What Can Be Done to Recruit Players?

Hey, I made the same mistake this very morning. It's not fashionable to admit that you were wrong on the internet, but it's what adults do. -
What Can Be Done to Recruit Players?
PeregrineFalcon replied to Apparition's topic in General Discussion
I didn't thumbs down your post because I disagree with you. I did it because you clearly don't understand what the word recruit means. Your post affects retention, not recruitment. Retention is important though. So important that I feel that it deserves its own thread. But, changing the way sound files are played in game isn't going to recruit new people to play the game. Can you understand that statement? -
Total Noob question : how does one do damage as a Controller ?

And... I got nothing. You're right and I was wrong. I should have remembered the context. -

That's a Faulty Analogy, and you know that. If you're having difficulty boiling water, asking someone to help you IS a viable solution. -
What Can Be Done to Recruit Players?

Fair enough. And I even agree with you on this. However, that's not really what this thread is about. You could clutter this thread up with a list of everything in this game that's mysterious and difficult to understand and then debate whether or not those sytems should be streamlined and simplified and documented in game. And then others will come in and complain that you're "dumbing down" the game. And then have that discussion. None of which has anything to do with "What Can Be Done to Recruit Players?" Recruiting new players is the first step to increasing the player base. Retention is another, and completely different step, which is important enough to deserve its own thread, don't you think? -
What Can Be Done to Recruit Players?

That's going to help recruit new players how exactly? Recruiting new players involves, by definition, doing stuff outside of the game. You know, like actually talking to people IRL, face-to-face. Maybe even going outside. Changing stuff in the game, no matter how much you want that change, isn't going to recruit new players. You guys do understand that, right? -
New Regen Powerset - What could it look like?
PeregrineFalcon replied to Troo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The more I think about this the more I like this idea as a power pool. This way any character of any AT could be a berserker. The 5th power would be something like this: you can't click it unless your HP is under 50%, when you click it you get 60 seconds of mez protection, +100% damage buff, and you take no damage. Once the 60 seconds is up you lose the buffs and all damage you accumulated during that 60 seconds is immediately applied to you. I wouldn't call it "Bound for Valhalla" though, I'd call it "Cowboy Up!" -

I'm issuing an injunction against any new powersets until after Energy Aura has been ported to Tankers. We're adjourned. -
Ok, so speaking as someone whose main is a tank, I can tell you that I find Taunt to be a valuable power. I've seen many posts from others that feel the same way. Others, like yourself, prefer to tank without Taunt. It isn't a worthless power, but it usually isn't necessary, even on a tank. And I'll grant you that Confront is pretty close to worthless. I've taken it before. On a broadsword scrapper. Purely because I like the animation. But yeah. Pretty much no one takes it because it's worthless. So I guess that I could see changing out Confront for a "Charge to Enemy." But then what happens to Shield Charge and Lightning Rod?
-
No. Other games do it is NOT a valid argument. However, this IS a valid argument: And I even agree with this. I personally love my favorite gap closer, Force Leap. If it weren't for that one ability I'm not sure that I'd still be playing SWTOR. So I agree with you on this. However, I don't want to see the Taunt power changed. I use Taunt a lot. And, I don't want to see the developers spend a bunch of time adding something to the game that's already in the game. Ultimately, your only objection is that the gap closer is in a pool power instead of in the powerset itself. So I'd like to ask you, how will the game be improved by breaking the Cottage Rule and changing Taunt into (essentially) Combat Teleport, which you can already take?
-
I'm not talking about removing the taunt effect. I'm talking about changing the Taunt power from something that allows me to pull enemies to me instead of me going to them. You are not forced to take any pool power. And I disagree with your assertion that it should be a core feature of any AT. And I don't care what every other game does. Stellaris lets me build clone factories on other worlds. Do you want to start a thread suggesting that the devs should add that feature to CoH too? "Other games do it" is not a valid argument. In other games I have to reload constantly. Do you want them to add that to CoH too? Another game I play has an option called "en passant capture." Should the devs add that to CoH too?

I agree that movement suppression is, and always was, stupid, not fun and should be removed from the game entirely. Several melee sets already have a "gap closer." Shield has Shield Charge and Electric Melee has Lightning Rod. Ninjitsu has a speed buff in Kuji-in-Retsu, which can be used to quickly close with a victim target. While I personally love the melee gap closers, I don't agree with the idea of removing Taunt from powersets nor with further homogenizing the powersets by giving them all a gap closer. The only advantage that a Blaster has over a Tanker or Scrapper is that he doesn't have to chase targets. If you don't want to chase targets then either play a Blaster or take the pool power so that you don't have to.

New Regen Powerset - What could it look like?
PeregrineFalcon replied to Troo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'm not disagreeing with you on this. However, it's not necessary to "tear down and rebuild" Regen. I read nothing but praise for Sentinel Regen so how hard would it be to run the numbers and tweak Regen just enough to make it not suck? Also, my primary objection really has nothing to do with Regen. It has to do with making an entirely unnecessary powerset to reward those people who have been posting non-stop about "fixing" or "replacing" Regen. Rewarding bad behavior causes said behavior to substantially increase. You do that just once and you'd better buckle up, cupcake, cause the forum will get flooded with an entirely new kind of stupid the likes of which Shai-Hulud has never seen. At this point I'd advise the developers (not that they'll ever listen to anything I ever say) to not ever fix Regen just so that this doesn't happen. -
New Regen Powerset - What could it look like?

Oh, ok. So we don't poll the player base and get a real idea of what the majority of the players want. Nooooo. Instead what we do is we reward people for spamming the forums with the same idea over and over again. Yeah, that'll go over well. -

We already have two of those. One that's very clicky and one that has no clicks at all. I'm not sure how you justify adding a third set that just does the same thing that the first two do. Yes, yes, and /jranger. 😁
