"Wildwing" because "Totally Not Batman" probably takes up too many character spaces. 😉 They all look top-knotch. You do know how to use a minimalist approach to make us feel inferior. 😁 (j/k) Pollute looks great, but I'd almost expect a less "clean" look for such a character. I'm not really certain how you could grunge-ify the character, though, short of using auras. I guess you could say he might need to stay sterilely clean to avoid succumbing to what he's delivering to others. Your work is great, as always!

Star Wars: Andor on D+
Techwright replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
We're getting some feedback regarding Andor from some (allegedly) early viewers of the first 4 episodes. For me, the interesting bit in the writings was: ...it’s the most serious, grounded thing Star Wars has ever done. It feels more like an English-made espionage thriller than Star Wars. ... The article goes on to say, in so many words, that we're not going to see clear black hat / white hat roles here, but shades of gray. There's going to be humanity to some of the villain roles. These points are actually interesting to me, because I remember similar discussion regarding Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier around the time it came out, and it has proven to be a fan favorite, and the #1 Marvel movie on many fans lists. I also appreciate the comment that explains why they need to release the first 3 episodes together. I for one, don't "hate" group fly, per se, but I do hate that it is usually sprung on me without announcement, especially when I'm tank or brute. I hate even worse that there's not an option in my Options to negate Group Fly, like there is for group teleport. If we had such, set to off, it would be a heap of a lot easier for teaming MM's to get around without taking heat.

If you could customize your Mastermind minions, what would you make?
Techwright replied to Magi 1's topic in Mastermind
Just found this thread. Can't believe I didn't see it before. There's precedent: But who would remember it? Unexpected, but I like it! This, so much this. I'd be fine if they had the G.O.O.N. or similar on the turtleneck, though I'd love to see a customization where their name appears instead. I believe several episode of the the '66 Batman had these. Let's see: Demons I'd replace with some sort of Aliens xenomorph-like designs. Robots I'd swap with wind-up toys for a Toyman MM-like look. Soldiers, well, continuing with the Toyman MM-like idea, giving them a full plastic green soldier look (complete with green pedestal) might be one idea, or going to the Napoleonic tin soldier look would be another. Ninjas, probably go for a Persian hassassin look. Beasts - either a Greek mythological creatures set or an Arthurian/medieval legendary creatures set (griffin, wyvern, questing beast, killer bunny, unicorn, etc.) Zombies - I like the Spectral Pirates idea pushed by others, though a spectral soldier's look would be of interest as well. Something along the lines of the American Revolution era: tricorn hats, grenadiers, etc. -

When I'm in such a predicament, I generally go with "Bob". If I'm feeling whimsical, I'll go with whatever the name of the worst hurricane was from the past 12 months. Either way, the thread title is memorable. I had the same thought, but it is a different performance, so I can see wanting to port the visual effects to the other powerset. Part of the problem is: why stop at guns and wands? Why not an axe that casts razor ice with each swing, or a shoulder-mounted canon, or one's little pet shoulder cat blowing up a gale, etc.? Someone is going to have a concept that sounds cool but means a ton of work. That said, I could get behind some sort of wrist gadget that looks like Black Widow's sting bracelets. That way, the blast still comes from the hands/wrists utilizing a visual tech alternative without having to rework the power animations.

Loud or obnoxious, what are the worst sounds in the game?
Techwright replied to gameboy1234's topic in General Discussion
That sounds so much like something that would show up in some British absurdist sketch comedy. Take a step, 30 tanks tread up a half meter. Look to make sure your left flank is clear, 30 turrets' grind to look left, etc. etc. How could I forget Kinetic Melee? Conceptually, the idea of using racecar-like sounds comes across as neat-o keen, but the reality is really annoying. Of course, they tell me there's a lot of issues with that powerset, so lack of players using it kind of fixes the issue for now. -

I knew about the kittie sounds for demons in the CoH Modder, but conceptually those sound hilarious as well. I like using a robot MM, but the noise is annoying, certainly. Maybe I can find a soft shoe dance sound for them, or at least basketball court sneaker sounds. -

That's great! Now how do we get it to be clearly visible in a size equal to an iPhone app icon? -
I'm guessing "yes" to both of those, though host connections might be longer than every decade. As to unwilling hosts, Romulus Augustus was not expecting the Nictus to bond with him. He's quiet caught off-guard. In the canon comics, the fused being Horus came about while the human host was unconscious. One could argue, I suppose, that it is not the same as resistance which might create some sort of physical or mental defense to merging, but then you have the Council, and multiple stories within imply that not all participants are willing. Nice find! I don't know that lore. Was Lilitu human first and then changed?

I Thought Super Stunners Did Not Rez If...
Techwright replied to Erratic1's topic in General Discussion
Didja check the area for rats? Rats do have a way of stepping in when all hope is lost: giving their lives to rez Super Stunners, walking across weird quantum control panels in tacky vans, that sort of thing. -
Any *old old* game things you kinda miss?

Iron Will seems to be showing up in the auction house, though based on the pricing, you might want to take out a bank loan first. -
Rolleyes - And Forum Reactions Suggestions/Discussion
Techwright replied to Marbing's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
I've long desired a groan reaction. I'll settle for a strong, clear facepalm. I'd use that quite a bit. I don't know that any of the reactions are unnecessary or redundant, but I would like to separate the trophy from the "thanks" description. I've seen people use it as a reward (1st-rate idea, man) and as "thanks". I'd prefer to have straightforward uses. Also, the "sad" is often used as "oh no, not again" or "that comment really ruins my day". I'd prefer a more straightforward frowny-face sad, and a second icon for falling bowl of petunia comments, if you get my reference. -
Hmm, I didn't bring him over to Homecoming, but I had a character in the Original Game that I'd spent a notable amount of time tweaking the facial sliders to get it just right, and managed to get a fairly good representation of my face from college days, at least, what could be done within the limits of the game. I'd be very curious to see what the outcome would be if a program retro-engineered it from game face to pseudo-lifelike.

Others can delve into the technical & precision stuff for you. I can only give you the neighborly "sittin' on the porch jawin' away" approach, but here goes...All the way back in Original Game Year 1, endurance was an issue until level 20 (in some cases 22, though I don't remember specifically which ones). Have suffered and grumbled on it for some time, I finally learned from others to 3-slot stamina early on. I'm sure there are smarter players out there who'd disagree and offer alternatives. YMMV, That's fine. But I've been 3-slotting stamina with End Mods before I hit the teen levels for years now, and it has really smoothed the performance. (I also 3-slot health pretty early on as well. Any adjustments I need to make are done in respecs and specialty enhancements at level 50.)

The Banished Batgirl Mystery
Techwright replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
One note, one side note: Note: Is it possible they're delaying Aquaman II in part because of the negativity surrounding Amber Heard right now? DC has some PR nightmares on their hands due to public views of her and Ezra, though in counterpoint, they do seem to be moving forward with the Flash movie. Sidenote: I'm very curious how they intend to move forward with Shazam movies. 3 years between films is a long time when you've got kids growing up on screen. The child actors were great in the first movie, but I was surprised that they didn't go for a 9 or 10 year old for Billy Batson. That could have gotten them 4 movies before such an actor turned 20. But then maybe they're shooting for the 1970s TV version of Captain Marvel/Shazam, where "young" Billy looked to be a 23-year-old, fresh out of college, -
The Banished Batgirl Mystery
Techwright replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
This was an interesting read, and unexpected. I'd heard rumor of the film and was hoping for a good roll for Brendon Frasier. Firefly sounded like an interesting choice for villain. The first thought that I had was not of Uwe Boll (that was the second), but of the bizarre case of the 1994 Fantastic Four live action film: filmed for specific reasons that would NOT require it to appear in the theater or TV. It doesn't even appear in IMDB, though there are bootleg copies out there. There are differences though: Fantastic Four was filmed with a string-of-the-shoestring budget. It contained no big names among its cast (at least for that time). Another thought that goes through my mind is that of Star Trek's The Cage: if all the footage is shot and most of post production is done, can a new film be created later from taking the footage of this film, re-writing a bit, and shooting a few new scenes with the cast (and perhaps a few additional cast members)? This was done with The Cage, where a good chunk of the footage was used for The Menagerie, and through that, was eventually so popular that Paramount/CBS released the original episode as well. I've seen it done in other productions as well, though the one other than sprang to mind left just as quickly as I was typing this. This tactic could answer your "Really irredeemable?" challenge. Is it a "partnership" or an "ownership" between Warner Brothers and DC? I thought it to be the latter. One you walk out of, the other you don't. I do think pulling the plug so late in the project says there's something really off. Movie companies do not sink that kind of money, materials, and manpower into a film without some remuneration, even at a loss. -
Should be interesting in Praetorian tunnels.

What's your favorite content and why?
Techwright replied to Bionic_Flea's topic in General Discussion
That may be because they are the most prepped and packaged. Missions feel less so. Other things, like Arena seem even non-existent. I do like playing a good mission story especially if there are twists and turns in the plot and action. Unfortunately CoH is not really set up to do this as a team. If I'm not the lead, I only marginally know what is going on. And if I'm the lead, I feel pressured to stop reading and cue up the next instance. In this, I think Star Wars The Old Republic does it better. That first instance when a team of you takes a transport to another planet and is attacked enroute, that felt like everyone was aware of the story and fully participant in it. I suppose I best love a good fight: not just one where we're so overpowered that we slaughter indiscriminately, but where the enemy is balanced against the team and the outcome is not obvious. There's something deeply satisfying about a diminishing team standing over your fallen teammates and desperately holding out before finally managing to drop the last opponent without a complete team wipe. So I'd probably say I like the tunable nature of instances. -
If there was such an option (don't think there is), it would likely appear at the very bottom in the "Theme" spot. Currently there are only two: the Homecoming default and a generic look.
-
I must say, that is really well done. I didn't think it was possible. I might have to try my hand at a Terran look as well. Your pics caused me to pull an old Federation rifle design out of my mothball fleet of saved costume designs and finally start a character. I'll probably refine him along the way, but here is The Walking Red

It's the thick of peach season where I am, so I've altered my traditional orange notes for more of a summery peach. Pray I don't alter it any further. -
RIP Nichelle Nichols aka Uhura
Techwright replied to The_Warpact's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
I have been expecting this. Not wishing this, mind you, but, well, bracing for it based on some reports regarding her health that I've seen for a few years now. I think one of the most interesting things about the oft-controversial Star Trek alternate universe "remake" series was how they fleshed out their version of Nyota Uhura, fiesty, intelligent both passionate and compassionate. arriving complete with a first name (first given in the books). All of that was possible because Nichelle willingly endured an often under-developed character with only a single name to have a chance to break new ground and make a difference. By the time of the movies, Nichelle began to get more notable moments, such as Uhura's staged takeover of a teleporter station in The Search For Spock, or her The Undiscovered Country battle-winning suggestion of shooting a torpedo at the cloaked enemy's "tailpipe". And of course, within the original series itself there was that one break-through episode, Plato's Stepchildren that everyone likes to talk about. It's among my favorite episodes, not because of the sci-fi (fruit that gives humans and Vulcans telekinetic powers? And it never sees the light of day again? Much like the equally game-changing Khan's blood or galactic teleporting, it should never have been added to script), but because the episode gave two very worthy people a chance to shine: Nichelle, and the little actor with huge talent, Michael Dunn. Nichelle had a marvelous singing voice, too, and I'm glad she was able to use it occasionally within Star Trek. Even if it was singing saccharine songs of outer space romance. -
Which is why I'm surprised it has not become ubiquitous here in the US Deep South. Fried food with drownings of gravy on it are life down here.

If I read you correctly, you're implying that Requiem's Nictus is much older but lived most of it in the future, or at least the future before merging in the cave?
