  1. Not really though. I explained why it's different, as Shardwarrior does below. They went after a company making money off of them, skindex.net or something, not Freedom Force or The Sims. Both of them are still solid franchises, and skindex is non-existent.
  2. I like the idea a lot. Like SeraphimKensai said, you will feel underpowered on teams, but possibly overpowered against GMs and AVs solo. Whether it is worth the trade-off or not is up to you.
  3. No sweat man. I'm guilty of that too, we all are.
  4. And offered them a personalized commemorative pic of Spiderman, for and to their son. I think that was a nice way of saying "We can't do that, but we would love to do this for you."
  5. Sorry, but you'll have to post some links to them suing families. I am not aware that's the case, and don't want to speculate on a faulty premise.
  6. It's a specific policy of Walt Disney regarding use of his property on headstone and memorials.
  7. This is more of a "if they did this, they'd do that" type argument. Not actually a precedent one, which is more normally "if they did this to them, they will do this to you".
  8. Wait a minute, you're talking about Marvel shutting down the site that made skins for Freedom Force, aren't you @ed fray? For those that didn't play it or don't remember, Marvel did go after a site that made skins for Freedom Force, and I think they won that suit. The reason it doesn't apply here at all though is, the company at the time was *selling and distributing* said skins. Marvel sued them for making a profit of their IP, and rightfully so in my mind. This is not akin to what's going on here though, and didn't really impact Freedom Force itself, just the third party skin creation site. I mean, you can purchase and play Freedom Force on Steam today, and if you haven't I'd suggest you give it a shot if you've got the time and money.
  9. This may be the issue. I seem to recall a thread a while back where playing in Windowed Mode was causing all sorts of crashes and long loads. Moreso, I had a friend who suffered through this for months, going so far as to switch OS, several reinstalls and such. Ended up suggesting he switch to Fullscreen, instant fix. May not be your issue, but if you get the time try to play it in Fullscreen and see if it works?
  10. Absolutely, I think I mentioned it in another thread last week. That was a hella-fun game, although very very campy which eventually wore on me. What's the matter of contention with it? I played it and the sequel IIRC.
  11. If you must necro, at least do it as an MM.
  12. Hey, I'm a firm believer that this is possible, you could have a character that predates whatever copyright by a company that may exist. One of my favorite characters back on live was a character for our Knights of the Redneck Republic SG, who I named Darth Tater. Never seen it anywhere else, and I decked him out in some camo and made a long story about him learning the ways of Sith agriculture. Just a joke character, but as an earth/kin controller I played him a lot from about issue 5 until it closed down. Sometime right before it did close down, Darth Tater Mr. Potatohead dolls hit the shelves. Did they copy me? Probably not, they never even saw me or the character? Did I copy them? Unlikely since I'd never seen it, and still think I predated it by more than few years.
  13. I didn't have time to reply before lunch, but man I really get this (in response to Munki's post about being non-creative, which I apparently did not quote). I've known people that wanted really badly to be (insert creative career here) in life, but did not really have that ability. I knew a guy who went all the way through graphic design in college, and passed through despite his inability because he'd never leave otherwise. To some extent I am this way too. I've wanted to be an author since I was a kid, because books have had such a large impact on me. And some things I can write and do well with, but it's not novels nor will it ever really be. I can come up with ideas, but the implementation of ideas to an actual creative medium escapes me. I'm sure are people here who are kids, who don't have that creative flair and just really want to play a claws/regen scrapper named wolvvverine. Or people who don't have the flair overall and just want to play the game. While this forum doesn't really map well to what people say and do in the live game, it would bother me if either of those were given any grief. You just can't tell from looking at a character how hard they tried, or what they are working with. Not to shame anyone, just be careful when making judgments like this overall; there's always an outlier, and sometimes it's a pretty big population that got painted with that brush undeservedly.
  14. On it today Munkilord. Please stop, you don't need this much reputation do you?
  15. I made my first Defender Proc Monster, to go with some Controller and Corruptor ones. I ended up going TA/Water, since TA was so well represented here and I think Water has some really good promise with it. It's working out pretty well right now, just having issues trying to find some defense in it. But it definitely does not feel like the TA I used to play on live, and Acid Arrow is an absolute beast of a power, as well as Ice Arrow. Not sure what I'm doing with Oil Slick just yet, it's a hard power to proc since it needs recharge and damage first.
  16. If you were a kid during the eighties, and didn't stand on posts practicing your crane kicks, I'm not sure I want to know ya.
  17. Oh I am not too worried about it Steampunkette. I've given away probably half a billion or more already, so I think I've done enough to assuage that feeling. Time will tell, right? And the rest? Well let's just say I've got 5 fully IO'd characters and two more in the works. I don't feel bad enough to unslot them lol.
  18. Look, you both know the real answer to that last question is either Luke Skywalker, or Daniel-san, the Karate Kid.
  19. I haven't had much to say on the Hami changes. I just found out today that they were live. I've run hami the past two months more times than I could count, probably running it 4 nights out of the week. About a month ago I stopped breaking whatever I was doing to run it, because even thought the merits were great, it really got old doing this with no risk. Only twice I've done it where we messed up and triple bloomed. I'm sure if Foxfyre is saying it was getting boring too, a lot of other people who don't frequent this forum felt the same. The only thing that bothers me personally, is that I had the chance to make a couple billion inf easily over the last few months, and now others will not. It doesn't bother me that they corrected a wrong, and I believe them that they did, but that it's given me an unfair advantage over others. I just don't like it much, but that has more to do with me personally than any dev choice.
  20. Bet. I'll try to get there tonight or tomorrow a bit early and park my butt. Thanks!
  21. I've been out of town and busy with my kid's sports, so I've not played much lately or done Hami in a week or two. I'm going to have to make time this coming week to do it the old way with yall Foxfyre. Still the same tentative time on Excelsior?
  22. We all do that. Sometimes when I'm getting bombarded in game with questions about slotting, pine's, unique IO's, incarnates, and stuff like that I want to yell at folks, "You have the same resources I do, look it up!" So you are not abnormal in this at all. I think for me, since I work a reference service point every day just to keep me on my toes with how people search, I'm a bit more inured to it.
  23. True. And I shouldn't be so flippant, new folks are probably not aware of the older threads debating this, and might not think to search for them. Also, we have had some GM's chiming in so it's not exactly a thread that went nowhere. But man, something in my stomach flips a little when I log in and see a new one.
  24. This. again? What are we going to cover here that we didn't cover during May and June?
  25. I mean, it used to work this way. But that was pre-incarnates, and honesty before a lot of things. Sometimes a room is too packed and a tanker or brute might herd a few, but it's more like jumping into one group and pulling them onto the second one. Breaking line of sight, corner pulls, and most of that just is not efficient anymore when you've got a good team. Especially if you're actually farming, where it becomes a good way to get less xp per minute. I'm not saying I wouldn't do that, but I am saying I probably wouldn't stick around for a second one if that's the way it rolled.
