  1. Stuff that's definitely Public Domain is allowed, stuff that's partially Public Domain aren't. So some countries have 50 years from date of first publication, America has 95 years. Then there is the 70 years from the death of the author. Doc Savage will (possibly) be PD in 2029 or 2030, but there is still some doubt as the copyright was renewed in the 60's, and Tarzan is PD as the first few books entered PD in January 2024. My advice? Avoid this minefield and create something that's similar but different. Doc Delilah is an obvious Doc Savage tribute for instance. There is nothing from stopping you making a pulp era character based on Tarzan or Doc Savage or any number of popular characters from the 30's. TV does it all the time. Just keep the level of similarity far enough away that you fall under the tribute/parody rule. As for Trademark, that's a whole different kettle of fish. We generally don't allow other peoples trademarks as a rule. Wendy is fine. Wendy's isn't. Old MacDonald is allowed, MacDonalds isn't. While a controller dressed in spandex would never be mistaken for a restaurant chain we still don't allow it. Hope that clears up any confusion.
  2. people still hang around to farm Adamastor? Do they know you only get rewards for him every 18 hours?
  3. I had the same. I had the name on Defiant and someone else had it on a different server and they were demanding I give it to them. They apparently had it on every shard except Reunion and wanted the set. It was a big fat no from me. Later as a GM we would get the occasional ticket demanding we took a name off someone and it was always a flat out nope. You can ask someone nicely if they will give it to you, or even offer them lots of inf, but they have every right to keep the name and no is a complete sentence 🙂
  4. For a lot of people they had names on live they can't get because someone else got in first. Hopefully this will help at least some of those players. Unless the player holding the name got the alt to 50, then it's sad faces all round.
  5. Some people have dozens, if not hundreds of alts under level 10 they haven't logged in for months or years. There has been plenty of warning that we are going to implement the policy, and plenty of time to start logging the alts in if you don't want the chance of someone sniping the name. Chances are most names are safe anyway. Unless it's something incredibly obvious you were lucky enough to get in the first month or two of the game starting up then the chances of someone taking the name is low, but not zero.
  6. You need to do several missions before they allow you to call them
  7. <pokes head over the top of the monitor> "What food? I'm easily bought with Chinese food and cake"
  8. Would it make it any easier if I told you "I don't know?"
  9. Pizza works too, as long as you don't put pineapple on it
  10. You need to go to the game account management page and change your password https://forums.homecomingservers.com/account/ Type the new password in the first box, type it in the second box to confirm, voila!!
  11. I mostly avoid council as I hate their maps so haven't actually met any on the new difficulty
  12. I do it a lot when someone is a jerk to my dogs. "Did the nasty man say bad things to you? That's because he's a fuckwit and will die alone"........ "I'm talking to my dog, do you mind?"
  13. I can't imagine it being an issue. You aren't AFK during the raid itself, you just want to get in early and not get logged out. I assume you quit the TF to join the raid and enjoy a bit of jelly action. Sounds quite sensible to me.
  14. Also a GM not a lead or admin!! We aren't monsters. We aren't going to kick someone sitting quietly in a corner doing no harm and not getting in the way, even if for some reason they are AFK for hours. I've done it myself for damage received badges, standing AFK in a fire and going shopping. When I come back a few hours later, Voila!! The badge!! You may have a good reason to be AFK. You might have forgotten to log off and gone to answer the phone then gone out and not come back until the next day. As long as you aren't causing lag in the murder hotel or are in the way of a portal, we'll probably just leave a tell as a welfare check and hope you reply at some point. (Please reply, we worry).
  15. That sounds like most threads by around page three 😛
  16. locking this thread as it seems to be going nowhere
  17. I've passed your thanks on to Manga. I'm so glad you are sorted, and it's something I've not come across before so I'll keep it in mind moving forward
  18. I remember drinking that in my youth. It also doubled as a rather good drain cleaner
  19. As Koopak says, this issue was investigated by Cipher who determined that using diagnostic tools on the test server is perfectly acceptable. Perhaps there was some unintentional confusion around the methodology, but that's what the test server is for. As long as the process using outside tools is kept to the test server then it's fine. Using macro's is allowed on all shards and servers, and there is no sign of outside app automation to try to cheat the system. I get it, it's an emotive issue. Botting and cheating to get big numbers is always going to make people upset, but from what I can see real life human interaction seems to give the same or better results. Laucianna and Americas Angel (to name just a couple of the well known players) do incredibly well and leave the rest of us (or at least me) face down in the dirt. Much as I enjoy playing Kheldians I'll never achieve the skill necessary to get close to their power. I have great builds, I've spent a lot of inf making my Khelds as good as I can get them, but the human factor kicks in and I have to bow to the experts.
  20. It's a manual thing so we pinged the people responsible. When I say days or weeks it's often immediate, but it's a high level admin thing so if a combination of circumstances happens then it can take a while.
  21. Spoke to Manga and for Mac they suggest moving to LaunchCat and only using Island Rum if LaunchCat doesn't work for you https://launchcat.powermadsoftware.com/
  22. Tequila isn't supported so the manifest can be days or weeks before it's deployed. Swap to the launcher for instant access.
  23. I personally hate group fly as I always forget to turn it off at Null until it's too late. I also hate speed boost and ditto. Then I'm stuck in a TF until it's over. A simple "anyone mind group fly?" would solve that problem most of the time. And yes, the majority hate it. I cringe when I see a bots MM join as it seems to only be them that use it all the time. As for team leads, they have full authority over the team. If they have asked someone not to do something, like group fly, teleporting enemies away from the tank, massive knockback powers etc and they continue then they have the right to kick who they like. GM's won't interfere. Some team leads have odd ideas, but the majority are normal sensible people.
  24. I've pinned this post as it's terribly useful
  25. I'm in the UK so a lot of that is a mystery to me. We don't automatically go to college or University, and we don't have school shootings. We rarely if ever even have an incident on school property. I agree with you on house prices, but again not as bad over here. I bought my first house 8 years ago for £92K. I sold the family home for £120K (I had to split it with my sister) as it was very run down so someone got a fixer upper and a bargain, and my mortgage is £400 a month. Similar houses in my street have gone up to around £140K in those 8 years. I'm on just over UK minimum wage (what's called the real living wage) which translates as $16.00 an hour and work 44 hours a week, and can pay my utilities and car loan and internet with some left over for the odd takeaway and treat. Plus I pay a small tax of around £1000 for full medical coverage and no co-pay or refusal for existing medical conditions. My food bill is around £100 a month (around $130). Food prices are much lower here. A gallon of milk (6 pints) is £1.50 and a loaf of bread is around 50p. We do University tuition loans differently. You don't pay anything if you earn less than £25K then you pay a percentage of your income above that amount. It's also forgiven after 20 years if it's not fully paid off. I think the idea that our parents were better off than us can be misleading. My parents bought their first house after I was born, and it was a small 2 bed with no running water. There was a single toilet in the yard used by 5 houses and a tap outside everyone got their water from. As a child I remember times when money was so tight we had bread and jam for dinner as there was no money to buy anything else till Friday, even when both my parents worked. It was only later that I realised mom saying "No you eat it, I'm not hungry" was mom talk for "I can feed you or I can feed me, I can't feed us both" and going without food to make sure my sister and I were fed. Changes in social housing has really taken us back to those days. Everything now is private landlords, and social housing is really hard to find. Normal working class people in both our countries find it hard to even pay rent, and can't get a mortgage despite the mortgage payments generally being lower than the rent they are paying. I'd be paying 3 times as much if I was renting this house instead of buying it. Every generation faces challenges, I don't see that changing any time soon unfortunately.
