well, I'm pretty sure Freedom was the most populated server and Virtue was the 2nd most populated server a year before the shutdown. I can't tell you what was going on after that. That's when I cancelled my subscription and stopped playing. lol.
-
Well Liberty wasn't the 2nd most populous server - that's for sure. At one point, I was in a villain group called the Crazy 88s on Triumph. I'm assuming it wasn't the same group or, at least, I wasn't in it at the time you are talking about. The one I was in didn't have many members and the leader of the villain group didn't play very often. So rarely in fact did anyone play in the VG that one time I logged on I was made the SG leader. Next time I logged onto the character (which was probably a month or so later), I got an angry message from the person that had been VG leader threatening that I better give them the VG leader position back. Yeah, right. I quit the VG. And, based on how the system worked, the next character in the VG that logged in would have become the new VG leader. It wasn't like my character was dressed up like a member of the Crazy 88's at any rate. I can't even remember why whoever invited that character to the VG.

I think that happened on Friday, November 30, 2012, @Yomo Kimyata Did you miss it? I'm not looking forward to that happening again. I hope you aren't actually looking forward to that either. -
Unpopular idea - alternate group wide player buffing.

I do a lot of alt jumping and standardizing control setting for all characters go a long way. Layout explanation new tray position/layout For the shields, if teammates are near one another - one caste will shield all those within range. When running a shielding character, I generally open the team Icons so I can see who wasn't shielded before activating a shielding power for the 2nd time. 👍 -
I only sell to the auction house. It is for the good of the community to do so. Selling to a vendor - *poof* - that thing is gone forever. Common salvage at giveaway price. Uncommon and rare salvage at a price that I normally pay for it (above market) because there have historically been times when there have been runs on the market for certain classes of salvage. Recipes Common non-set? dirt cheap. IO sets? I try to get above what the bottom-line buyer is posting. I generally don't sell the other stuff that I would consider to be "loot" - aka "drops" from defeated foes.

This is very useful guidance. I don't think I've ever done this. I'm not worried how long it takes to finish a mission or task force as the team composition rarely makes a huge difference on completion speed. I just point out that being a rush-in isn't always to best way to go. The room that most comes to my mind on this Posi 1 part 4, when you go up the steps into the room with 4 mobs in it. Someone generally rushes in and agros all 4 mobs. It doesn't need to happen. Pulling a mob at a time onto the stairway goes much smoother, but then ... every 3-6 times - someone is going to rush up to the doors of City Hall on the final mission before the team is ready so .... 👍

well maybe not the last.

When you are using the flying carpet, rocket board, or void skiff none of your powers are functional. The toggle powers don't detoggle so you don't have to fiddle with turning them back on every time you stop using the flying carpet - but they don't do anything while you have the flying carpet active. not that I know of. There are ways to mod sounds and visual effects, but only you and those using those mods would see them the way that the mod has changed them. That being said, I don't fiddle with mods so I don't know if there is one of the magic carpet or not.

https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/D.U.S.T._Ranger_Badge Elite Ranger Auto: Self +Dmg (All), +ToHit, +Range Your damage, ToHit, and Range have been increased slightly due to your training from your Day Job. The Elite Ranger day job power grants +2% ToHit, +8% Damage, and +10% Range. Before a character earns this badge: For every 2 hours logged out, a character gains 1 minute duration, up to a maximum of 2 hours duration. After a character earns this badge: For every 1.4 hours logged out, a character gains 1 minute duration, up to a maximum of 2 hours duration. 'Nuff said I try to make sure that the following stay over 15 charges: Revive Ally Vitalize Rune of Purification That being said, I alway purchase all the teleports from the P2W/START vendor when I create a character. I still do try to get Rapid Response Member on all my characters and have some charges on both the individual and portal base-teleports. When I first create a character at this point, I'm generally going for the Hospital-Caregiver/University-Professor or the Shadow Shard for the flight pack (if I don't intend on getting a flight travel power - max charge = 2 hours of toggle active - I only recharge this once it gets below 15 minutes of charge). Historically, before Day Jobs were added to the game, I used to park characters in different places in THE CITY related to their character creation. One used to park in a chimney so they could rocket out of it upon log-in. Now, once some Day Jobs are trained up and charged, 90% park at the D.U.S.T. Training Facility because I don't tend to play more than 2 hours at a time per character.

This is the problems with sleep. At some point, I really want to get a "Sandman" team together that uses Sleeps and single target attacks only with everyone attacking through the team lead. I think I can make that happen as I have a couple of friends that I game with a couple of times a week on themed teams, but I honestly don't know when or if we will get around to a "Sandman" team, but I have always thought that sleep powers could be extremely powerful if they were used by a team that respected the power and utilized it to its fullest potential. So, I guess what I'm saying here, is that - unless you can use sleep to gain containment damage for a controller - sleep powers are pretty useless on PuGs.

Are you talking about big open area missions or indoor/cave missions? I always have a long distance power in slot 9 and a short distance travel power in slot 0 in the active tray. So ... Slot 9 - Rocket Board/Magic Carpet/Void Skiff, Day Job Flight Pack from the Shadow Shard, Mystic Flight, Flight, Super Jump, Speed of Sound, Super Speed, or Teleport. Slot 0 - Ninja/beast/athletic, transform (panther or coyote), hover, or infiltrate. indoors and in caves, I'm using Slot 0. In large open area missions, I'm switching between the two. And it basically comes down to using the long distance move power to get to the target area and then the short distance travel power to move up to outside of the range where an enemy group would react. When I'm fighting, unless I'm flying around with a ranged character, I'm going to have my travel powers turned off. Combat Jumping goes into my tray of toggle powers. If I have that, it's always on. It helps with traveling, but I'm always going to want it on for the defense (I don't apply the same to hover. Most of my character fight while they are standing on the ground.)

[OPEN BETA] Patch Notes for February 24th, 2024
UltraAlt replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Patch Notes
Not if we never bothered to lock them. Hopefully, there is an option to swap them back if we don't like it. Might be good for new players, but for those of us with muscle-memory trained to the way that it was is another thing. -
I do think that there is a much larger percentage of players that check out CoH forums than those that spend time in other gaming forums. I haven't played a ton of other MMORPGs but I have played a few, and the above would be my conclusion. Also that many are more likely to be on the forums on the weekends versus during the week.
-
I very much agree with this statement. The problem almost alway comes down to not wanting to follow the original (which is being done in another medium because that was popular) because it isn't "cool" or "modern" enough or won't pull in a wide enough demographic. I can even apply that to reconning in many cases.

Yeah, I love using ki push. When I run a dual pistols I put ki push on auto fire with a recharge and a knockback (+2 accs) and, if it is in character conception, I put in the winter melee proc with a chance for hold.

You're a game player like me (verus end-game) - if I recall correctly. If you are a Blaster and tend to get mezed you are going to want both your tier 1 and tier 2 primary because of the inherent. Defiance allows a blaster to use their tier 1 and 2 primary powers, and their tier 1 secondary power, even while held, slept, stunned, or terrorized. It also gives an additional damage boost as the blaster uses attacks. On the other archetypes, I end up getting both pistols and dual wield. I tend to want as much focus fire as I can get. Both are quick recharges so are good for procs. I think it is the disorient/stun or hold effect is the main advantage for suppressive fire. It may seem like it isn't very useful, but 3 seconds can be a long time in a fight. It would likely stop that target from making a couple of attacks that can really make a difference. Couple it with the slow effect of the Cryo rounds, and you are slowing down the opponent's attack rate even more. But I do understand that you are looking at this from the damage side. Aren't there less enemies with toxic defense/resist than fire defense/resist? (I thought I read that some place, but, you know, old and dream of CoH)

That's better. As has been pointed out to me in the past, a none-of-the-above option is always good. Not much traction yet. We need to make sure to update this a couple times over the weekend. Feel free to respond to me once a day and I'll reply to help keep it showing up on recent posts.

lol. well. yeah. all those options are pretty much slanted. good luck with that. And, no. I did not vote because there are no options that are relevant to my position.

Thanks For The Gift, Can I Give It Back?
UltraAlt replied to Rudra's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Okay, but it does top the effect of patrol xp other than debt. I don't expect you to. I don't think it is worth the DEVs time to deal with it, and, yeah, you won't change my stance on this either. I give up. I haven't been trying to argue with you or start a fight. -
Thanks For The Gift, Can I Give It Back?
UltraAlt replied to Rudra's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I don't remember it. I apologize. Perhaps with someone else. Okay, so you are against it for the xp and acknowledge that the situation can be resolved by turning off XP. It seems that option exists, so I'm really not seeing the reason for all the animosity projected at it. We can't turn off the bonus server XP either unless we turn off XP. A this point, I do turn off xp on some characters because I figure - by character conception - that they have hit their "cap" or that I don't outlevel content or to stop from reaching level 50. I have the ability to turn xp off, so their patrol xp makes no difference. I suggest since we already have a tool to turn off xp gain, that we use it. Also, you already state that you know how to get rid of patrol xp if you really don't want it by letting your character get defeated until it is gone. Not to argue, but It seems that all the bases are covered. You know I try to support you in many situations. This is one that I can't. I think putting up a poll and having a significant sign that there are sufficient number of players to make this something for the DEVs to look into would support your case. That's why I suggested it. -
Alright, DEFINITELY a question for the general population.
UltraAlt replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Roleplaying
but positive answer in the poll is "Yes (Genre, frequency or type doesn't matter.)" I figure creating and playing by character conception and having a bio is role-playing, but now I'm not sure if you think that counts or not. I may have threw off your poll numbers ... When I'm talking to people on the phone at work, I feel like I'm role-playing. Does that count? Years ago, before CoH, I did a lot of RPG gaming with multiple gaming systems and some work. I only have had a very limited exposure to LARPing, and it seemed kind of silly and tedious. I did some of the medieval recreation stuff, but more on the eating, drinking, and bashing people in armor stuff versus any serious RP of the said characters at such events - even though people supposedly had personae for said events. And then there was independent "pirate" television stuff for public-access cable tv before youtube. Where exactly is the line drawn between RP and free-form acting? -

UltraAlt replied to Rudra's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Usually, I can get where you are coming from, but I seriously don't understand this one. Are you intentionally trying to gain debt or something? er... okay ... so are you against day jobs as well? Maybe you should make a poll. I think there are more people against farming then there are against patrol xp. I would even wager there are more people upset about not getting the old Wentworth's teleport for the day job for parking in Wentworths ... and that's saying a lot then there is /ah -
I made a new character this AM. REST didn't populate into my tray(s) when it was earned. I had to open up the power window, and pull it down into the tray. I didn't read all the contact stuff. Maybe the trainer told me that REST had been given to me but it it was in the power window and needed to be pulled down to the power tray..
