Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
Grouchybeast replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Let's be fair, though. Periodically running a script that deleted a proportion of all the inf in the game would actually help combat inflation, and so as a suggestion it's in at least the top 5% in this thread. -

Items on the AH will be higher priced AND people will hoard everything because prices on the AH are too low? At the same time? -

So...supply of IOs will increase relative to inf, and prices for IOs will fall. That sounds pretty good from the point of view of those hypothetical 'normal players' who are just playing the game and trying to IO out their characters. -

So what do you think the effect is going to be of cutting the amount of inf that comes into the game? -

But why would you waste time doing that by farming in the first place, now, when you can do it easier and much quicker on the beta server? -
I have a terrible memory, but want to say the name was something like Parallel Illusion. ETA: I was waiting for a trial to start, and saw someone with an almost identical costume to mine but fiery red instead of icy blue. It was pretty cool, I wish I'd taken a screen shot of us.

At this point I think that Sisyphus would turn you down for a job swap. -

I think we've finally identified a player who is actually suffering as a result of these changes. -

I'm pretty sure people committed to rewards over everything else were farming or running Council radios in PI, they weren't thinking, "Ooh, a chance to run a Synapse on a team full of lowbies with DOUBLE INF! I'd better send a tell fast!" -
Difficulty in CoH: Community Discussion
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in General Discussion
So I'm playing in a duo. I have IOs, they have SOs. Difficulty? I'm playing in a duo. I have IOs, they have SOs, but they're level 40 and I'm a side-kicked level 20. Difficulty? I'm in a team of eight. Two of the players are on SOs, six are on IOs. Difficulty? -
I think it would make more sense to just get rid of the shard-based Alpha components entirely. It's a relic of the introduction of Incarnates on live, and the plan of allowing people to build up their Alpha slots using components that dropped in normal content before they moved on to real Incarnate-level content. Since threads now drop everywhere on HC the shard system has been rendered largely pointless, unless the devs have a plan to make it relevant again.

I wasn't being facetious when I asked this before, I'm genuinely curious: how do you envisage this 'normal player' playing the game and how do you think this change will negatively affect it? Honestly, someone who levels their characters at a steady pace playing story arcs and TFs, and ends up with a solid build at 50 is not going to be particularly impacted by these changes. That's what I think of when I imagine some hypothetical 'normal play style'. -

Really? I am so shocked. This is my shocked face. 😲 The have also added new inf sinks. The P2W vendor sells for inf items that were part of the paragon market/VIP system. You can buy the paragon market packs (Winter, Heroes & Villlains, Rogues and Vigilante) from the AH, which adds IO supply and sinks inf at the same time. You can even buy Merits with inf, which isn't so relevant now but which means that at the moment, all IOS are capped at a price of 100 million inf, and when (if) we hit those kinds of prices, will directly take inf out of the economy. -

Turning down the tap that keeps inf flowing into the game is always going to be a good thing. I genuinely don't understand your 'causal player' point, though. How do you imagine this casual player is playing that they can't manage to outfit a character via the normal levelling process? -

It genuinely didn't occur to me that it could be anything else. But if it is serious I'm actually impressed that someone who discovered an exploit that let them make one hundred times the base rate of inf gain would have the cojones to show up on the forum to complain bitterly to the devs that they couldn't do that any more. -
Obtaining a Character Name from Inactive Player
Grouchybeast replied to MakoMako's topic in Help & Support
There was a similar policy on live IIRC. Unfortunately, whenever the devs actually ran the script it never freed up many names, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. -
It's the people who don't wash their hands before playing.

You see it like that, sure. But I'm a badass villian, and I want to be able to walk into the Golden Giza and get the recognition that I deserve because of my infamy. I want flunkies running up with my favourite drink already prepared on a silver tray, and ushering me to the private high-rollers' game room. I want my lucky table to be ready for me to play. I want a good-looking host(ess) hovering around to bring me my basket of fries cooked exactly the right shade of golden brown and sprinkled with truffle salt, and there had better be no broken fries. I hate broken fries. Sure those other villains, the ones who are much less infamous, they only get to play the slots, but I have a name and reputation in the Rogue Islands and I want some RESPECT for it.

It should be in the IRL email that's associated with your account. Maybe check the spam trap?

That sounds like you're probably not crafting both level 25 AND level 30 heals. The badge needs you to craft 6x level 25 and 6x level 30, plus one more that can be either level. All the IO crafting badges (other than the level 10 badge) need you to craft both of the levels.
-
I love all of these, and 70/30 seems like a good split.

You mean, like people get fed up with gambling in the real world? Anyway, no problem. There's a series of jackpot wins on the gambling games that award badges. Very low odds of winning it for small bets, higher odds for larger bets. Get the full set of badges and win an accolade!

This would be a great idea, provided that there's a suitable bias in favour of the house. Since the AH tax is 10%, I would suggest that as the minimum house margin. This would be good for the game economy, and also Johnny Sonata is not going to be giving away his inf.

It doesn't mean it wasn't an exploit, it just means that the devs had other priorities and dealt with it when they got to it. There's no time limit on exploits after which by law they must automatically get grandfathered into the system.
