Hey all,

 

Played for years but quit a while before it went F2P, am now returning and it's fair to say I've forgotten more than I ever knew about builds and slotting out chars.

 

Can I get some well-deserved criticism on my Earth/Earth/Fire Dom build please? This is supposed to be like a cheap-ass no-purples build hence the lack of them, and I'm fairly unfamilar with the Archetype Sets and what they offer/cost. Not even sure if a cheap build is worth it these days or if influence drops enough to go straight for purple?

 

I feel like I have enough recharge for permadom even with hasten no where near perma? I'm not sure I like those defence numbers too much and I picked Assault at the end because I had nothing else to go with. General gameplan is to lockdown with controls, let off a Fire Ball, maybe Rain if there's enough mobs and then head into melee range. 

 

I am 100% sure this is a naff build, please halp. 🙂

So, just a few things offhand. Stone Cages is one of your staples for both aoe damage and control. Take it, slot it for damage and/or procs, and spam that puppy.

 

Power up is really good. Gives you better buffs and debuffs. It will actually increase your def/res while running. It also increases the def debuff of your powers, meaning faster kill rate. Slot it for recharge and enjoy. 

 

As a Dominator, I'm not too sure you need the Fighting pool, unless you really plan to do Tanktrolling. Lock 'em and Rock 'em, I always say. Solo, open with your controls to minimize the alpha damage. In teams, let the hardbodies take the alpha then lock em and rock em. That way, you should not need the extra def/res from Tough/Weave. You might could drop the Fighting pool and pick up Stone Cages, Power Up, and something else, maybe Tactics.

 

Other than that, looks good for a non-purple build. Seems like you do have perma-dom, and are close to perm-hasten.

I'm running a Stone/Stone/Ice Epic Dominator.

 

Taken all the primary and secondaries.

 

And four of the ice epics.  

 

Not sure about mud pots.  End heavy.  Doesn't seem to do alot?  No Hasten.  Though I'll bring that in with the rebuild.

 

Thinking about proccing on this one.

 

Anyone got any juicy ideas (procs etc.) for a stone/stone/ice build?

I'll show you my Earth/Earth/Ice build. A few thoughts:

 

Ice epic is a much better pairing, both power-wise and thematically. It gives you 2 rain powers(Sleet & Ice Storm), plus much better defensive potential.

 

Drop both Quicksand and Mudpots. Quicksand is basically worthless overall.  Mudpots requires way too much End for way too little DPS.

 

Power Boost is good overall, and doesn't take up additional slots.

 

I'm the first person to tell you that most Doms don't need to worry about defenses, but /Earth Assault is a notable exception to that. /Earth has only 2 ranged attacks(Fissure's range is too short to qualify,it's a melee power for all intents), and all of it's good moves are melee. You will be right in the middle of everything, fighting as the world's squishiest Brute. That needs to be addressed.

This was mine before being deleted and reimagined as Fire/Earth. I didn't want 3 /Earth dominators so kept Dark/Earth and Fire/Earth. Anyway, can't complain, permadom, softcapped to S/L/Nrg, scary dmg output and tons of control. I'd prolly wouldn't delete him now but hey ho. Hope it gives you ideas:

@Nightmarer How do you like Earth / Earth compared to Fire / Earth? 

What do you find are the benefits of one vs the other? 

I'm working on a Dominator currently and they were a couple of the powerset options on my list.

Earth Control is an old favourite of mine, I love the hard control it offers however, Fire / Earth Dominator's dmg output is scary although hard to manage before Ageless. What Fire/Earth loses in control, gains in dmg so it depends. For teams I'd say Fire/Earth and for soloing Earth/Earth. Since I don't want to derail the thread further, I'll pm you my Fire/Earth build in case you want some ideas or a starting point

I've had a notion of trying out an Earth/Earth dom, so I put this together on Brainstorm and, uh, boy howdy this build is a beast.  Solidly tanky and mobs die relatively fast.  I think I've found my next project, just need a good concept to go with it.
