Are Freakshow good annoying or just annoying annoying?
Techwright replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I used to enjoy Freakshow more. Admittedly this was back around 2005-2009. Perhaps my memory has just faded with time but I don't recall Super Stunners, (the old COH wiki doesn't list them, so I'm assuming I'm right that they were added), and they're my main beef with today's Freakshow. Unless the team is really good at killing them at range, guaranteed rez, guaranteed end drain, and for me personally, a high level of annoyance, especially if I'm on melee duty. Early Freakshow didn't have such a concentrated target to strike first and hard. Instead, any and all Freaks might suddenly rez. It was unpredictable which ones, and I loved that randomness. Sure that still happens, but I've seen it is far less than it used to be, possibly to compensate for the guaranteed rez of the Super Stunner. I'd really like to see this model get the boot, or at least toned down, and the Freakshow go back to being much more randomized. It might also help if I genuinely had something to fear from them still. Tanks with two hammer fists and those with scythe hands had the potential to do some real damage on a swing, and I've just not seen that even against my poorer builds. I still like them. and would take them any day over CoT. Their party-&-anarchy nature feels different than any other villain group. Oh, and I'd not mind a few more female leads among them. Clamor is fine, but I see her too often on task forces and such. -

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

@Krimson's explanation is on the nose, An in-story explanation might be, however, that Vos is known secondarily for being something of a spy for the Jedi, so it would make sense that the others wouldn't react to him in the field, unless they had specific reason to meet with him. -

Just learned there's a scene with some controversy at the end of the episode "The Eye": Also had a thought regarding episode 8, and possibly the upcoming 9: Any chance you'd be willing to toss up another spoiler box and explain this viewpoint? I've only known of one work for which that person held a director's chair, it was 2nd team, and I never noticed anything wrong. The script was flawed but that wasn't their fault. You have me curious. -
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

Huh. That's actually kind of cool. Never thought of it that way, but yes, if I had a 900+ years lifespan and was born the year after the Conqueror, I'd grow up speaking a mish-mash of Anglo-Saxon and Norman. Some things I'd have to change, but not necessarily all. I'm in my 50s and though I'm aware of much of the trendy words and phrases of my nieces' generation, I've no interest in incorporating most of them. Add 850 years to that mindset. -
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

Actually, this is what I hope this anthology series will be going forward: pithy vignettes of Jedi we know of, but know little about, as opposed to the Ahsoka episodes where we knew much about the character. For example, with season 2, do 3 episodes of the life of Yaddle, and 3 episodes of the life of Quinlan Vos, the Jedi who uses the force to track, and whom we learned in Obi-Wan Kenobi was probably still alive. Or better yet, if we want another Jedi who fell to the dark side as a contrast to Yaddle, do 3 episodes on The Grand Inquisitor, for whom we know nothing, not even his name, save that he was a temple guard at some point. -
GOTG: Holiday Special

Bacon makes everything better, they say, apparently even Christmas. Let's put Rocket on a barely space-worthy planet that sees him as a member of a dumpster-diving pest species, or just something to be hunted. and see how that goes, shall we? -

Finished. Overall, I thought the time-jump arc of episodes 2, 3, and 4 were the strongest, though episode 6 did cover some desired ground. Episode 1: Life and Death Episode 2: Justice Episode 3: Choices Episode 4: The Sith Lord Episode 5: Practice Makes Perfect Episode 6: Resolve -
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

I agree, mostly, that the first ep was unnecessary. It was probably created to satisfy the rabid Ahsoka fans who want to wring every drop of her story from Dave Filoni. That said, the episode did give us a small taste of Togruta culture, something that has been absent in Star Wars to this date. As Togruta are supposed to be one of the more populous species, it probably needed to be done, at least the cultural bits. I've just completed episode 4. It's the best so far by far, though the progression seen in 2, 3 and 4 has been better than I hoped. I'll do a full comment when done. -

This episode had my skin crawling. Whomever designed this dehumanizing look and feel either deserves an award or a trip to a psych doctor, or both. Answering in orange: Some separate thoughts: -
The Banished Batgirl Mystery

Maybe I'm just too practical or lack "vision", but a stock-change like that would have me thinking low-budget/high-payoff films for the next couple of years rather than dice-rolling huge amounts on potentially iffy blockbusters in hopes of gi-normously huge payouts. Gunn's selection is a surprise to me. Considering all the ferocity surrounding his past events, his firing, and his re-hiring, I'd have thought they'd want to see how GotG3 was received before offering. I guess this means that with the 4-year exclusivity for DC, all the fuss for bringing him back to GTOG leads to just a swan song, and others will helm it going forward, assuming the actors stick around. -
Okay, I've known for some time that Quantumania would have a lot to do with...what else?...the quantum realm, and that HE would be in the movie (no not Mephisto). But this trailer went off in a hugely different direction than I was thinking. I suppose I should mention up front that I've not seen every work in Phase 4 of the MCU, so there may be details in the overall story arc of the MCU of which I'm not currently aware. Responses in hidden field in orange. Some of my own thoughts:

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

Very late to the party as I was budgeting the internet video channels until Andor was released. I'm caught up now, but won't go into one of my legendary monologues since I'm so late. I'll simply say Loved Episode 8 and thrilled to see the guest star. Not quite as much episode 9, but it was so campy trippy that I willingly rank it the second best episode. Was really hoping for more of a threat from the Wrecking Crew. I realize they're usually portrayed as buffoonish, muscle-brained thugs, but these guys felt like trick-or-treaters swinging glow-sticks. Didn't see a comment, but did anyone else pick up on how much Leapfrog and his whole setup resembled the 1966 Batman series villains, their teams, and their lairs? I watched a lot of reactors on YouTube and none of them appeared to comment on it. Great fun. Luke Jacobson is no Edna Mode. I've always thought DD and Electra should be the couple onscreen, but this is the MCU, a similar but different universe, and I'm now rooting for the DD/SH teamup as a lasting thing. Sadly the West Coast/East Coast existence practically spells failure in the relationship. A very different personality to Blonsky but I'm liking it, probably because I love just about everything Tim Roth does. I'm hoping YouTube speculators are correct and that we'll see him teaming up with the Thunderbolts when that day comes. It's high time they stopped dropping Wong into this movie or that series and gave him his own staring role. Okay, that was a baby monologue, I'll admit. -

I'd not read the newer books. That's very interesting, and surprisingly a different feel from the Grand Admiral Smurf of Rebels. Thanks for posting that. -

Jodhpurs survive in Star Wars precisely because they do reflect the WWII Nazi look. (Sweeps Gen. Patton behind the curtain. Nothing to see here, move on, move on...) And regarding Mr. Vee's comment, the conditions here are top-level administrators in dress uniforms. It is very likely any days they had as spies are over. ISB spies would be granted civilian attire or whatever is needed for the job. What would be interesting to see is a work uniform. Whites for formal, blue or camo for work, just like the US Navy. Swapping over to my traditional orange. (I need something different. Can they whip up a frosted raspberry?) -
Not to mention that opening a computer/pulling apart a laptop without an A+ certification can void any remaining warranty on some computers. I've seen several HPs in the workplace that were lacking in thermal paste. Not sure why that is. You'd think the initial application would be measured and delivered by machine. Not a fan, personally of HPs nor of Dells. I've met too many of them.

Why was Incandescent selected over other possibilities? Just curious. My first thought would have been to move Back Alley Brawler to that spot.
