You should have a word with your forum avatar! 🤣 Joking aside, the GFX on big teams and leagues does kill my enjoyment of the game. When I can't even see my mouse pointer it makes it hard to play. I don't have health issues relating to them but it's annoying for me. I can imagine it would completely frustrating to risk a bad episode

Why Play Any Control Set Other Than Mind Control?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Rinwen's topic in General Discussion
Once you have a few powers in your armoury, auto-hit becomes quite unnecessary, because it's easy enough to tag an enemy with something solid. -
Very difficult to do on many ATs - off the top of my head I'd say almost impossible for blasters. If you're able to correct me I'm interested in seeing how that would work

Why Play Any Control Set Other Than Mind Control?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Rinwen's topic in General Discussion
By the OPs metrics (which I think others have suggested - and I agree - are borked) the object is to put targets to sleep and then deal with them individually which is a very narrow perspective. My Dark/Poison, Earth Wind and Fire, Fire/TA, Illusion/Dark and many others all agree with me I've played literally hundreds of controllers in game (including a couple of Mind trollers) and I think there is one very very significant point the OP has missed in his notion of success: FUN! Each control set has strengths and weaknesses and part of that is discovering what works, what doesn't, when is Power X appropriate to use, is Tactic Y viable, etc? If we take his reductive view to it's Nth conclusion, we end up with a simple on/off switch. That's not a game I want to play. Personally I think Mind Control is quite boring. It can be very very strong at disabling enemies, I completely agree but it takes a LOT to compensate for the damage it lacks. I also note he takes no account of secondary powers which can augment and compliment (and sometimes completely fuck wiith) your chosen primary. A good example might be Earth/Thermal vs Earth/TA - the former being absolutely amazing in my experience, the latter being highly lacklustre, which is odd, given the way Fire/TA synergises. Mind/TA is also horrid horrid horrid. Sure, it gets the job done but there are so many more efficient ways of doing it. Mind control has its place, its good points (Mind Controllers on MoM trials help immensely IME) its bad points but it will never be more than one of many that make this game so enjoyably strong and long lived. -

I was told, more than once, don't slot regen unless you're playing a regen toon. So in other words everyone who isn't a regen melee toon doesn't benefit. That always seemed odd to me but some clarification would be welcome

I'm open to suggestions but since Vanguard are alignment neutral (theoretically at least) and have caused a few messes, it would seem that Longbow might feel they have no other choice than to use villains. They may even have a few arcs where "suitable" villains are recruited. It's not as if they don't have access to them since they already have a very strong presence in the Rogue Isles. This could provide a contact arc in one of the villain zones where a contact sets a villain on a heroic mission, which allows them, once completed to reveal that they are recruiting villains for a special operation and "you got the right stuff... hero! We'll be in touch when you're tougher!" The alternative is to exclude them or have a different story. That doesn't fly because it means that a significant portion of the character base is excluded, and our Devs don't hate villains. Also, we don't need Zero G except in one particular area. In almost all sci-fi movies of note there is an explanation for why there is gravity and (especially in older movies - pre-CGI) there was always one scene where somebody experiences the effects of zero G just to remind the audience they are in space. Note also that gravity generators never ever ever malfunction. They can be blown up in which case people float around (more common now again, CGI) but nobody ever made a gravity generator go wrong and crush an entire crew to pulp. Which seems odd, once you think about it. Could've stopped a lot of the Alien movies in their tracks 😄 -

Discord Data Breach - Does this impact us?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Black Space's topic in General Discussion
From the discord.io website: Discord.io has suffered a data breach On the night of the 14th of August, Discord.io suffered a major databreach, resulting in content from our database being leaked to unknown actors. We were made aware of the breach later on in the day, and after confirming the content of the breach, we decided to shut down all services and operations. What happened? We are still investigating the breach, but we believe that the breach was caused by a vulnerability in our website's code, which allowed an attacker to gain access to our database. The attacker then proceeded to download the entire database, and put it up for sale on a 3rd party site. What data was leaked? Non-sensitive information about your account: Your internal user ID Information about your avatar Your status (moderator/admin/has ads/banned/public/etc) Your coin balance, and current streak in our free minigame. Your API key (this does not give access to your account, and was only available to less than a dozen users). Your registration date. Your last payment date and the expiration date of your premium membership. Potentially sensitive information about your account: Your username Either the one you provided at signup, or, for most of you, your current Discord username. Your Discord ID This information is not private and can be obtained by anyone sharing a server with you. Its inclusion in the breach does, however, mean that other people might be able to link your Discord account to a given email address. Your email address Either the one you provided at signup, or, for most of you, your current Discord e-mail address. Your billing address This should only concern a small number of people and corresponds to the billing address you gave us in order to make a purchase on our site before we began using Stripe. Your salted and hashed password This should only concern a small number of people from before we exclusively offered Discord as a login option (starting in 2018). While your password was encrypted to industry standards, if it was not unique, we urge you to update it on any other site where it might be similar. Discord.io does not store any payment information, and all payments are processed through PayPal and Stripe. We do not store any payment information on our servers, and this information was not leaked. What are we doing about this? We have decided to take down our site until further notice. We will continue to investigate the possible causes of the breach, and we will take steps to ensure that this does not happen again. This will include a complete rewrite of our website's code, as well as a complete overhaul of our security practices. What should you do? As we only stored your Discord user-id, and not your Discord authentication token, there is no need to change your password or take any other action on Discord itself. However, if you signed up on our site from before 2018, using our previous username/password registration, we urge you to change your password on any other site that might have used the same password. What about my premium membership? As we have shut down all operations, we have also canceled all active subscriptions to our site. As such, you will not be charged again. If you have purchased a premium membership in the last 30 days, we will refund you in full. Please contact us at [email protected] with your username and the email address you used to make the purchase. We will then process your refund as soon as possible. -

I'd question specifically what the OP means by "Six slotting" in this context because it is an ambiguous term. Six slotting with the same SO/IO is foolishness because of ED - others have pointed this out. This it's kind of important to understand what the person who told the OP actually meant. I can see there might be an outlier case for six slotting with procs/Set IOs to pursue specific bonuses - but I would suggest that SpettyBatty has provided the most useful, common answer. It's also worth considering that the new End Sets offer some interesting variations. I did find one character found that I could entirely skip a travel power due to the increase in speed bonuses you can slot in Endurance and some other sets which (working from memory here) saved me several slots even after adding a couple to accommodate them But I would also suggest that Aleister Crowley offers good advice in builds too: Do what thou wilt and all that.

Orbital Space Station that has been overrun by a new alien foe. Previously it was run by Longbow to monitor Arachnos and villain activity in both Paragon and the RI. A top secret facility it was kept secret even from the highest ranking personnel in Hero Corps. But it was recently overtaken by an external, as yet to be determined threat and all subsequent attempts to recapture it have proven to be too difficult for Longbow to achieve on their own. Vanguard have also gotten wind of this and given the history of those two organizations have decided unilaterally to muscle in on the act, without Longbow sanction. Therefore Longbow now require Heroes and Villains to unite to recapture their station, defeating the new threat and if necessary Vanguard in the process. There are secrets on that station that must not fall into the wrong hands! -

honoroitisfantastic whats your most pressing issue?
Scarlet Shocker replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
I haven't seen those discussions. Sure, the costume creator can always use extra options and hard points from which to hang your hat/sunglasses/horns/penis (oops sorry wrong game) from but if those things have been specific discussions do we then need a poll and discussion of discussions? I honestly didn't think we need this thread so I doubt I'll make one. I'm not sure it would add to any debate in a productive way. But hey... milage varies and you think differently which is totally fine. Maybe it's created a different, more interesting debate as an aside. -

Scarlet Shocker replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
and in the spirit of cooperation I'll add my tuppence worth to the debate, firmly in the "Other" category and argue that there is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much XP in this game. It reduces the challenge, enables content avoidance (in fact in many instances avoids content almost entirely) and leaves non-veteran players totally unprepared for higher level content because they have missed most of the game and are unable to play the higher level stuff. I would suggest that the AE should offer no XP at all (by all means give minor drops, inspirations, DOs/SOs) but that would allow it to become a repository for story, not a race to 50. I'd also eliminate XP boosters entirely from P2W vendors. The game is fundamentally a team game, but hardly anyone teams now unless it's in the AE to be farmed to 50 or to complete high level (mostly Incarnate) content which cannot be run solo. There is no need to race to 50 and make a new toon for tomorrow. Let's encourage people to experience what fundamentally remains as a team game by encouraging people to play it the way it was originally intended. There isn't so much new content that we need to get that new toon ready to face it. So let's get back to basics. -
honoroitisfantastic whats your most pressing issue?
Scarlet Shocker replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
Don't be specific in your questions: For example instead of asking a question about AR, make that question about power sets. In fact 7 of the top 8 questions are regarding powers so either make a poll about powers that is relevant to powers and another about other stuff or simply have one category. And also keep them in some kind of order. These have clearly been imagineered in a massive stream of consciousless brain fart. There's no rhyme nor reason to them simply what came to the OPs mind when he happened to try and think of things. So the entire poll is chaotic and doesn't lead to coherence in performance and answers. Notice that the Poll starts with a 1. Where is the 2? If I were to bother to compose a poll like this I would probably go along the lines of Powers (primary) Powers (secondary) Powers (Pool/APP/PPP) Archetypes Story Costume Creator Rewards & Drops PVP Other That at least would give a vaguely coherent range of data that represents visually what is on most peoples' minds. (I'd actually argue that even 3 powers questions is too many, but I can see some value in hiving out the non-main powers into their own category.) -

Let's get something absolutely straight here. These... abominations to the tastebuds are not chips. Nor are they crisps. Chips and Crisps have a common ancestor in the venerated potato. These things are insane. Made from bits of deviant corn that shouldn't ever exist in any universe. They are the invention of mad people and hence they are simply known as crackers.- 73 replies

An "Other" that already contained an ambiguous opinion/suggestion. I'm not saying polls such as this are invalid, but this is poorly crafted and constructed. It could have been far more open and thus enlightening for everyone. -

How can any of this be anyone else's most pressing issue when the OP defined the parameters? Makes no sense to me. -
How do you circle that square?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
I honestly think that the OPs initial premise is borked. I don't think too much needs to be offered for "new" players that they don't have in the game already. Sure, it's not graphically as lovely as the latest blockbuster, but that isn't the point. The lore, the richness of the game play, the character creator offer a brand new player a whole range of great experiences. It's important to note that many modern games deliberately aim for a retro look, mimicking the old school days of Amigas and Ataris, of Commodore 64s and Spectrum 48s. Do we need to update it just to please new players? Is that going to benefit the game and community? I would argue that the game still stands as is, and doesn't need much tweaking to help it thrive. A new player who is worried solely by the look of the game is unlikely to be satisfied by anything other than the latest photorealistic gameplay (but was quite happy with less realistic games previously) so we gain almost nothing but may cause grave pains generally. If it ain't broke, as the saying goes. My square has perfectly rounded corners.- 73 replies
