Now you're being unfair. We have light moderation compared to some places and prefer players to use their voices. We only interfere when it gets nasty. I've seen GM's attacked on this and other threads to the point I don't know which one is which any more. Cipher has responded, which is almost unheard of, and Widower as well. We don't have the assets, staff, time or facility to do what you want so we get attacked. I've been a GM for almost 5 years now and anyone who has ever had contact with me will tell you I'm extremely fair. I'll spend hours trying to fix an individual problem and work with someone to sort out their issue. I'm a very silly person who loves to have banter with players and do very daft things just to brighten someone elses day. And you know what? The rest of the GM team are people I'm proud to call my friends and colleagues. There isn't a bad one in the bunch. Every one of them, from the novice GM's to the devs to Cipher are volunteers and give their free time to a project they love with all their heart, even though their real life is incredibly busy. We don't dismiss rude and abusive behaviour, we just don't telegraph our actions and hold public lynchings. What we do or don't do is between the player and staff. We have sanctions that range from a quick "Hey mate, that came across as a bit harsh" DM's to warnings and points, to short bans, long bans and permanent bans. If anyone finds out the actions we took it won't be from us, but the downside is it looks like we aren't paying attention. someone gets a week long ban and for them it's upsetting and awful. For everyone else it looks like they've been a way for a week. Then we get complaints that X was reported 2 weeks ago and is still about. Of course they are still about, their ban wore off. We aren't going to say that though.

I live near @Lauciannaso I'll have to ask her if I can tag along. Of course we are more than five thousand miles away, so the cost might be somewhat high. I'll see what Cipher puts as the monthly donation for January 😛

We are also in contact with some of the original staff from the old days, though they aren't involved in running the game. When the licence was granted they broke anonymity and joined in the celebration events as their original signature characters. Many of them play on anonymous player accounts but are so busy with their own careers they don't have much time to actually play. To be honest I was as much a fan boy as everyone else and being able to talk to them was a thrill I'll remember forever. Getting their blessing and listening to them being so complementary about the direction we have taken the game was just so amazing.

They have different responsibilities. Cipher is big boss and responsible for everything, Number Six and Telephone are our tech people and throw out hot fixes, plus oversee the server reboots. There are some over the devs, and some over other Servers. Globetrotter is both top boss of Vanguard and immediate overlord of the GM team. (All hail my spherical overlord!!). Michiyo is incredible and does a lot of work including things like the Modding tool and total overlord of Victory. The others have similar responsibilities and I don't understand half of what they do. When they start talking my eyes glaze over and I back away quickly in case I spook them (they are like deer, if you spook them they scatter) 😛 Outside of Globetrotter and Michiyo I don't really have much to do with the CC unless the servers on fire. They are always about, and they play the game as much as any of us, but they don't micro manage or interfere too much.

Take part, don't take part. Nobody is forcing you. I personally don't care about it so I don't do it. I carry on playing as normal and enjoy the enjoyment of others.

I missed the pre-ED by a few months when I started but people were very angry at the time. The characters were wildly unbalanced and very OP (code for fun to play) but inventions did help to balance characters out. Anyone who has a fire farmer knows how situational an unbalanced character can be, but phenomenal in the area they are built for. My fire farmer zips through +4/8 fire farms like everything is made of tissue paper, but put it in a real game situation and it dies if you sneeze on it.

Be grateful it even works at all. I was talking to a dev a long time ago now and he said he looked at the system to see if he could change it to work better then when he saw the code he backed away quietly so as not to spook it 😛

I have to fall on the side if "why??". It looks like a shot for shot remake of the original which is already perfect. I'm not sure what having real actors in place of animated actors is going to bring to it. I'm sure it will be great, but only because the original was great. I just don't see the point.

And don't forget the mission transporter. "Oh you want me to go from Steel Canyon to the depths of the Shadow Shards? Well I could go to PI. through the portal, buy a jet pack, fly slowly to the next portal, fly slowly to the mission, or I could just click this button".
