Full Circle (Arc ID: 32263) Have a whale of a "time."
cranebump replied to cranebump's topic in Mission Architect
Thanks, Kyksie. Appreciate the feedback. The Mobius Strip: I’m trying to edge into this concept over various arcs, with the Strip being the linchpin, while keeping the arcs mostly self-contained. The issue is having to drop in the basic info about what the Strip is somewhere in every arc, so that skipping one doesn’t affect the other. I think that’s a definite contributing factor to possible info overload. On the other hand, I’m hoping, when it’s all done, that someone who does go through all the stories will catch the links and references to previous events in other arcs, and get a sense of history from that. For example, the arc I’m currently scripting alludes to the villain group in “Ordinary People,” offering an explanation about what made ostensibly good people turn bad. People who just want to knock heads without all the meta plot may not dig that, so that may be a barrier to getting folks into the arcs. I dunno. It’s just the story I want to tell, so I’m doing my best to tell it, while hoping I can create strong, discrete arcs that include some sense of investment and decent characters. As for “Real Roleplayers” being honked off that I put thoughts in their head, well...sorry. Story telling in AE is, among other things, problem solving. We’re character-limited by those little boxes. You make choices as to how to best use that space to achieve your goals. Besides, you can’t really roleplay without an active exchange. The script isn’t a GM, unfortunately. So, that criticism, while valid, is something I’m just going to have to live with, In exchange for what I hope is an arc that has some strengths going for it. Appreciate the time, and feedback, as always. Happy trails. P.S.The Dagons mish was supposed to be a “here’s what happens if you fail” preview. Was this adequately explained in the post-mission text? If not, I need to fix that. -
Mainly Excelsior, though I have a healthy stable of chars on Ever. Having run there quite a bit, I don’t recall seeing any super teams go flying by. At least, not teams in matching outfits. That would make sense as a place to see it, though. Maybe I should shift more focus there.
-
On the topic of something personally fun: I think it’d be cool to run with a regular group as a “super team,” sharing our early experiences as we gained prominence. Then, after that, maybe we play the next generation of the team. Speaking of: I don’t think I’ve seen any instances of a team running in a supergroup matching uni, or even color scheme. I’m sure someone’s done it. I just haven’t seen it. It’d be kinda cool to don the team togs.

Have always enjoyed the set, particularly the AoEs, and playing it with archery (usually). It’s quick, versatile, and fun to play. Pretty sure we’re going to hear how it doesn’t stack up to X,Y and Z powersets, but I don’t think every fruit has to be an apple. I play this with Natural or Tech origin characters, “street-level” types, the allure being the emulation of a “realistic” super (well, as realistic as wacky arrows can be). Only power I have no use for is net arrow. Just seems to fade into obscurity as I level.

Chiming in: Darmian is a very good person to go to for maps, as well as details on the window dressing within them. P.S. If you do speak to him, whisper "carriage return...":-)

I could never get into it, either. Played CO for a bit. Even had an account there. But didn't enjoy running to various-sized circles on the map for most of the mishes. Also, the shorthand on characters was difficult to non-existent. On teams, couldn't tell at a glance if I was running with a tanker type, a blasty type, etc. I did like the freeform for CO, and actually could build by character concept there, a nanite-infused hero that used pistols that fired either projectiles and cables for travel (really, a sort of DP/Regen blaster, with swingline; concept being the nanites, which were self-perpetuating , could form the projectiles and the cable). But teaming. Just. Sucked. I was always all alone. Same with DCUO. The former, I didn't give a lot of time to, so perhaps that's my thing. The latter, though, I did play for a great deal of time, ran to max level and all that, and was never really satisfied with it.

Well, that would explain the business aspect of it.

I think what ultimately killed the game was a business decision? Never heard of anyone quitting because they didn't want to slog through the Hollows. Certainly never heard "droves" of complaints. Was that actually *a* thing or is it *your* thing? (P.S. Players can avoid the Hollows by going to KR at lower lvls, as well--Hollows was not automatic). Never had any problem getting teams or playing content, before or after Live. The "droves" that went to AE went there to power level, but there were still plenty of us who didn't. Still don't see a ton of AE PL'ing, but that's probably because you can do it through DFB/2XP. So, I would agree people are skipping story content now, in favor of a fast run to level 20, thus skipping some early stuff (which is the criticism this thread addresses). I would agree that AE allowed the same type of skipping content. I would offer this skipping isn't due to "poor design," but rather the usual stuff: some players just want the levels, so shortest route to them is "X." A discussion about being able to select a default/inherent travel power at level 1 is not a bad discussion (though prestige everything already allows plenty of standins that can carry a toon awhile). But wouldn't we have to decouple the travel powers from their sets?

It's always interesting to me how people use the word "objectively" to offer their subjective views. The game is much easier now, for all sorts of reasons. That said, if you want a more grindy experience, more challenge, or some such other individual way of playing, you can do that. I've done a few "self-imposed limitations" type toons since the return (only redside; solo only, unless invited; gold, to blue, to vig, to rogue, via tips only). It's there for you. Options out the wazoo. This includes "slow play" style. That said, if I wanted to run on teams with like-minded fans of traditional play, I think I'd have to organize outside the game, or perhaps dedicate an SG to the concept.

I have slots. No errors. why is Publish grayed out? (FIXED)
cranebump replied to cranebump's topic in Mission Architect
That was it alright. Easy fix. I know now to hit the test button to confirm. -
RESUBMISSION: Full Circle (Arc ID 32263) Heroic, L40 and above Time has chosen you to repair a rift in its tapestry (as have the guardians of the Mobius Strip, the Autumn Wards). But can you bind together the unraveled threads of sacrifice, heroism, and family before the Circle of Thorns tears them, and the world, apart?

Ah! Found it. It didn't flag as an error, but it says I have a mish with too many elements. Didn't see it until I attempted a test. -

I did not. The additional slots just appeared under my main account. I published one additional arc under cranebump (making it total of 4). I also attempted to publish under cranebump3, which has 3 open slots. Button was still grey. Gonna check again today to see re-confirm. -
Weekly Discussion 65: Build Your Own Powerset
cranebump replied to GM Miss's topic in General Discussion
I’d like a powerset that allows cables in some way: Swingline: swing into opponents, bowling them over (reskinned spring attack); doubles as travel power. Basically super leap with different animations; appears in same manner as Jaunt, etc.) Long Range Taser: same as taser but longer range (Der) and greater chance to stun Net (cone hold, maybe not as wide or deep as others, but enforces a hold/slow) Lasso line: single target that does hold, DoT; can switch between damage types (like Swap Ammo). Whipline: use line as single target lethal/smashing melee damage (basically a swinging chain, reskin of MM whips) Bola: either single target or cone knockdown (if electrified=“e-bola”):-) Whipchain: whirling Pbaoe. Knockdown. Razorwire: another version of caltrops. -

Made changes based on feedback. Will republish as soon as whatever it that's not allowing me to do so is fixed. -
What I play but never see another of...
cranebump replied to Jaguaratron's topic in General Discussion
Feel like the Energy/Atomic might be a great one for solo. You get the KBs and Debuffs, plus, if I remember right, some Recovery from Atomic? -
Thanks! I should be hitting the next DD installment this THU (I need a break from scripting).:-)

Full Circle (Arc ID: 32127) Heroic, L40 and above (custom baddies, canon-related, save the world, mystery) Time has chosen you to repair a rift in its tapestry (as have the guardians of the Mobius Strip, the Autumn Wards). But can you bind together the unraveled threads of sacrifice, heroism, and family before the Circle of Thorns tears them, and the world, apart? This is a self-contained arc from me (for once).:-) Feedback appreciated! NOTE: Not sold on the final map just yet. Would like to hear your experiences with spawns and mobs. Thanks in advance.

Do you get the Slow resistance with the second SS slot, or is it later on?
-
I think you may need a second Glowie, but I’d have to try it myself to see. Or maybe a map switch? In the one successful escort mish I’ve scripted (the Willie Sullivan one you’ve played), the glowie to which the escort is keyed spawns behind a sliding door. That may be a way of simulating the effect you want, though you’d have to rifle through some maps, and run enough tests to get the consistent placement (and we know how scattershot that can be).:-)

My lone attempt at a speedster is a (perpetually parked) Elec/Elec scrapper with super speed, and all the slaphappy melees I can get (sands of mu, flurry). I feel like a stalker would mimic moving too fast to be seen if you always left speed toggled on, or used appropriate auras and slotted sets that give you movement bonuses (while dropping in run enhances in your variously movement powers). Might also consider that a speedster moves too fast to be hit, so super reflexes eyed toward maximum wiffage from opponents should do it.

Low key rants? Hmmm...well... ...the blue in my rocket boots could be bluer ...the ears of the Tsoo are not 100% anatomically correct. ...I want mission doors to have more stained glass. ...power X should be more like power Y so that I can chain power Q into my Uber nuke in order to finish ITF in 3 seconds. ...and the trees don’t wave enough in the wind. (I honestly have zero complaints about the game. I’d like to be able to purchase more AE slots, but I can always make new accounts for that).
