  1. I think deception is seldom the right answer, unless it's an april fools prank, surprise party, or labeled as an experiment... I do agree that between DFB, Beginner's Luck, Origin Powers, P2W Powers, and everything else you mentioned the game is balanced just fine for the lower levels...
  2. NCSoft helped make the game a reality...Without them, who knows if Cryptic would have gotten the game public... NCSoft kept this game a reality...When Cryptic wanted/had to dump CoH to work on other related projects, NCSoft bought them out and maintained the game NCSoft didn't burn this game to the ground...We all know the MMORPG's that were so nerfed and changed by their owners that they no longer resemble the awesome game that you first liked. NCSoft just shut down, but the game they shut down was solid... NCSoft didn't declare war on you...they didn't shut the game down to get at those evil Americans. They felt it wasn't in their best interests to continue it. You can disagree with them that it would have been in their best interests (remember, your best interests aren't their problem). But if you disagree, that just means they were foolish, not evil. Not everything is a Nemesis plot. NCSoft didn't treat Homecoming as the enemy...they could just shut this down with a simple C&D order. It wouldn't too hard to do the same for Rebirth or COXG. Just because they can't go after everybody, doesn't mean they couldn't send the message to the most prolific servers I don't work for NCSoft. I don't play ANY of their other games, I don't own stock...I'm just not a fan personalizing things to the degree that they become toxic to you and the community. Think of how happier you'll be if you let all that anger go...
  3. Because IO's effectiveness are balanced against TO's up to lvl 12 I think, and DO's up to lvl 22...So if SO's become the new thing for all characters < lvl 22, then IO's are pretty much worthless at those lower levels, since they would be way underbalanced...Which means prices for everything change up and down the market. Unless you rebalance them...either way you change how they are balanced in the game... My suggestion was to start dropping DO's as a mission complete bonus and SO's for every story arc completed...It get's you access to more of them, but ultimately, for something most people fly by (the lower levels), why spend time tinkering on this?
  4. If the pack fits Clave...
  5. It's a fair statement Abraxus...but it begs the question, why post this thread at all (not your post, but the entire thread)...Rampant Speculation was the only possible outcome Hear hear for this...Agree 100%...To be clear, while my assumption was the game would move to some kind of pay model, it was not necessarily a negative thought...I won't begrudge HC at all for legally making a profit if they want to...(but I am glad they are not going in that direction)
  6. I'm not sure why you think Homecoming is a forever thing either...we know nothing about their structure, except they are volunteer hobbyists...If 2 or 3 have a major row or falling out, it could still be all over in 6 months...Or because of the great work they are doing, key people get recruited to do something else that takes them away from this...Very few things are permanent, and this isn't something I'd tie my long term hopes to, not because I don't want it to succeed, but because things are always evolving. To be clear, I want HC to succeed, and to continue to offer the game for free for the foreseeable future...
  7. If I sell a lvl 5 Acurracy SO for 4000, and want to buy a lvl 5 damage for 7000, how does that help me? If SO's become commonplace at the lower levels, than their value will drop (SO's aren't seeded in the market), but the cost of new SO's at the stores will startat 2100 for lvl 5 intangibility to 7K for lvl 5 accuracy (for comparison, a lvl 5 TO for accuracy is 576)...If the solution is to run more DFB so that you can get more SO's, then you don't need to change the game, because DFB already does that... If the solution for people at lower levels who don't run DFB to get better enhancements is to go run a few DFB, I'm really unclear on the need for this solution... Cost is always an issue, unless you have ton's of money, and then go buy IO's at lvl 7... And again, we'd have to rebalance the entire IO system if you drop TO/DO and replace with SO... You keep trying to make this sound small and easy, but it's technically complicated with giant repercussions for the lower level...
  8. Hype is great, yes...Rampant Speculation could go any number of ways We have a new secret powerset coming is different than we have a new business model coming When this gets misquoted, I want to be clear, there is no secret powerset
  9. I'll believe it when I see it @TonyV...maybe it was premature to bring it up if you guys can't share any details, since all you are doing is fueling rampant speculation.... That said, I will take you at your word, and not post to the contrary any longer...
  10. I'm sure their is an edit following this (forgive me for being so quick to respond), but you have no problem with one of the models, and are not on board with the other 2? Basically, don't like any of them?
  11. I agree this 100%...but more importantly, I love your avatar...
  12. There is almost no chance this is going to become a non-profit at this point...If it succeeds, they'll either own (in part or in whole) the rights to the game or they will pay to license the game...either way, it's a for-profit business at that point... That'll be the moment that things start changing...Subscriptions? F2P Model? Microtransactions? Who knows, but they will need a revenue stream to support themselves...
  13. This is really awesome news. Keep up the great work!
  14. That hardly sounds like a bug, that's a feature... Ouch...When you gotta have it now, you gotta have it now...
  15. I can cover you Skyhawke...I got another email from a different account that informed me I won a $1 Million Sweepstakes, we just need to cover the advance fee...If you send me the 50K, I'll forward it on, and we'll split the winnings with you 50/50. It's from [email protected], which sounds like a reliable source...I clicked the links in it, and it very helpfully took me to my online banking site so I could log in and arrange the wire transfer.... I'd send the money myself, but now I am getting a very important call from Microsoft about a virus on my computer and the Social Security Administration is calling me about my extended car warranty...
  16. Hey there, I am always happy to give you an excuse to blow some influence....my alts need a new pair of IO's you know...
  17. I'm not 100% sure who you are referring to, but I'll assume you mean me...to whit I say that I am 100% sincere in my counter-points... I think the wholesale replacement/modification of TO/DO's would be bad game policy, but I support easier access to DO/SO's as part of running missions/story arcs/exchanging reward merits...
  18. I'd also be in favor of lower the minimum level that you can buy SO's from a Reward Merit Vendor - If we can get lvl 6 SO's from DFB, no reason you can't from a merit vendor...
  19. I'm a +1 to that...But honestly, does anyone use Group Fly except for MM already? If not, just take the existing power altogether and limit it to pets
  20. I play the game the "old-fashioned way" (DFB is just as normal as doing content...it's just different). I like the early missions, I create new characters all the time and seldom run DFB... From an ease of play in the lower levels, I understand how making the Enhancements more powerful would make the game easier...While that's not my cup of tea personally, I have no beef with that, since I could just not slot the enhancements if I didn't want them. But SO's prices are scaled by lvl, and if you scaled them down to the early lvls 1-20, they would be unaffordable to any player going up the normal way compared to TO's and DO's. You could just lower the prices for them, but that would create a gigantic cliff, price wise when you hit lvl 22...unless we are lowering the prices of all SO's across the board, which just became a much different ask You could just keep the TO's, but scale them up to look more like SO's, but that devalues the SO's quite a bit, and essentially you've still done the same thing as the prior bullet I know an argument will be, "well I can always pay for them because I get Inf from playing the market or one of my alts", and my answer would be - then you can already do this, since SO's are already on sale from DFB on the market, and at lvl 7, if you have a ton of cash, you should be slotting IO's... Speaking of IO's...IO's run a curve, where at the lower levels they are just about the same as a TO, the mid levels, the same as a DO, and lvl 25+ the same as a SO (roughly). So tweaking the scale of TO/DO's would mean tweak IO's as well... I am all in favor of more SO reward drops (for completing early story arcs), and we could even expand that to having more DO drops in the earliest levels for completing missions (of any kind)...
  21. Sure....I'm not 100% that's sure...but in my case, I'm sure I could code...but how much would I have to learn to a.) Code at all b.) Code in a language friendly to CoH c.) Understand how CoH is built, in order to know how to code CoH d.) Do it well enough that I am a help, not a hindrance to a team of experienced developers... It's a nice platitude, but it's not reality
  22. Sorry...got it now...
  23. Right, but if you are playing DFB/DiB alot in the early levels, you are already only getting SO's and thus no change is needed...why fix something that already behaves the way you wish it to? If you are not playing DFB, then there is no way in hell you can afford SO's unless you are already passing millions onto your toon in the first place, and then in that case, why not just give yourself IO's at lvl 7?
  24. Didn't you already post this elsewhere?
