Endgame Human Warshade AKA The Coffin Queen

SableShrike

Recommended Posts

Back on Live I used to spend days worth of time in Mids mucking about with various builds.  I've settled onto running a Warshade as my main, and for the hell of it have set up the most tricked out Human form build I could in Mids.  I've seen a number of other Human Form builds, and figured I'd take a stab at it.  This is no better than a lot of the others I've seen, it just is my personal choice and does some things differently (Essence Drain, baby).

This will probably take you months to get built unless you farm in the top 10% of influence earners.  You have been warned!

This is also something that will not shine until the upper levels (ideally you want to respec at 50 with most of your IOs already in your possession).  Exemplaring you will be better off using a Tri Form build on your Second Build option.

What it does:

1) Perma-Hasten without Alpha: pick whatever Incarnate powers you want.  I personally would recommend Intuitive Radial Paragon for Alpha, and Clarion for mez.  Don't go with a Recharge Alpha; it messes with your proc IOs.

2) 33.8% Defense to Melee: things near you simply die, and you are now also very hard to hit.  Some Ranged Defense helps as well, but you want to be in things faces for Inky Aspect to work with Gravitic Emanation.

3) Perma-Eclipse: you have capped Resistance to everything with 5 mobs, and all but Psi/Toxic with 3 mobs.

4) 3 Extracted Essences possible at all times: this is why you are a Coffin Queen/King.  You kill with impunity and the faster you kill the more pets you spawn.

5) Essence Drain: with the recent proc changes this power is now amazing in both Dwarf and Human forms.  Each damage proc more than doubles the base damage and is almost guaranteed to fire if you keep Recharge enhancements off the power.  Your Global Recharge from sets is all you need for it.  Slotted as I have it with three Touch of the Nictus, one other damage proc, and two Theft of Essence makes the power do High damage and refill your Endurance.  All while you heal yourself to boot!

6) No Knockback:  everything besides your Extracted Essences' Shadow Blast does knockDOWN.  No more vitriol from teams.

7) Complete Stealth: by level 14 you have complete Stealth just by turning on Super Jump and Shadow Cloak.

Toggle up (I'd keep Cloak off to save Endurance), open with Gravitic to stun all but Bosses/AVs, close to Melee to now stun the Bosses with Inky, Mire > Eclipse, Quasar, Extract Fluffy, kill strays with your high damage singletarget and Orbiting Death.  Don Thug Lyfe shades.

I liked this build, so many 45% def builds are so barren for aoes that you wonder how they destroy spawns quickly, I am a triformer myself and like to splatter things all over the park but I have been looking for a human form to work from, and this was good. I can trade defense for offense, I like doing damage. Your build barely dips out to powerpools in comparison to many, just like my triforms, it's good to see this Warshade and not something I might just say, well you could of rolled a sentinel for that. Great build to work from imo.

Some players make their characters all about them, if it doesn't help them, they don't want it, their build advice to you will ofcourse be about making your character the best thing that helps them too if they ever team with you, because it's always about them.

The above should still work fine, yeah!  The way I built it you don't need a +recharge Alpha Incarnate.  This lets you take Intuition Radial Paragon for Hold, Range, Damage, and Slow Movement buffs from your Alpha Slot.

Recently I've been playing a little more chaotically with Shades, and started a variant on the above.  Main changes are it drops Orbiting Death, Essence Drain, and Combat Jumping for Dark Detonation, Hasten, and Hover.  This allows you to play at range or in melee, depending on circumstance.  Note that this has less Defense than the first build, but Hover is misleading in the survival it offers.  The vast majority of enemies do the most damage in Melee range, meaning your ability to stay out of it drastically reduces your incoming damage.  Same reason why Nova form works.

With that being said, your pets, Mire, and Quasar still require you to swoop into Melee range.  As such, I maxed Hover for speed and kept Inky Aspect to really mez up anything nearby.  Gravitic and Inky stack to stun even Bosses.  This still has good Defense with Support Hybrid running (one small Luck to softcap Melee).

The basic playstyle is to Gravitic then hammer stuff at range, dive in, Mire and Quasar, Extract Essence, and move on.  The one Melee attack I kept, Gravity Well, is setup to guarantee best proc chance and does massive damage to a Lt. or Boss.  It's a guaranteed corpse if you use Well on a troublesome Lt. or Minion, meaning you can immediately use Extract Essence.

Also worked in the Power Transfer +Heal proc; it's really damn good to slot one in Stamina (more than one apparently give diminishing returns on proc chance).

P.S.  Forgot to mention Lore pet choice.  Seers work very well with this build, as they cast Fortitude on you.  With Seer Radial Superior, you get the invincible version of your buff pet for 5 minutes.  Very handy versus hard spawns.

I'll post this here to give folks an idea of leveling a Tri-Form alongside the above.  I've slotted in the "best" enhancements that I'm working toward, but this works just fine mixing and matching uncommon and basic IOs.  Hell, it even works okay with Single Origins though I'd recommend you at least spring for the Knockback to Knockdown IOs.  Teams will like you a lot more.

Please keep in mind this is just what I prefer to play; I kept things simple and only focused sets on +recharge and damage procs.  There are some crazier builds out there, but they sacrifice slots and add a fair bit of micromanaging to play well.  Squid nukes, Dwarf tanks, and Human plays like a Dominator; the main thing was I didn't want to take any "wasted" power outside of a few mules (Leadership and Concealment).  No Hasten in this, as I hate having to switch Forms midfight to trigger it.

Every attack is slotted to let each Form do solid damage, and Human has stackable mez to lock all Bosses or lower permanently.  What this means is you can play whatever you feel like or the team requires.  AoE light?  Go Nova.  Tank light?  Go Dwarf (it moves fast with set bonuses and Swift).  Human is for balanced teams, where you can use your siphons, mez, and nuke with impunity on pretty much every spawn.  Regardless of Form, you should be able to keep two Essences up and raining death.

How you dealing with stuns and such..
I created this build and I am running Incarnate mish on 3/8 setting as a test run and I am getting stunned and slept left and right..  I do eat a Break Free insp before the start of a fight but getting crushed.

As this is my first warshade ever figure I would ask.

For a build like this that isn't proc heavy and likes its rech/stun/heal, Spiritual Alpha all the way with Clarion Destiny for mez protection. The other incarnate slots don't really matter all that much.

This build can not survive without Clarion..

It is very weak vs status affects..

I created  this build and with any build I always test drive them through the Alpha Incarnate missions to see where it stands.. As I mentioned above this build cannot do 3/8.

The original build had combat jumping and super leap. Any reason you left off Acrobatics for a little mez protection?

I don't expect you getting a response. I don't think the player is posting and/or playing anymore.

As mentioned above I copied the build to spec and was getting crushed very bad with mez.  I mean it completely shut the character down..  Mez = Death.

I am not big at all on Warshades or Peacebringers, but it definitely needs it.

Been distracted, sorry!

Reason I didn’t take Acro is that Mag2 Hold doesn’t really protect you.  Most anything with a real Hold attack blows through Acro in one shot.  And KB protection you can get from a single Blessing of the Zephyr IO.  Not to mention, Acro is another toggle draining your End.

As plainguy says, mez is death when soloing.  You can easily get Clarion Core up to perma, though.  The other way is to mez things first with your Stuns and Hold, but if you miss or there are too many targets for Gravitic to cover you’re rolling the dice.

Maybe turn down spawn size to between 4-6 and see if your mez better preempts their mez.

Human Warshades are never going to be AFK murder machines on max diffs simply due to how they are designed as an AT.  You are in some ways gimping your solo potential to have a bigger bag of tricks in Human.  There’s always a tradeoff when you build Kheldians.

You definitely can build a Dwarf “only” that can solo max diff.  This is slow though, as you rely on Dwarf Mire for AoE if you’re weathering mez.

Just gotta manage expectations, I guess.  Kheldians are widely regarded as lower tier in terms of OP Archetypes.  You CAN do crazy stuff with them still, but they’re never going to be a TW/Bio Brute.

Doing crazy stuff with a Kheld takes a lot of work, using specific Forms, and a deep knowledge of timing and enemies.  Only you guys can say if this type of play is fun to you.  It’s okay if it’s not!  It can be nice to just hop on a faceroll Tanker or Brute sometimes.

Long as you’re having fun there’s no need to keep up with the Jones’.

Re. mez, defensive amplifier is 4 points to all mez. If anything gets past my defense it has to stack past that too. It happens periodically but I also take the hybrid melee that has mez protection and it works as a break free. Allowed me to take agility on both my human only khelds.

Awesome advice, Vee!

I always forget about the Amplifier.  I’m gonna start up a new Human shade just to try levelling one from 1-50 with this.

Orbiting Death shouldn’t get detoggled and your shields won’t suppress.  Should be very potent.

P.S.  Probably also want to make sure you have a base beacon to Pocket D as well as the Pocket D teleporter.  The P2W in Pocket is the only one you can access while on a TF or Ouroboros arc.

Been thinking up some tricks for an updated build after reading a lot this weekend.  At the fiancee’s parents’ so I’m away from my rig.  It burrrrrnnnsss!!!

Namely tweaking shields to plug Psi and not focusing on Defense this time to avoid mez.  As pointed out above, we can rock Mag4 from just Defensive Amplifiers.  Coupled with strategic use of Shade controls that should be enough.

Gonna take it through arcs to 50 with zero farming, and then I’ll toss something up here.

Again, you really need to build the Shade you personally like.  You may not like the attack chain I build for, say, so I encourage folks to mess about.

It’s more important to understand why a build does something than to simply copy my slotting.  That’s the only way you can find weird mechanics and combos you personally love.  (Like slowing the crap out of Minotaurs and Cyclops to easily kite them to death).

Still got a lot of free time due to COVID, but I’ll sign off on this thread for now.  I’ll let y’all know what I come up with in a fair while!

We've seen those Mire AoE ownership WS's from live.  WSs matured like fine wine back then.  So an all out attack build with some defensive resolve makes sense to me whilst rockin' some proccin'.

Defensive Amplifiers?  Eh?

Power?  Io Set?  Translate? 🙂

The build looks interesting for human form.

I had a tri form on live.  Got to L44.  Key human powers.  Some Nova for blast.  Dwarf for double stack Mire.

With Fluff pets.

How is the progress going with your new human build?

Hallo vrienden!

I've moved to the Netherlands and am in the process of learning Dutch.  Sometimes I think in mixed languages...

Anywho!  I mucked about with Shades in the time since and I've made an "updated" build that I'll link below.

Regarding the new Teleportation changes:

1) Teleport Other is free, so that's a straight up buff to Recall Friend.

2) Starless Step is really good.  I have it on a mouse bind and use it midfight all the time.  Very handy for getting past the melee crush to a better spot.  Or in a door that's blocked by meatheads and pets.  A faster Shadow Step for less endurance and no immobilize on completion.

3) Shadow Slip is alright.  It can be fun, but I still don't consider it "must have".  To use it you must be in Human, whereas the Form that benefits most from it is Dwarf.  In Human you want to be surgically using Gravitic Emanation to prevent mez from hitting you, not randomly pulling every mob into melee around you unmezzed.  The Teleportation Pool version seems like it could be really fun on a dedicated melee AT.  Kheldians need a slight touch of mez protection in Human to use it well.  Not every person can afford to constantly buy Defensive Amplifiers, so I can't recommend it as a "must have" given you need to routinely spend millions on a temporary buff to even use it effectively.  Shadow Slip is kinda gimmicky on Shades, though it does better when teamed with a dedicated melee AT.

The build I'm running in light of the recent Teleportation changes is as follows.  I kinda leaned into the "unique" Warshade powers, as I find the necromancer playstyle fun.

Gravimetric Snare is surprisingly useful at low levels; the DoT is a bit too slow but the Immobilize allows you to trap multiple enemies or a single Boss at range.  Even lategame it gives you another tool beside Gravity Well to stop runners and keep them in your Inky Aspect/Orbiting Debt.  It also does half it's damage as Smashing, which is handy versus stuff that heavily resists Negative.  I moved Orbiting to where I usually take Essence Drain, but you can go with Drain over Gravimetric if you prefer.  Both are very similar damage and only differ in the utility they bring.

Did wind up sticking with a Melee Defense build.  I tried it both ways, and the Melee Defense just let me do more crazy stuff.  It also prevented my hated detoggling more often, as a lot of enemy melee attacks have a Stun component that can mess with Orbiting Death.  This setup has you one small Luck shy of softcap to anything in Melee range.  Even without Inspirations, enemies will miss more than they hit.

I still don't think this is enough to solo +4/x8 against every mob type.  You really need dedicated mez protection to do that reliably, and Human Shades just don't have it in the current game (outside of the Defensive Amplifiers that cost millions at level 50).  That said, I DO often run against +3/x4 or so.  Once you're reliably hitting the entire spawn with Gravitic Emanation, it's just a matter of cleanup.
