Mind Control/Psionic Assault, my first build
Papaschtroumpf replied to Display Name's topic in Dominator
You can put a knockback to knockdown IO in TK Thrust to get rid of the kb. The KB can be useful but is often annoying. At lvl23 I am still getting a lot of use out of my melee attacks. Looking forward to Lance. I'm enjoying the variety of controls. If you put a damage proc in a sleep power, does it negate the sleep? (TBH I haven't checked if such a proc exists) -
it's definitely possible on Homecoming, I believe my info above was straight from the release notes

Mind Control/Psionic Assault, my first build

Oh the Power Boost like effect, yeah makes sense. -
not my costume request, so you should wait to hear from the original requester, but I knolw that's where my mind went when I read the request, and I went "there is a visor accessory, and respirator filter thingy that might be a good starting point, I wonder if eye aura could somwhate approximate the light scanning back on forth in the original visor".

Mind Control/Psionic Assault, my first build

Now at level 16. So far I'm playing this like a blapper on teams. Heaving hitting melee attacks with ranged to finish off or pull. The mass sleep is mostly useless on teams with a bunch AoE but I did a few missions solo and I can see how it's nice to pick off everyone else one at a time. I got the old "please stop using confuse it steals our XP" from a teammate for the first time today :). I also let him get trashed by a boss a little later and after he got killed, use confused on the boss to tame him while I was finishing off. 🙂 TK is weird. Not worth the endurance but used the right way it could make for interesting mob positioning, pushing them in a corner for AoE, etc... -
The Cylons are the robot bad guys right? I assumed you were asking for a robot costume, along the lines of: https://images.app.goo.gl/qqwBg52vF8CQ9gmp6

Mind Control/Psionic Assault, my first build

Some good thoughts. I was suggesting RoP for its damage resist, not for the mezz resist. It's good to focus on defense first, but dmg resist and Regen can really add to a character's survivability. RoP only lasts 60s and would not be perma, but good to pop when something goes wrong with your controls for example. One of the Incarnates also provides resist I believe and could be used in alternance in high level content, although I have no experience with it. Someone advocated for Clarion Destiny, but that seemed odd to me since its main use would be for perma mezz protection which you already have with permadom. As I mentioned I'm only a lowbie and don't really have any experience with the powers. Any chance TK could be use to repel melee attackers the way I use Hurricane on my Stormie? Still doesn't seem super practical if you want to use your powerful melee attacks. I'll probably take TK while leveling just to understand its mechanism, just like I'm taking most other powers to learn about them. I'll Respec in the 30s once I have a better idea of the gameplay and can start planning for sets. -
Returning player looking for a Mind/Psi build

Does Ice Mastery have a "minimal FX" costume option? I hate the ice cube look. Possibly enough to go look somewhere else (villain pool?) Thanks for posting your build, i'll take a look -
Mind Control/Psionic Assault, my first build
Papaschtroumpf replied to Display Name's topic in Dominator
>>most people simply dismiss positional defenses as completely irrelevant and will not hesitate to tell me it's a complete waste of time what? I usually try to go for positional defense first, you get much better mitigation, although it's usually hard to get all 3 positions. My corruptor and controller have capped Ranged and AoE and find ways to stay out of melee (my corruptor perma-hovers, and my controller is stormie with hurricane on top of 25% melee def) I'm a (set bonuses) numbers guys before a Powers guy, so all the powers in the world won't do you much good if you can't get the set bonuses you want. It's often a compromise. For my playstyle, Perma-Domination is a must and will be a primary goal of my build. You can slot LOTGs in CJ, Weave and Stealth and that's it. That wouldn't do it for me. I gotta have 5 LOTGs in every build, but I think it's even more important in an AT where control powers are your mitigation but can take a while to come back up. If Mass Hypnosis is your primary Crowd Control, you need to make it perma, which is trivial. I find that Sorcery/Rune of Protection works in lot builds, so I know I will be looking at that option. My last Dominator was plant/thorn 7 years ago, so it'll take a while for me to get back in the AT. I just started my Mind/Psi (only lvl7) and I'm learning the powers as I go, so I can't really offer power choice advice. I don't think I have ever taken all the attacks in any set, I'd be surprised if they are all needed here. Drain Psyche looks like a gem At level 7 I love Mind Probe followed by TK Thrust as a way to "juggle" enemies, Nemesis Staff and Levitate being my other controls. Mass Confusion seems really expensive compared to Seeds of Confusion in Plants and can't be up every group, otherwise I am a fan of confuse powers. While not a fan of sleeps, this may indeed be a good way to go, as this character feels pretty single target compared to most of my other characters. I haven't fallen in love with the combo yet, so I will be monitoring this thread carefully to see how it goes and what kind of advice you get. AoEs with a duration effect are a good place to place procs, I could see playing around with a bunch of procs in Psychic Shockwave, in fact it could hold 4 damage procs, one ToHit Debuff and one Res Debuff proc and it's a fast recharge power. (Does it stack on itself?) Total Domination could take some procs but it doesn't last long and takes forever to recharge -
I think I mentioned it in a previous post. Vines is not up often enough, even with perma hasten it's only up every 74 seconds, 69 with Agility Core, so I tend not to rely on it. Seeds of Confusion plus the knockdown from Freezing Rain is all the crowd control I need, Creepers is a bonus. Vines is mostly a mule for the controller IOs that give me the defense bonuses I need. I could see using Spore Burst instead, Sleep is a pretty useless crowd control, especially with storm and creepers, but at least it would be up every 14s so you'd get a chance to exercise its Psi damage proc more often. Thunderclap is another choice and the disorient is more useful than the sleep, but it's PBAoE and I tend to play ranged with this build. Snow Storm and Ball Lighting will not slot the set. Instead I chose to take Vines and if it's up I may use it to stack on a boss with Strangler, at least it's got a decent duration, but to be honest I rarely think about it.

Can you attune a +5 IO (and keep the enhanced values)
Papaschtroumpf replied to Chance Jackson's topic in General Discussion
2-slotted Hasten and Stamina are the main targets. Possibly single slotted powers with end-red -
Yes my build probably trades some damage for survivability. Yep, great thing about CoH is how you can truly make some choices. I'll check yours out in more details to see what you did with procs. I do have several in roots, tornado and freezing rain, it I have not learned yet how best to max the use of procs. I noticed the other controller origin set has an enhancement that provides "energy font" (I think that's what it was, I don't have it in front of me). Does anyone know what that does?
-
thanks to your inspiration I ended up with a more refined version of my original, by picking some of the elements I like from yours. thanks! Still wish the main body wasn't shiny under certain lighting conditions, as shown below.
-
I just realized you can spawn 2 trees at once with enough recharge. I laughed at Big Red in the market crash TF
-
I just ran a couple of TFs and made a conscious effort to use Power Sink and it's really nice until you get to incarnates

FYI, this is my build, inspired by Ringo's Jenny's (thanks for a great starting point!) but I don't like Spore Burst and I wanted the Spirit Tree. mezzosoprano''s build is an interesting take and I'm a fan of Sorcery and rune of Protection, but I like the numbers better on my build, even if it has less recharge: Softcapped Ranged and AoE defense Within 1/2% of capped S&L resist, high Energy and some Fire/Cold, With Surge Of Power as an Oh Sh!t button for capped almost everything, but I have yet to use it for real. Psionic is my cryptonite but that's only for what gets through the positional defense, so it's actually not a big deal, and then Spirit Tree has my back. Spirit Tree provides huge recovery (almost 500%) as needed, it has a few drawbacks because it's fixed and no huge radius, but drop it and stay by it with hurricane on, and it creates a hell of a safety zone. Hasten is Perma (I leave it on auto), I took Alpha Agility to get additional recharge because I always want more. Creepers is perma, but they don't seem to move from group to group the way I thought they were supposed to. Mist+the IO in Power Dash gets me invisibility, and I have Assemble The Team if I want to TP the team to the end of the mission, but I usually only do so if it's an AV, if it's a glowie, between confuse and my defense, I can take care of the glowie by myself, even if there is a mob on top of it, and I handle "defeat the leader" by myself or with whoever else may have stealth in the group. I almost never use Vines. I leveled without them so I never really relied on them, and at over a minute of recharge, it's still not available for every group, as opposed to Seeds which gives me my minion crowd control opener. I just couldn't figure out what to take instead and still slot the Will Of The Controller set which I need for the defense and recharge. I'd love to replace Vines with a reasonably slotted Ball Lightning but have not been able to do it without compromises. Endurance can sometimes be a problem, as great as Hurricane is, it's an endurance pig. I keep forgetting to use Power Sink, otherwise it's a great Endurance tool. Once you get Ageless Destiny, it's a moot point anyway, you have more endurance on tap that you know what to do with 🙂 The build is safe for soloing at x8+4 and renders the tank obsolete in teams, but it doesn't have Corruptor or Brute level damage, so I avoid soloing at +4 so it goes faster. It examplars quite well (I use all Attuned enhancements except for the non set IOs, a few of which are +5). If you have ideas on how to improve it, I'm all ears! EDIT: I had posted a slightly earlier version of my build, now corrected below. I think the main difference is that I moved a slot from Mist to Freezing Rain to add a proc to it, and Root is slotted to get a few Endurance set advantages. very minute differences form the previous build. Can you attune a +5 IO (and keep the enhanced values)
Papaschtroumpf replied to Chance Jackson's topic in General Discussion
"If you apply a Boost to an Attuned enhancement" once you reach 50, there is no longer a need for attuned enhancements, they will examplar normally, so that's the time to boost them. -
Most controllers can be slow till the 30s, and this is no exception. Decent crowd control for but low damage earlyU. Use the P2W prestige attacks (Sands of Mu, Black Wand, Nemesis staff...) For damage. The sorcery pool gets you another decent ranged attack. Use the prestige enhancements that have a proc component to 20 to help increase your damage, as well as any proc you can slot early. Get Seeds if Confusion as early as you can and slot for Acc. Slot stamina early and slot powers for end redux, this is an endurance hungry build. Seeds, roots, and strangler are great control early on so that you can do damage safely. Early on everything else recharges kinda slow. I am also a huge fan of hurricane for crowd placement and melee defense. I also use Gale for placement and tossing them back early on, so I wouldn't want the KB->KD IO in Game too early. Superspeed+Mist make you invisible without IOs which is also great for speeding glowie missions I did some solo which was slowish and some teaming which really helped me home my stormie skills for crowd placement and my contribution to the tram was neutering the baddies do that damage types could do their job safely.

hmmm, does Carrion last 2 minutes? I guess mine already is perma

for some reason when I click on the datalink in the post above, I end up with Jenny's build, not the one matching the post? can you post the data blob for import into mid's?

No, that's maybe the only disadvantage of attuned IOs -
Returning player looking for a Mind/Psi build
Papaschtroumpf replied to Vaethos's topic in Dominator
Lol that was useful. -
So my plant/storm (I AM ROOT) reached 50 yesterday. It is very similar to Ringo's Jenny build above, which I started from, but I don't care for the mass sleep and I wanted the healing tree. Still soft-capped Ranged and AOE, soft-capped S/L (and Energy I think?) and a hair more recharge. I thought the price was a happy medium between all-out purples and WIOs and a cheap build. Endurance needs some monitoring when examplared, otherwise it's a pretty effective build, although the damage is not amazing, but this is a controller after all and I didn't want to do Fire. I can't remember how long the wait for Creepers is but it's not perma. I think that I'd want perma creepers if I spent more on a build.
-
I thought the devs had "seeded" the market to try and keep price steady. Looks like they ran out of seeds?
