City of Heroes vs. Champions Online - The Data
Grouchybeast replied to _NOPE_'s topic in General Discussion
Just think, if Marvel has stuck with it, the game could've piggybacked on the MCU success and had film tie-in plots etc. It would've been pretty amazing if they'd randomly snapped half of every player's characters after Endgame. -
City of Heroes Things you find annoying
Grouchybeast replied to hyacathinose's topic in General Discussion
On the other hand, suppose you were playing a Dual Pistols blaster and you pull a leeeeetle bit too much Crey aggro by jumping into a group without, for example, checking there was another spawn above and another spawn just around the corner, And you get off a good few shots but they're taking you down, and right before the last hit point vanishes your nuke comes back up and your fire it off. So as you're faceplanting, the nuke animation is still going off around you, and Crey are dropping left right and centre until there are only a handful left, so you can rez, do the spinny kick thing and then finish off the last couple of power tanks with a shot and a kick to the face. That might be fun. -
*Request* Selling Incarnate Salvage
Grouchybeast replied to Joshex's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Sure, until the incarnate system is expanded another level or two, and suddenly everyone who vendored their spare incarnate junk for 5,000 inf a piece is really, really sad. -
Woot! I'll be there!

Newbie Questions Compiled into one neat post
Grouchybeast replied to hyacathinose's topic in General Discussion
Also, CoX isn't a game where you need to get to the level cap so you can start playing the 'real' content. Most of the content in CoX is between levels 1-50, and for most of the game's history the endgame for many people consisted of rolling a new character and starting again. What 50+ content there is was added towards the end of the game's life, and while it does exist in part, its development was unfortunately cut short. On the other hand, there are tons of story arcs, task/strike forces etc below 50, and it would be a shame to miss them. -
Yellow salvage would be a terrible point to try to choke the supply. There's a basically unlimited supply of yellow salvage capped at 100k, which adds the value of approximately 1 extra enhancement converter to IO roulette. If anyone actually thinks they could affect the amount of rolling going on like that...well, good luck to them, I guess.

More storage in Super Group bases.
Grouchybeast replied to cjnyc49's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
You can have multiple salvage racks, too! The limitation on base storage is simply that you can have a maximum of 18 of the storage items in a base, in any combination. So a total of 18 of any mix of salvage racks, enhancement tables and inspiration stores. -
Kronos Titans or bust!

General Feedback: Page 5 Build 5
Grouchybeast replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
In this case, though, it's true that every set in the game with pseudopets is already getting the same level of effort and attention applied. Every set is part of this rebuilding of the pseudopet system. Every set is being moved over to the new system where pseudopets intrinsically inherit the numbers from their parent AT. There is no singling out of these particular two or three powers, because the tiny handful of visible changes are literally incidental to the substantial amount of code work being done across the board. -
*Request* Selling Incarnate Salvage
Grouchybeast replied to Joshex's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Money in MMOs never gets scarce. The more inf sinks, the better. -
Good news! From the patch notes for the next update, currently on the test server: All players can now move through Mastermind henchmen and push them out of the way, not just their owners. So it'll be available when the next Page hits the the live servers, in the hopefully near future. \o/

There are, roughly, 100 slots on a level 50 character. Let's be generous and assuming that every slot needs filling with something that takes at least as much to craft as a rare recipe. So you would need roughly 200 pieces of common salvage, 100 pieces of yellow salvage and 100 pieces of rare salvage to make a full build and 100 recipes Would you expect more or fewer than 200 pieces of common salvage to drop over the entire levelling career of a character? Would you expect more or fewer than 100 pieces of uncommon salvage to drop over the entire levelling career of a character? Would you expect more or fewer than 100 pieces of rare salvage to drop over the entire levelling career of a character? Would you expect more or fewer than 100 recipes to drop over the entire levelling career of a character? If there are 'artificially' high prices, then they benefit every single person who sells items on the market, especially the low level characters, who have the potential to make far more margin by crafting and selling drops than level 50 characters. Oh, but what if all my drops aren't Luck of the Gambler +7.5% Rech, you ask? Well, luckily, the cheap and easy converter rolling on HC means that your vendor junk (yes, sir, you at the back -- your vendor junk!) can become valuable IOs to sell to fund your build. Remember also that you can always get the same price that a flipper pays by bidding their price +1 inf and waiting. All you need to do is to have some patience, and you can save any hypothetical flipper's entire margin simply by bidding and waiting. Bid and wait. That's the real one weird trick that marketeers don't want you to know* for how to use the market. Bid, and wait. *This is a lie. You literally can't stop marketeers from rushing up and telling you all their money making tips the moment you show the slightest interest. It's much harder to get the market forum to shut up about how to make money than it is to make money on the market.

More storage in Super Group bases.
Grouchybeast replied to cjnyc49's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This might just be an issue with the phrasing, but you know you can have multiple racks and enhancement tables in a base? They don't work like the personal storage vault base access, rather each table or rack holds 99 separate items. -
I think you misunderstood. They're planning to buff TW by giving all its attacks KB.

I don't think the earthy toil of crafting commons could ever dare lay claim the superior label of true ebil. The most it can aspire to is ordinary garden-variety evil.

This has just reminded me of the way I made a lot of money on live, which was crafting and selling basic IOs. It's the one thing that works much less well here, I guess because of the free attuning means people slot sets at lower levels. Double XP weekends were enormous fun. I used to spend the whole weekend running from the base to WW, crafting and stocking. Does that still count as evil profiteering if I put a sufficiently colossal markup on them?

I'm definitely willing to consider some kind of drop bug at this point, unless there's a new AE farming trick that's making people turn off normal drops and go back to tickets. (Although on live that had a very distinctive pattern of crashing orange salvage prices and driving up yellow.) There's a definite and easily demonstrable current bug with mission complete xp, so at least one wacky thing is going on with rewards.
-
No one ever talks about sale prices, though. This was true on the old forums. People only ever complain about how expensive things are to buy, they're never happy about how much their drops sell for, The economy on HC treats low level characters so well, now, what with low-level recipes being more profitable to craft and attuned IOs costing no more than regular ones. Unless lots of people are turning off all drops, PLing to 50 and then expecting to be able to outfit a character with thin air? Who knows.

The yellow salvage increase adds, at most, the price of one extra converter to the craft-roll total. It seems weird that that would have a massive impact on people's willingness to roll.

I play blasters, and I love Bonfire with the KD proc, but if it gets rebalanced at some point well, them's the breaks. I try not to get too attached to what's clearly an OP niche interaction between two things that are otherwise individually perfectly fine. Rather, I look on it as a fun bonus to a build, not something I'd construct a character around. Like with PB and Farsight, if the devs decide that KD Bonfire needs a look, it would make much more sense to me for them to decide to trim back the ridiculous outlier than expect that everything else gets buffed to match it.

Or to put it another way: If you want to walk into WW (I know, I know, /ah) and slap down a pile of your farmer inf for an IO at buy it nao prices, then flipping is, to a greater or lesser amount, lowering the amount that you'll pay. If you want to hoard your farmer inf and be patient, then you will need to offer exactly one more inf than the price the flipper is paying, and you'll get your single IO before they get their hundred.

I've been duoing in a fire/fire brute ice/ice corr combo, and it's been excellent. The corr is great for taking down AVs, and it really feels like playing two damage dealers rather than damage and support.

I volunteer for verification duty. Anyone wanting to join the SG can send the inf to me and I'll count it. Obviously, it will take me a while to count a hundred billion infs by hand, so I might not be able to send it back right away. But I am very trustworthy, and can provide impeccable references from several alts.
