and the fact that each movie led into the next one. But after umpteen movies and tv shows (and DC and countless others trying to imitate them), people are just bored with it. Some say it's because the quality has gone downhill...well, maybe. But I don't think "The Marvels" or "Eternals" are measurably worse than, say, "Iron Man 2" or "Thor: The Dark World". It's just that back then, the formula was still fresh, and now it's old hat. I'm not sure how to fix this, short of just letting the whole mega-franchise take a rest for 5-10 years to let anticipation build up again (which obviously isn't going to happen). I don't think a reboot would necessarily help, but I suppose James Gunn's Superman will be a test case for how effective that approach could be.
  16. I'm sure I've repeated a couple of powersets that I used back on Live (including a couple of cases where I specifically tried to re-create a character I had back then). But I don't think I've doubled up on anything here on Homecoming. I'm not opposed to the idea, but right now I'm having fun trying out new ones.
  17. I'll slot SOs until somewhere around level 20-30. Then I switch to common IOs, just because I don't have to replace them as often. I'll throw some procs in Health and Stamina if I feel like I need the boost, which I usually do. On some characters, if I have a lot of Inf to burn and/or feel like experimenting, I'll start slotting sets to see what happens. I know that the math-lovin' MIDS experts can finagle some impressive bonuses that way. But for me, doing exclusively sub-50 solo content, I honestly don't notice much difference.
  18. Got all of those already, except the Perf Shifter EndMod...I slotted a second IO EndMod instead. I had like 7 different toggles running, which was just overkill. This character just hit 50, so I'm ready to retire him, but I'll try the extra Perf Shifter on the next one. Thanks for the answers, everyone! Just one of those odd things you see in game that was bugging me. Now I know...
  19. I've been having some Endurance issues on my current Scrapper (my own fault for taking all those Fighting and Leadership pool powers, I guess). And it reminded me of something I always wondered about. Every so often, I'll be in a situation where I'm not paying enough attention to my blue bar, and I'll hear that dreaded alert sound that means you've run out of Endurance. Followed by the even-more-dreaded sound of toggles de-toggling. But I notice that it's not consistent; sometimes all my toggles will drop, sometimes it'll just be one of them, and sometimes it's some number in-between. So I was just curious: Is there some factor that determines how many toggles shut off, or is it random?
  20. I generally don't care for raids either, but I'll do the Mothership because it's fairly straightforward, and I can just brute force my way through it. A lot of the trials and task forces involve some kind of special strategy you have to follow, and I just find them too confusing and nerve-wracking. I remember the one time I did a Hamidon Raid back on Live...that thing was like a freaking square dance: go to this corner, go to that corner, promenade and do-si-do. I finally just set the team leader to "follow", hovering along and not doing much, because I kept hearing dire warnings that one wrong move could screw the whole thing up. I don't need that kind of stress in my life.
  21. I wouldn't be surprised if, in some early draft of the script, he just wrapped the bad guys up in his cape (a maneuver he used to do all the time back in the '70s). But someone decided that was either too mundane, or too hard to stage, or whatever, so we ended up with the Decal of DoomTM instead. I remember comic book writer Denny O'Neil joked about how the screenwriters for multi-million-dollar movies could pull random nonsense that his editor would never let him get away with in a 25-cent comic book. 😄
  22. I had no horse in this race (There weren't any particular names I was looking to grab, and I was in no danger of losing any). But I am frankly surprised at how many folks are managing to get the exact names they wanted. I'm happy for them, but it also makes me kinda sad, because it implies that there were a bunch of folks who signed up early on, snagged good names, and then just quit playing for whatever reason.
  23. I don't believe either of those characters are in the public domain. The copyrights on some of the old novels have lapsed, but that only applies to the actual text of the stories. The names and likenesses of Tarzan and Doc are still trademarked.
  24. If nothing else, it displays your excellent taste in music. 😉 Hmm..."Werewolf of London" is probably already taken, but you might be able to snag "Excitable Boy" or "Mr. Bad Example"...
