  1. If I quote something then I am responding to that particular thing. I may add a general comment first, then the quote, then the response, or I may add the quote, a direct reply to that, and then a more general response, but yeah, it only makes sense to put the quote ahead of the response. You said this, I am saying that in response. If I am just making a general comment on the subject at hand or replying to the OP in a general way then no quote is needed. If I quote someone, in whole or in part, then it is because I want to respond to those remarks specifically. That should come before my comments for the sake of clarity.
  2. Nobody's perfect. Complaining about never having more than a 95% chance of hitting makes me think that someone doesn't really have much to complain about. If these "outdated" concepts bother you so much then why come to play an "outdated" game?
  3. The CCG failed when CoH was more-or-less as popular as it ever would be (at least to date). So if you are talking about doing this all legal and legit then just how much do you think someone would pay to license the rights, and why do you think that either NCSoft or AEG would be interested in spending any time dealing with someone that would pay that price assuming you kept it reasonable? If you are talking about someone bypassing NCSoft and AEG and just letting people play the game illegally, then they would have to really love that CCG and be willing to face the repercussions for their actions. If they ran it for free then that motivation is removed, and if they charged then just how many people do you think would pay, especially knowing that it was an illegal operation that could be shut down at any time?
  4. I am not mocking your viewpoints or your suggestions. I'm explaining why adding things to a name is not always sufficient. Being unpleasant to me is not warranted. I am not defending the image, but sometimes "not always sufficient" is really "because I only want the one thing that I want and anything else, no matter how minor the compromise, is unacceptable". Cockatryce Cockatrise Cokkatrice Kockatrice You know, just to throw a some more options out there that will probably be unacceptable to you. But it's your call in the end. Try a different server, find some way to alter the name, or not use the name in any form and possibly abandon the character concept.
  5. For what it's worth, I hate that my hero had to use different guns. I tried to limit their munitions options so that they would use two pistols, but I really only ever wanted them to use one. If I was using a gun-wielding character I wanted them to use a gun. One gun. A single firearm that had however many different firing modes as needed, but I just wanted my character to use one gun. By the time they rolled out the pistols framework over in CO I stopped caring altogether. Of the three characters that I played, last time I played at all which is a while back, I was only looking at maybe reworking one of them, and they would not use guns. Those were for my fourth character and I gave up on them a long time ago. And that was it. Four characters. Just didn't care enough to bother making more and I was there during beta and early access.
  6. Champions was a superhero rpg long before COH was a gleam in its creators eye. But it wasn't an MMO so that doesn't really matter, does it? And they certainly didn't use the Champions PnP system in the MMO or even try to. CO doesn't get to ride the coattails of the Champions RPG to try and make a claim to being a better game than CoH. Playing a fire/fire blaster here and basically a fire blaster there, I get generally the same list of variations on a theme that I can use... Single target attack, bigger single target attack, AoE, another AoE, etc. Only in CoH each is far more customizable when it comes right down to it. In CO I can add damage and maybe a special effect or two to an attack. CoH might not have a direct parallel to some of those special effects, but any given power can have anywhere from 1-6 slots and each slot can be used to modify that power in some way based upon what it does. I have a much greater degree of customization over each power that I have in terms of how that power will actually work. CO looks better. That's it. CoH looks good enough, though, and I enjoy the gameplay mechanics, the variety of content, and the world that the devs built here a great deal more. And you didn't come up with a "good reason" for why CO is better. It's a personal choice for you, which I can just as easily dismiss as not a "real" reason. Get it? This is all about opinion. No one defending either game can present one piece of "real" evidence proving that one game is better than the other. All we can do is explain why we like one over the other. And if you like CO more? Bye. This is for CoH players. This is for the people that can not give you any "real" reasons. But for what it's worth, Atlas Park looks a heckuva lot busier than the RenCen last I looked.
  7. 1) As already stated, the game was not built to allow for such a thing. Making it available is probably no small feat at best, and may require a massive effort. 2) Without easy access to global handles, it could allow for a massive amount of trolling and in-game fraud. This is another thing that would have to be changed, not just letting people use the same names as other players. 3) It goes against the source material. Yeah, I know that this isn't the best argument against it, but I rather enjoy the fact that every character is the one and only. Also, I am aware that there have been occasions where two characters have simultaneously had the same name, but it was usually a source of contention and one of the characters stopped using the name. There are plenty of examples of names being abandoned and adopted by someone else. I sincerely hope that you didn't just see someone else's character and think "cool name. I want it", because the lack of imagination involved in that hurts to think about. But if you have a name, however imaginative you may have thought that it was, but someone else has it, there are ways around that. Add letters. Add numbers. Change letters. Add colors or other adjectives. So I really wanted to make a character called Titan. Basic, but that's what I wanted. Unfortunately, it's taken or otherwise unavailable. Okay, I have options. Titan 1 T1tan Red Titan Titan Red Tytan Titanic Tytanic Titanik Tytanik Ti-Tan Ultra-Titan Dr. Titan Everything still contains that base Titan, but allows not only whoever has Titan (assuming it's not banned for use for whatever reason) to keep it unique to themselves allowing them to build a reputation of their own, but it also allows you to have an identity and reputation of your own, too.
  8. I just don't get this. Azuria will talk to Dr. Amazing. Twinshot will talk to Dr. Amazing. Eagle Eye will talk to Dr. Amazing. Switch into civvies and they won't have time for you. They do not know you. You are not someone that they will tell where the Skulls are hiding or that they will entrust with even the simplest of errands. A secret identity, in the sense being proposed here, is good only within an RP group, and an RP group doesn't need the game to make special mechanics for them. Otherwise? You are just standing around in civvies and not partaking in any adventures. An activity that also does not require the game to make special mechanics. If an occasional random NPC mentioning your character's name while you are in your civvies is too much for you then you probably expect too much to begin with. In Champions Online they run up to you and ask for autographs, here they just say things like "I hope they make a Dr. Amazing action figure" while going about their business. That shouldn't even touch someone's immersion, never mind break it.
  9. My old fire/fire/fire blaster planned on using Rise of the Phoenix as part of their offensive strategy. Death was a way of life.
  10. Is there a way to invite an offline character into a team? Specifically one of my alts? I tried the /SGInvite but can not find anything when I log the other character in. Not looking to form a "real" SG, necessarily, but unless/until I find a group that I am ready to join for the long haul I figured that I would at least like to get all of my alts into an SG that I could control and maybe eventually build a modest base for them. Thanks.
  11. Thank you. I just changed mine, but the "@" doesn't work. Just use /changehandle insertnamehere .
  12. CoH was the first MMO that I played. There were other MMOs out there, of course, and friends were playing so I thought about those, but I didn't even own a PC at the time. When CoH was announced I really started paying attention, following the game, and signed up on the forums as soon as I found them. I bought a PC in order to be able to play CoH when it came out. There have, of course, been other games, but none of them could reproduce the magic of CoH. So yeah, CoH is back? Even if just for a while? Then I will be here, even if just for a while.
  13. I have only played hero side, but there is one in the Outbreak tutorial near the first contact. I am sure that there is one in the other tutorials as well.
