The first one isn't a bug. You get bonus merits for completing the entire Hollows storyline. The same thing is true in Faultline. It's been like that pretty much since merits were added to the game.
-
With a KB > KD IO in Bonfire. Trust me on this. It turns a neat, but not very useful, area denial power into a soft control patch that does more damage than Rain of Fire.
-
It's not a good argument. "The devs didn't do anything about it" proves nothing except that the devs didn't do anything about it. Who knows why? Maybe they just didn't have time, or it was too low on the list, or they forgot about it, etc., etc., etc. Some of the PvPers want to continue the practice from the retail forums of defending PvP by insisting "the devs only ever nerfed ONE power because of PvP." But, unless they're psychic, or they were actually on the dev team, they can't possibly know that. Maybe Mac's right, or maybe the retail devs nerfed a ton of powers because of PvP. We'll never know. And they'll never know either, but they continue to insist that they do know. Whatever. Let 'em continue to spar with the ghosts of the past. Let 'em to continue to fight their war to defend PvP, even though they're the only ones on that battlefield because no one is trying to delete it from the game.

I understand what you're saying, but you're using a false premise. "Good names" can't be based on a subset of the number of available characters that form words, it has to be based on a subset of words that are considered "good names", or combinations that are "good." Now you can argue all day long about which words are "good" and which ones aren't, but since there's only about 1 million words in the English language, the subset of "good names", that are also appropriate for comic book super heroes, is going to be considerably smaller than your 110 million estimate. But it should still be in the millions. So basically I'm bored at work today, and nitpicking.

Thank you for that! I've always hated the fact that, as soon as you're within aggro range, every enemy in the entire group instantly draws their weapons at the exact same time. It makes them all look like robots, or NPCs. I think they do... sometimes. Sure, Warwolves will jet off into the sunset like they're on crack, but how many times have you seen a Longbow Eagle turn and try to fly away at .000001 MPH? I see it happen all the time. The only reason that I remember it is because it looks so weird. He'll be leaning forward in a fast flight pose, but then moving slower than grandma crossing the street with her walker. If that's not Movement Suppression then I don't know what is.
-
Sure, and I'd be fine if they added that. But Movement Suppression as it currently exists in game doesn't make IRL sense, doesn't make comic book sense and doesn't even make sense in the game itself. There's literally no reason for Movement Suppression to continue to exist.

Sudden Acceleration: Knockback to Knockdown

I don't know what you all are talking about. I'm on Discord now. It's fine. 😃

Man, I wish I'd seen this thread earlier. My only Controller is Grav/Storm. And let me tell you that it's very fun to play. Try taking Teleport Target from the teleportation power pool. Teleport your Singularity right into the enemy mob. Then drop Freezing Rain on top of that. Then drop Tornado on top of that. Then drink a cup of coffee and watch the fun. Tornado will knock them away and then Singularity will pull them back in. Between the two of them they'll be constantly tossing the enemies around like salad. To make it even funnier slot so KB > KD in Singularity, but not in Tornado. That just makes it worse for them. Keeps the enemies in a smaller group and then start getting thrown up into the air.

Movement suppression is dumb and I hate it in every game that I encounter it in. Whenever people are shooting at me IRL I'm always able to run way faster than when they're not. In some games my actual vehicle moves slower when idiots are shooting at me too, which makes even less sense. Movement suppression is dumb now and it was always dumb.

I use follow all of time in melee. Not only does it bring me into melee range, it also keeps me there if the target moves. Always has. So Invader must be talking about while using Hover, which is the only time in the game when follow will not bring you to melee range. I bind follow and toggleon sprint to a single key, not to my attacks. I bind the attack and toggleoff sprint to my attack keys. This keeps sprint from draining my endurance while I'm in a fight. Sure Combat Teleport is great, but not every character is a teleporter. And, contrary to the Mix-Maxers playbook, not every character has to be build the same, optimal specs.

Null The Gull -> Knockback to Knockdown
PeregrineFalcon replied to flyinggecko2's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
My main is a tank. Has been since I created the character back in 2006 during Issue 7. My best friend's main is an Eng/Eng Blaster. We spent years duo-ing on the retail forums. It was great. We've duo-d for years on Homecoming. Still great! You know what happens when he knocks someone away from me? He kills it and I just change targets. "But Peregrine, changing targets is difficult." 😭 -
I understand and agree with you completely. And maybe that is the problem. I do try to not violate the forum rules, but maybe I'm just such a d***** that I just can't get into the weeds of a discussion without breaking the rules. I also happen to think that we're a small community and there just might be a little bit of "oh, this jerk again" going on whenever the mods are responding to my posts being reported. Either way, /jranger is the only way that I can participate without getting perma-banned.
-
I used to do exactly that. Say that I disagreed, explained why I thought something was a bad idea, etc. Guess what happened when I did that? People would get triggered and report my posts, then I'd get an involuntary forum vacation. So posting Jranger allows me to disagree with something without getting more warning points just because some stunning and brave person got triggered. By the way, thank you for that, kind sir.

Null The Gull -> Knockback to Knockdown
PeregrineFalcon replied to flyinggecko2's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
So what? If a handful of people constantly make threads wanting the devs to give them a "I win button" does that mean they should? So what if a handful of people keep making threads about how much they hate knockback? This is from a post I made back in June 2021: "Well, he'd be wrong. And so are you: Here's a link to an actual poll that was conducted last year. The players who say they LOVE KNOCKBACK total 52.47% of the respondents. Players who hate knockback, or who wish it was knockdown instead, total just 22.77% of the respondents." Why did I link to an old post instead of just redoing the numbers myself? Because the anti-knockback people have continued to vote in that poll thus skewing the numbers. But, when it was first posted, before people knew that it'd be used as fodder for forum threads, people gave their honest opinion. And their honest opinion is that the majority of players LOVE knockback. Also in that thread: Captain Powerhouse "Knockback is a mechanic that adds a lot of "power" feel to a player. It is usually disliked in this game only because it gets in the way of optimizing kill time (something that goes back to the root of this game over-rewarding kill speed instead of task completion, but that's a topic for another day.) That is a feeling of power I heavily am against removing from the game. A reason I heavily oppose the addition of a global switch for KnockBack is that as soon as it's available, anyone that does not use it will become an outcast, accused of trolling, and what not." -
And this is the real reason for the complaint. You're not upset about the "tone of voice." You're not upset about "This jranger picture just causes confusion." You're not upset about "insular snark." You're not upset about "how the message was delivered." You're upset because I said "/jranger" to one or more of your posts and it triggered you. Why not just go ahead and change the name of this thread to "How dare Peregrine Falcon be allowed to disagree with my spectacular suggestions?!?"
-
/jranger means "no" or "I don't like it." It's also a fun City of Heroes specific meme. I haven't been warned by the moderators for posting it because simply posting "no" or "I don't like it" is specifically allowed by a post by a forum moderator. GM Tahquitz: "Just say “I don’t like it”. You don't have to say why if you don’t want to."

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I wasn't aware that I needed your permission to post in the roleplaying section of the forums. I'll make sure to check with you next time, sir. I guess my point is pretty much the same as Andreah's. That your head canon should be self-contained and actually leave room for roleplaying and others to roleplay as well. So I was commenting on my ideas as far as head canon. "My character met Blue Steel or Statesman" is fine, in my opinion, "My character saved Blue Steel's life a dozen times and now he's in love and won't stop stalking my character" not so much. And, "how dare you speak with me mortal, I don't care if this dimension is destroyed, I'm uber-Galactus" also not great for head canon and roleplaying, in my opinion.
-
Admittedly I haven't been involved in the roleplaying community on Homecoming, so maybe they don't have that issue here. It sure seemed to be an issue on the retail servers though. I know exactly what you mean by jaded characters. I think that goes along with being very powerful. After all, if you can just port yourself to another dimension, or whatever, you don't have a whole lot of reason to be that concerned about this one. Which always left me wondering why even be a hero in the first place if you don't really care about what happens to this world. My headcanon is always very self-contained as well. The characters in my Paragon PD SG have met Blue Steel, but he doesn't look up to them or owe my characters any favors. If anything it's likely to be the other way around. My main, an Invuln/EM tanker, is on equivalent power level to X-Men's Colossus, not Statesman or Superman. My most powerful character is an Arch-Mage, but even she isn't as powerful as Doctor Strange or Magik. I think it's better for roleplaying if you're of moderate level superhero instead of Galactus. I actually think that level of power is a real trap for actual roleplayers.
-
The only real problem that I've had with roleplayers and and roleplaying in City of Heroes is that everyone that I've encountered is of Galactus levels of power. Everyone has saved the universe a zillion times and their power dwarfs that of Statesman and all of us "lesser beings." I'm interested in actual roleplaying, not just a bunch of 15 year olds power tripping, so beyond usually staying in character during party chat I don't roleplay in City of Heroes. Head canon is fine and all, but your head canon has to leave room for other people to also be super heroes in a super hero game.

Enemy singularity causing very strange behaviour
PeregrineFalcon replied to Parabola's topic in Bug Reports
Another AI bug I've seen is Crey going after my FF Defender like mad. Ignoring taunts from a tank to come up and punch my FF Defender in the face even when I was doing nothing. Going after healers I understand, but going after an FF Defender who's standing in the back of the group doing nothing seemed kinda weird. -
Clearly you don't remember The Hollows. Where we'd go at level 9 and have to sneak past level 14 mobs just to get to our mission door. Taxi Bots, players who would help other players by teleporting them to their mission doors in The Hollows, were a big deal back then.
