  1. Yes, this is very much true. I remember the Paragon devs posting about it on the forums. In fact, I remember Positron's post about AE farming, which read like the rant of an drunk, angry step-father screaming at the kids who'd ruined his plans. So yeah, it was stated in no uncertain terms. You do have a point here. None. And since none of us want the game filled with more microtransactions, or have raids be the only way to access Incarnate powers, that's probably a good thing.
  2. There has been no derision here. There has just been people disagreeing with you. I'm not going to apologize if you're not used to people disagreeing with you. And then there's been you calling people liars. And another poster claiming "no rational arguments", even though rational arguments have been the literal basis of the disagreements in this thread. Your posts in this thread, and those of the people who agree with you, have been full of little other than emotional pleas and counter-factual information. You're either refusing to argue in good faith, or you honestly lack the wherewithal to discern the difference between disagreement and derision. Please understand that your "No, you!" style of refusing to understand logical arguments isn't going to enable you to win anything, it's only going to convince people to stop talking to you. Both online and IRL. I know that you're going to see this post as an attack on you, but it's not. It's actually my attempt to offer good advice. Peace.
  3. Ok, here we go! Sprint + Swift + Follow is very fast. Like over 40 MPH if properly slotted. I've never had a problem using that to close with my next victim. Gap Closers are already in the game. Changing Confront into a Gap Closer would only 'hurt' people in that the time the devs spend making that change is time that they can't spend adding things to the game that are not currently in the game. So no, it wouldn't 'hurt' anyone, but there is a down side to it. What about not having a Gap Closer in a Scrapper power set is preventing you from having fun? Multiple rational arguments have been provided in this thread explaining why people are against this. They basically boil down to: I use confront and removing it would force me to respec. There's no reason for the devs to spend the time necessary to do this when these powers already exist in game. These are both rational arguments that have been made in this thread explaining why people are against this. The only people who look silly are the ones who can't see that these rational arguments have been made. Now this I agree with. And I'll even go out on a limb and say that others will agree with this as well. While Combat Teleport and Super Speed, both of which can be considered Gap Closers, do not require investment in additional powers, Spring Attack does. I would definitely support additional Gap Closers that do not require investment in multiple powers for those characters who are not porters or speedsters. Perhaps as alternate animations for Combat Teleport. Yes, it is possible. The Sentinel version of Super Reflexes has the option to take one of two different mez protection powers. The Homecoming developers have said that this has created some problems -I don't remember the details- and they would never do this again.
  4. I agree. And frankly this is something that I try to explain to people all of the time. If my experience is any indicator it will either 1) erupt into a flame war and get locked, or 2) people will lose interest, stop posting in the thread and it'll drop into the pit and be forgotten. And no. I do not believe for a moment that a single person who reads this thread is going to be motivated to "get the word out" about Homecoming.
  5. Yeah. I think that balancing the power sets is a lot more complicated that simply adjusting all outgoing damage to match animation time. What about those sets that have more AoEs? If damage for all powers just flat matches animation time then sets with more AoE attacks are going to be far above other sets. What about something like Energy Melee, where most of the attacks suck except for Total Focus and Energy Transfer? Those two attacks make the set worth taking. If you normalize their damage to match their animation time you basically ruin that entire power set. Balance also has to take secondary effects into account. If Cold Blast or Energy Blast does the same damage as Fire Blast then those two sets will be objectively better because they offer some measure of safety in addition to damage. TL;DR: I agree. Properly balancing power sets would be a lot of things, but 'trivial' is not one of them.
  6. True. But if the change that you're asking for happens it will have that effect. Invaderstych isn't lying, he's making the good faith assumption that you're intelligent enough to foresee that fact. Rather than be insulted you should be flattered that he's assuming you are intelligent until proven otherwise, instead of doing what most internet people do, which is the opposite of that. False equivalency. Building an entirely new set is not the same as changing the powers in old sets. Now normally I'd be in favor of creating new sets, especially one that has a gap closer. However, back on April 29th I issued an injunction against creating any new power sets until Energy Aura has been ported to tanks. Motion denied! Relax. It's just a joke.
  7. Having recently handled my 1,000 complaint, I have now earned the "Sorry Karen, I am the Manager" badge.
  8. This is true. However, existing players who have played long enough to become bored of low level content they can no longer called new players. So, as I said, new low level content does not help new players as the person that I replied to stated.
  9. Nope. It works just like Foot Stomp, only no damage. I actually have a StJ/Willpower Brute who uses that pool power in combat just because it's hilarious. Dude, he was clearly joking here. Someone else used that word in this thread, and then someone else repeated it, and then he jokingly referred to it. Now that's a suggestion that I agree with!
  10. New low level content only benefits veteran players who will be able to play new low level content, it does not benefit new players at all. If someone is truly new to the game then all of the "old" content that you and I have played a thousand times will be new to them.
  11. Suffer? If someone disagreeing with you on an internet forum makes you think of the word suffer, then you do not know what that word actually means. The word suffer is associated with other words like pain, injured, bleeding, fear. Nothing posted on an internet forum can do that to you. And what exactly do you mean by "people"? Do you not believe that I'm an actual human from Earth?
  12. No. It's not worth consideration because the ability to teleport, or leap, to your target is already in the game. If you want a Gap Closer then take the pool power of your choice. Also, there's this thing called "The Cottage Rule." I've been waiting to see if anyone would bring this up, and I'm disappointed that no one has. Particularly because people love to invoke The Cottage Rule when it doesn't actually apply.
  13. Somebody's been playing Guild Wars 2 I see. 😁
  14. I have a bunch of melee characters. None of them have Combat Teleport or any other 'Gap Closer.' Well ok, my Broadsword Shield Scrapper has Shield Charge. Point is that if you feel that your melee character, or any other character for that matter needs a Gap Closer you can pick one up. Some people do not feel the need for them so they don't bother. But there's no objective need for a Gap Closer. Actually I've already explained this. While the developers are spending time working on changing all of the Confront powers to Gap Closers, that's time they cannot spend doing other things. Now, if this were an ordinary game company that wouldn't matter. But this isn't. Homecoming has around Thirteen people, working part time, for free, and not all of them are developers. So literally anything they do it taking time away from them doing anything else. And you can already pick a Gap Closer. It's already in the game.
  15. Opportunity cost. While the developers spend time changing all of the Confront powers to a Combat Teleport - which already exists in the game, and the OP can pick it, and therefore is complete waste of time to add it into the game AGAIN - that's time that they cannot spend doing other things. How could it possibly make sense for the developers to spend time adding something to the game, that already exists in game, instead of adding in something new to the game?
  16. Ok, I knew that Tankers had their damage output increased. I did NOT know that Brutes' damage output was decreased. That doesn't seem right. I mean... it's kinda funny, but yeah. It's doesn't seem like the right decision. Well, Brutes were the villain-side tanker/scrapper then blah, blah, blah. You already know the backstory. Yeah. What can I say? The Paragon devs didn't really think that whole thing through very well. I don't know that the Homecoming devs can really fix that at this point. I'll make sure to feel the door to see if it's hot before I open it on my way out. 😁
  17. First of all, what you've said here is clearly true. The numbers are what they are. Secondly, I have a few questions. What's wrong with an AT that splits the difference between Tanks and Scrappers? And if Brutes didn't split the difference, then what would you have the devs do to fix them? Have them do as much damage as Scrappers? Give them as much mitigation as Tanks? How do you 'fix' Brutes without causing either Tanks or Scrappers to become obsolete? Am I going to need to don my fireproof suit for this one?
  18. I blame Arcane. I'm pretty sure it's all his fault. 😁
  19. This is funny to me because my 17 year-old son said this to me just a few weeks ago. He said that he likes the gameplay of CoH, which is why he plays, but that he thinks the stories are all stupid. So that's what I did to recruit new players to City of Heroes. I went out and created a couple of them! Let's see any of you top THAT!!!
  20. Bio is great on endurance, or it can be anyway. It has a power that lets you choose between +dam, +end, or +def. That's one reason why it's so popular. Another is that a lot of players really enjoy having their characters look like the poo-monster that just crawled out of the sewer. For Shield, like pretty much every other set, I highly recommend getting a Performance Shifter +End Proc to slot in Stamina and a Miracle +15% recovery to slot in Health. They're easy to get and, even if they're the only two IOs you have in your entire build, you'll really notice the difference. As for pool powers, you already called it. It depends on what you like and what you want to do. Fighting, for Tough and Weave, has always been a popular choice. It still is.
  21. Shield and Bio are both very popular because they give a damage boost. Bio in particular has basically become "The Meta" because of the damage boost and absorb and self-heal and it even comes with built in cup holders. Now that's out of my purview. You'd want to ask @Yomo Kimyata or @Ukase. Perhaps they'd be willing to give you some advice. Sorry to just ping you guys, but I hate to see a newbie's questions go unanswered and I don't know the right answer to his question. Once again I'm going to say Shield and Bio. I remember when the shield set went live. There were so many Broadsword/Shield Spartans running around Paragon City that it was ridiculous. Titan Weapons/Bio and EM/Shield are also fun favorites. The Guide subforum has a ton of useful info. I hate to just point you to that and not answer your questions, but there's so many good (and long) posts in that subforum that anything that I could post would only be a tiny fraction of the good information that you could get from some of those guides.
  22. That's not the MM AT, that's just your personal preference. Which is fine. I love my MMs. Yeah? I think I'll have to make one of those one of these days.
  23. With all due respect Arcane, you're out of your mind. There's nothing wrong with the Mastermind AT. Mercenaries need some buffs, the rest of the MM sets are doing just fine.
  24. Oh, I agree. Assault Rifle and Mercenaries definitely should be fixed well before any improvements to Regen or the Epic Pools. 😁
