Just expressing a bit of amusement at this character.
Thrythlind replied to Thrythlind's topic in Mastermind
Well, I created her originally in the live game... and she's been sitting around in my head since then. And well, when a scion game possibility came up (hasn't started yet sadly) then I drew out the origin and such a little bit more and just copied it over to the Homecoming character.... so... it kinda trickled out over time....- 13 replies

Mutations are too convenient
Thrythlind replied to Deuce Spade's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
You might want to look into the Wild Cards setting as well. Jokers and Deuces don't have the best powers. -
Ummm, there is a Beasts Mastermind with wolves and lions.

Sorry, should have quoted so you'd get a notification. I answered above.

Dual Origin, Single Origin, and Invention Origin. Basically, we're doing old school enhancement access where originally you couldn't get the DOs until level 12 because they didn't really drop or go for sale until then (when the first round of origin-stores sold level 15s)

If City of Heroes were remade entirely today...
Thrythlind replied to Thrythlind's topic in General Discussion
My linguistics professor used to say "If it's not changing it's dead." And that's true of so many things. -
Heir of Gold for a child of Sif who inherited the literally gold-hair. (Yes, I know in the myth it's basically a magical wig, but it's described as attached and growing naturally) Smaugdottir for a dragon-themed lady A Modern Red for a Red-Riding-Hood themed Beastmaster Sangwine for my cosplaying vampire lady Gunsmith Snake for my Pistols/Willpower sentinel who's a gorgon that runs a gunshop, does heroing to pay the bills, and has a nice car that's a jaguar... and her name is Vinnie Lawrence.

... what would you like to see. Character creation updated to modern graphics is naturally one, motion capture is probably not feasible, but certainly some updated graphics quality. More variety of body types... non-binary etc. On to other things: More investigative / environmental mechanics... a lot of the original game was built from fighting as a base and a lot of other stuff is kind of tacked on... but it would be nice to do a lot of disaster rescues and the like. More modular power selection. For example, have 2-3 options for each tier so that character designs end up feeling a bit less cookie cutter. Have a separate list of options for powers that are more strictly associated with investigative/exploration mechanics. For example, maybe someone with Time Manipulation would have extra time on timed-missions and such. As a note, any investigative/exploration/rescue/other non-combat mission should be able to be completed without said powers, but said powers would make them easier or present alternate story beats. or just be cool. Some combat powers would have some investigative/environmental missions (melt debris, for instance) and vice-versa, but not so common. Updated base-building (of course)

The only thing I'd change is the Area 51 thing, because Area 51 is public. It was used as a site for test flights of new prototypes for years. Probably doesn't see much active use anymore but probably has a fair amount of lingering stuff that they want to keep private. So I'd more say "Area 51 (which is just a boring test site for new conventional air craft)" or the like.

Board Games! (and card games too, I guess)
Thrythlind replied to FoulVileTerror's topic in Video Games
Sentinels of the Multiverse, naturally... such an upbeat superhero universe. Love the characters. Call to Adventure is one I've found recently, it's basically a writing prompt in a box... very cool. Has a competitive scoring mode by default, but I don't really care. I just like the cool stories you build with it. Arkham Horror is a good classic, I got the remake recently and haven't tried it yet. Betrayal at House on the Hill is great, my family finished a run of Betrayal Legacy recently (good-ish ending get) Marvel United is AMAZING. Moonrakers is a cool experience, somewhat Firefly-ish, space-opera freelance flyers doing jobs. -
Tuesday night team is rolling basically a "let's make things hard on ourselves" new team No influence other than what we earn on character. No DOs until 12, SOs until 22, IOs until 32 No major travel until 14. Teamleader set the list of requested archetypes and power-sets... I chose Dark Miasma/Fire Blast Defender because I had a character idea... though usually I play Smaugdottir as an idealistic teen-mutant rather than a sci-fi space-soldier.

This is how I got sharks for my heroic Beastmaster. -

There's lots of construction going on, it just looks like they haven't bothered to identify the group doing that. Maybe the FBSA is responsible for superhuman related collateral? I'll say this, CoH is substantially less dystopian than either Marvel or DC.... though Sentinels Comics has it beat... but then Sentinels Comics is almost utopian. The Wraith (their Batman expy) basically decided "You know, I bet I can do more good with money, social engineering, and educating new heroes than I can by putting on a costume and doing the front lines thing." And their dark and edgy group does community outreach.

Superhero realities often seem to operate more like the politics are ancient Greek city states more than modern-world nations. That said, the city has offices for five federal paranormal agencies, six if you consider FBSA separate, Longbow, Vanguard, Wyvern, Midnight Society, the UN, and a few other things. There's an overabundance of Federal and/or even Global level organizations with their noses in the city.

This is mostly me killing time between tasks at work and this absolutely wouldn't work for every character. I think I may have posted something like this idea somewhere else, not sure. Anyway, approaching alternate builds sort of like the way Jobs work in Final Fantasy games. IE you can switch out your character Job between encounters/adventures but you have to level up each job independently. It feels totally impractical to do with the infrastructure of this game, hence why I marked it as impractical. It also would not fit a lot of concepts. But like a single character with shape-shifting abilities... a gadgeteer with different gear loadouts... or other such things. So, like have a fire-using character level up as a blaster, go back and level up as a tank also with fire type powers, etc. or maybe stay blaster but alter power sets. As I said, I am fairly certain the infrastructure doesn't exist to do this in a single character slot. You CAN do something similar by taking multiple character slots, though then you have to adjust the character name here and there.

Please, PLEASE don't give Ally NPCs the Rabbit AI
Thrythlind replied to Thrythlind's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
That's the general aggression. As far as I know General Z doesn't have the rabbit thing, he just has the general combat AI which, on a "helper" is often no help... especially if it's necessary to get them out alive (Lady Jane, General Z, Lady Grey). The ally I mostly found this on was WM Dietrich. I assume they gave her Rabbit AI for fighting against players... engage, fight a bit and then run away a little bit before re-engaging. And it basically does the same thing as General Z just SOOOO much worse because she doesn't return to the original location before re-engaging and then she spots a brand new spawn of enemies and fights that instead... but since she will then disengage rather than just dying, they follow her to where-ever she disengages to... which could be back to you. -
Mastermind Idea (probably not possible)
Thrythlind replied to Thrythlind's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Alternately, more Power Pools like "Sorcery" and "Force of Will" being available with their ranged attack options. -
If I make a KB heavy character, especially for solo, I rather want KB to KB so I'd rather not have set bonuses do this. I'd rather have the enhancement option to be slotted in for a non-solo build to reduce disruption, but I'd feel a bit annoyed to be spending effort on increasing the ability to scatter people like bowling pins only for them to just fall in place instead.

Mastermind Idea (probably not possible)
Thrythlind replied to Thrythlind's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah, there's a couple of things on my thoughts that are "I may never be interested in doing this, but somebody else might be and it would enable this other thing I do want to do." -
Please, PLEASE don't give Ally NPCs the Rabbit AI
Thrythlind replied to Thrythlind's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It was happening to us on a team mission, so it was just aggravating that we'd walk into an area and instantly have the entire room aggroed because she'd zip around just shooting at things. -

Eco-Friendly Powerset Recycling!
Thrythlind replied to Alchemystic's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Could certainly do aliens, mutants, or the like. Went with the cultist-ish vibe because yuan-ti. Though to be honest, if I had pet customization available it would be along the lines of making just a bunch of slice-of-life people that happen to be scaly.- 792 replies

To explain what the Rabbit AI is, it's the Tsoo Sorcerer AI. Do a thing, hang around a bit, zip off to far corner of the map. Come back after a cool down. I call the Rabbit AI because back in beta and launch it made me feel a bit like Elmer Fudd. The over-aggressive allies are bad enough, but give them Rabbit AI and this happens: Ally attacks a couple of enemies.... Zips across map... resettles into do-stuff phase, encounters entirely new group of enemies, and attacks them.... Rinse, repeat, aggro half the map before you know it.
