A controversial topic: is it time to make all items free?
Demobot replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
So, when given the choice, players overwhelmingly prefer the servers with "meaningless grind"? Why wouldn't they flock to Brainstorm, regardless of its status as a test server? Are they such poor, blinkered fools that they do not realize that they can be freed from their shackles? The promised land is within sight! The eschaton has already been immanentized! Players of the city, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains! -
Definitely Dark. Soul Drain + Against All Odds + Shield Charge = many dead things.

A controversial topic: is it time to make all items free?
Demobot replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
I don't have much time with City of Heroes these days, but when I do play I tend to spend most of my time interacting with the market. In 15 minutes I can craft, convert and sell a bunch of stuff and scratch that progression itch. That way, when I do have those golden opportunities to play for a few hours at a time, influence isn't something I have to worry about. I've been a marketeer since pretty much the day Issue 9 dropped. It's probably my single favorite addition to the game. It's collaborative and competitive in really interesting and enjoyable ways. I want to keep it that way. -
It's a bug that's getting fixed in the next patch. In my experience the power is working properly.

Does he have any lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity do das, crap flappers, whistlin' bungholes, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or whistlin' kitty chasers?

This isn't an airport. No need to announce your departure.

Not really. Player numbers seem pretty steady. We saw a big spike with the licence announcement, followed by a steady drop-off, but the numbers now are a bit better than before that point. You can see for yourself here.

I remember when Hover was the slowest way to get anywhere. Standing still might have been a bit faster! Capes at level 20, auras at level 30! Seperate monorail lines! That caused some headaches. For a brief time there was a bug that caused single-target Tank attacks to have a tiny AoE. If you had enough aggro enemies would bunch up and occupy the same space. You could hit dozens of enemies with a single attack. Every now and then someone would drag some monsters from the islands in the north part of Peregrine Island down to Portal Corps (quite a lot of powerleveling was done at Portal Corps and some folks took it upon themselves to police player behavior). It wasn't too long before the devs added police drones to the plaza. Speaking of powerleveling, there was a time when there were no aggro limits and no target limits on AoEs. A good Fire Tank could herd dozens of enemies into a dumpster, drop Burn and massacre lots and lots of Warwolves. Changes were eventually made to wolves in particular to make this less viable, and then eventually aggro and target caps were implemented. Man, things were very wild west back in the day.

Homecoming Server Update (April 28th): City of Heroes' 21st Anniversary
Demobot replied to Widower's topic in Announcements
21 years! Hard to believe it's been that long! I started playing maybe a month after launch, when Issue 1 was being teased. Proud to be a part of the most passionate MMO community. Here's to 21 more years! -
What would you do if you were a DEV?! (Fun Ideas Talks)
Demobot replied to SSR's topic in General Discussion
Larger storage per salvage/enhancement rack in bases. Access to the AH in bases. -
Looks like the villain side of Khallisti Wharf.

Performance Shifter and Panacea are standard on any character I plan to invest time in. You can slot Panacea really early on too. I'll slot Gladiator's Armor and Steadfast Protection on characters with defense-based powersets (e.g., Shield Defense), but I don't bother otherwise unless I'm working on and endgame build. There are some nice ATO procs, like the Stalker and Scrapper procs, that do have a noticeable impact on how they play and I find worth the investment. Others are going to depend on the quirks of a particular powerset (Theft of Essence in Dark Armor's Dark Regeneration is mandatory). I tend not to bother with most other procs while leveling a character because I feel like you get the most bang for your buck when they're used alongside IO sets in pursuit of particular build goals. Maybe an extra bit of damage or recharge would be useful, but it's not like the game is difficult to the point where the benefit derived is necessary for leveling up.

How can Radiation heroes justify using their powers?
Demobot replied to Zombra's topic in General Discussion
Look, if that Hellion didn't want to suffer a slow, agonizing death from cancer, he shouldn't have been an accessory to minor vandalism. He made his choices. -

The only sensible solution is to ban costumes. Replace all player models with cubes of equal size. Costume contests will be replaced with Cube Compliance Inspections. Any player found not being perfectly cubical will have their access to the third dimension permanently revoked.

It's simple: Max hax.

Invincible Season 3 has begun! SPOILERS
Demobot replied to Voltor's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Holy crap. That was definitely the best episode of the season so far, maybe of the whole dang show. This season has been a little uneven up to this point, but this more than made up for any criticisms I've had. -

I turned into a monkey during a Yin TF last week. Gave the Freakshow a taste of monkey gas they will not soon forget. Personally I think De-evolution is hilarious, and I wouldn't change it. It happens rarely enough to make you forget that it's a real possibility. 60 seconds isn't that long, though it feels like an eternity if it happens in combat.

I've had this happen. Try jumping when you're in the red box. It's like the actual exit is offset vertically from the visual indicator.

Issue 8 was released toward the end of 2006, and introduced the revamped Faultline zone with its own story. The story introduced is one of my favorites, and I've played through it many times, both on the live servers and on Homecoming. But until just this week I hadn't realized something that in hindsight was blindingly obvious. [Spoilers for an 18 year old story arc ahead!] The event that destroyed Overbrook was caused by the villain PsiCurse altering time with the PsychoChronoMetron to turn Faultline from a hero into a villain. PsiCurse didn't know that Faultline was a mutant and assumed he used earthquake machines. As a result, this creates a feedback loop that results in the death of Faultline and the destruction of Overbrook. I just assumed that PsiCurse died too. But he didn't! You even fight him alongside Arbiter Sands! It's Kurse! His name didn't even change that much! Please, please, please, someone out there tell me I'm not the only one who didn't realize this. Feel free to point and laugh otherwise.
